Hebreos 6

1 Por lo tanto, dejemos a un lado las enseñanzas elementales acerca de Cristo, y avancemos hacia la perfección. No volvamos a cuestiones básicas, tales como el arrepentirnos de las acciones que nos llevan a la muerte, o la fe en Dios,2 o las enseñanzas acerca del bautismo, o la imposición de manos, o la resurrección de los muertos y el juicio eterno.3 Todo esto lo haremos, si Dios nos lo permite.4 No es posible que los que alguna vez fueron iluminados y saborearon el don celestial, y tuvieron parte en el Espíritu Santo,5 y saborearon además la buena palabra de Dios y los poderes del mundo venidero,6 pero volvieron a caer, vuelvan también a ser renovados para arrepentimiento. ¡Eso sería volver a crucificar al Hijo de Dios para ellos mismos, y exponerlo a la vergüenza pública!7 Cuando la tierra absorbe la lluvia que le cae con frecuencia, y produce plantas útiles para quienes la cultivan, recibe la bendición de Dios;8 pero cuando produce espinos y abrojos, no vale nada; poco le falta para ser maldecida,t y acaba por ser quemada.

9 Queridos hermanos, aunque hablamos así, con respecto a ustedes estamos convencidos de cosas mejores, que tienen que ver con la salvación.10 Porque Dios es justo, y no olvidará el trabajo de ustedes y el amor que han mostrado hacia él mediante el servicio a los santos, como hasta ahora lo hacen.11 Pero deseamos que cada uno de ustedes muestre el mismo entusiasmo hasta el fin, para la plena realización de su esperanza12 y para que no se hagan perezosos, sino que sigan el ejemplo de quienes por medio de la fe y la paciencia heredan las promesas.

13 Cuando Dios hizo la promesa a Abrahán, juró por sí mismo, porque no había nadie superior a él por quien jurar,14 y dijo: «Ciertamente te bendeciré con abundancia y multiplicaré tu descendencia».t15 Y Abrahán esperó con paciencia, y recibió lo que Dios le había prometido.16 Cuando alguien jura, lo hace por alguien superior a sí mismo. De esa manera confirma lo que ha dicho y pone fin a toda discusión.17 Por eso Dios, queriendo demostrar claramente a los herederos de la promesa que sus propósitos no cambian, les hizo un juramento,18 para que por estas dos cosas que no cambian, y en las que Dios no puede mentir, tengamos un sólido consuelo los que buscamos refugio y nos aferramos a la esperanza que se nos ha propuesto.19 Esta esperanza mantiene nuestra alma firme y segura, como un ancla, y penetra hasta detrás del velo,t20 donde Jesús, nuestro precursor, entró por nosotros y llegó a ser sumo sacerdote para siempre, según el orden de Melquisedec.t

HEBREWS 6

1 We must try to become mature and start thinking about more than just the basic things we were taught about Christ. We shouldn't need to keep talking about why we ought to turn from deeds that bring death and why we ought to have faith in God. 2 And we shouldn't need to keep teaching about baptismst or about the laying on of handst or about people being raised from death and the future judgment.

3 Let's grow up, if God is willing.

4-6 But what about people who turn away after they have already seen the light and have received the gift from heaven and have shared in the Holy Spirit? What about those who turn away after they have received the good message of God and the powers of the future world? There is no way to bring them back. What they are doing is the same as nailing the Son of God to a cross and insulting him in public!
7 A field is useful to farmers, if there is enough rain to make good crops grow. In fact, God will bless such a field.

8 t But land that produces only thornbushes is worthless. It is likely to fall under God's curse, and in the end it will be set on fire.
9 My friends, we are talking this way. But we are sure that you are doing those really good things people do when they are being saved. 10 God is always fair. He will remember how you helped his people in the past and how you are still helping them. You belong to God, and he won't forget the love you have shown his people. 11 We wish each of you would always be eager to show how strong and lasting your hope really is.

12 Then you would never be lazy. You would be following the example of those who had faith and were patient until God kept his promise to them.

God's Promise Is Sure

18 God cannot tell lies! And so his promises and vows are two things that can never be changed.
We have run to God for safety. Now his promises should greatly encourage us to take hold of the hope that is right in front of us. 19 t This hope is like a firm and steady anchor for our souls. In fact, hope reaches behind the curtaint and into the most holy place. 20 t Jesus has gone there ahead of us, and he is our high priest forever, just like Melchizedek.t
