Isaia 19

1 Oracolo sull’Egitto. Ecco l’Eterno, che cavalcava portato da una nuvola leggera, e viene in Egitto; gl’idoli d’Egitto tremano dinanzi a lui, e all’Egitto si strugge, dentro, il cuore.2 Io inciterò Egiziani contro Egiziani, combatteranno il fratello contro il fratello, il vicino contro il vicino, città contro città, regno contro regno.3 Lo spirito che anima l’Egitto svanirà, io frustrerò i suoi disegni; e quelli consulteranno gl’idoli, gl’incantatori, gli evocatori di spiriti e gl’indovini.4 Io darò l’Egitto in mano d’un signore duro, e un re crudele signoreggerà su lui, dice il Signore, l’Eterno degli eserciti.5 Le acque verranno meno al mare, il fiume diverrà secco, arido;6 i rivi diventeranno infetti, i canali d’Egitto scemeranno e resteranno asciutti, le canne ed i giunchi deperiranno.7 Le praterie sul Nilo, lungo le rive del Nilo, tutti i seminati presso il fiume seccheranno, diverranno brulli, spariranno.8 I pescatori gemeranno, tutti quelli che gettan l’amo nel Nilo saranno in lutto, e quei che stendono le reti sull’acque languiranno.9 Quei che lavorano il lino pettinato e i tessitori di cotone saranno confusi.10 Le colonne del paese saranno infrante, tutti quelli che vivon d’un salario avran l’anima rattristata.

11 I principi di Tsoan non son che degli stolti; i più savi tra i consiglieri di Faraone dànno dei consigli insensati. Come potete mai dire a Faraone: "Io sono figliuolo de’ savi, figliuolo degli antichi re?"12 E dove sono i tuoi savi? Te lo annunziano essi e lo riconoscano essi stessi quel che l’Eterno degli eserciti ha deciso contro l’Egitto!13 I principi di Tsoan sono diventati stolti, i principi di Nof s’ingannano; han traviato l’Egitto, essi, la pietra angolare delle sue tribù.14 L’Eterno ha messo in loro uno spirito di vertigine, ed essi fan barcollare l’Egitto in ogni sua impresa, come l’ubriaco, che barcolla vomitando.15 E nulla gioverà all’Egitto di quel che potran fare il capo o la coda, la palma o il giunco.16 In quel giorno, l’Egitto sarà come le donne: tremerà, sarà spaventato, vedendo la mano dell’Eterno degli eserciti che s’agita, minacciosa contro di lui.17 E il paese di Giuda sarà il terrore dell’Egitto; tutte le volte che gli se ne farà menzione, l’Egitto sarà spaventato a motivo della decisione presa contro di lui dall’Eterno degli eserciti.

18 In quel giorno, vi saranno nel paese d’Egitto cinque città che parleranno la lingua di Canaan, e che giureranno per l’Eterno degli eserciti; una d’esse si chiamerà "la città del sole".19 In quel giorno, in mezzo al paese d’Egitto, vi sarà un altare eretto all’Eterno; e presso la frontiera, una colonna consacrata all’Eterno.20 Sarà per l’Eterno degli eserciti un segno e una testimonianza nel paese d’Egitto; quand’essi grideranno all’Eterno a motivo dei loro oppressori, egli manderà loro un salvatore e un difensore a liberarli.21 E l’Eterno si farà conoscere all’Egitto e gli Egiziani, in quel giorno, conosceranno l’Eterno, gli offriranno un culto con sacrifizi ed offerte, faranno voti all’Eterno e li adempiranno.22 Così l’Eterno colpirà gli Egiziani: li colpirà e li guarirà, ed essi si convertiranno all’Eterno, che s’arrenderà alle loro supplicazioni e li guarirà.

23 In quel giorno, vi sarà una strada dall’Egitto in Assiria; gli Assiri andranno in Egitto, e gli Egiziani in Assiria, e gli Egiziani serviranno l’Eterno con gli Assiri.24 In quel giorno, Israele sarà terzo con l’Egitto e con l’Assiria, e tutti e tre saranno una benedizione in mezzo alla terra.25 L’Eterno degli eserciti li benedirà, dicendo: "Benedetti siano l’Egitto, mio popolo, l’Assiria, opera delle mie mani, e Israele, mia eredità!"

Isaiah 19

The Lord Will Judge Egypt

1 Here is a message about Egypt:
Look, the Lord rides on a swift-moving cloud
and approaches Egypt.
The idols of Egypt tremble before him;
the Egyptians lose their courage.t

2 “I will provoke civil strife in Egypt,t
brothers will fight with each other,
as will neighbors,
cities, and kingdoms.t

3 The Egyptians will panic,t
and I will confuse their strategy.t
They will seek guidance from the idols and from the spirits of the dead,
from the pits used to conjure up underworld spirits, and from the magicians.t

4 I will hand Egypt over to a harsh master;
a powerful king will rule over them,”
says the sovereign master,t the Lord who commands armies.

5 The water of the sea will be dried up,
and the river will dry up and be empty.t

6 The canalst will stink;t
the streams of Egypt will trickle and then dry up;
the bulrushes and reeds will decay,

7 along with the plants by the mouth of the river.t
All the cultivated land near the river
will turn to dust and be blown away.t

8 The fishermen will mourn and lament,
all those who cast a fishhook into the river,
and those who spread out a net on the water’s surface will grieve.t

9 Those who make clothes from combed flax will be embarrassed;
those who weave will turn pale.t

10 Those who make clotht will be demoralized;t
all the hired workers will be depressed.t

11 The officials of Zoan are nothing but fools;t
Pharaoh’s wise advisers give stupid advice.
How dare you say to Pharaoh,
“I am one of the sages,
one well-versed in the writings of the ancient kings?”t

12 But where, oh where, are your wise men?t
Let them tell you, let them find out
what the Lord who commands armies has planned for Egypt.

13 The officials of Zoan are fools,
the officials of Memphist are misled;
the rulerst of her tribes lead Egypt astray.

14 The Lord has made them undiscerning;t
they lead Egypt astray in all she does,
so that she is like a drunk sliding around in his own vomit.t

15 Egypt will not be able to do a thing,
head or tail, shoots and stalk.t
16 At that timet the Egyptianst will be like women.s They will tremble and fear because the Lord who commands armies brandishes his fist against them.t

17 The land of Judah will humiliate Egypt. Everyone who hears about Judah will be afraid because of what the Lord who commands armies is planning to do to them.t
18 At that time five citiess in the land of Egypt will speak the language of Canaan and swear allegiance to the Lord who commands armies. One will be called the City of the Sun.s19 At that time there will be an altar for the Lord in the middle of the land of Egypt, as well as a sacred pillart dedicated to the Lord at its border.20 Itt will become a visual reminder in the land of Egypt oft the Lord who commands armies. When they cry out to the Lord because of oppressors, he will send them a deliverer and defendert who will rescue them.21 The Lord will reveal himself to the Egyptians, and theyt will acknowledge the Lord’s authorityt at that time.t They will present sacrifices and offerings; they will make vows to the Lord and fulfill them.

22 The Lord will strike Egypt, striking and then healing them. They will turn to the Lord and he will listen to their prayerst and heal them.
23 At that time there will be a highway from Egypt to Assyria. The Assyrians will visit Egypt, and the Egyptians will visit Assyria. The Egyptians and Assyrians will worship together.t24 At that time Israel will be the third member of the group, along with Egypt and Assyria, and will be a recipient of blessingt in the earth.t

25 The Lord who commands armies will pronounce a blessing over the earth, saying,t “Blessed be my people, Egypt, and the work of my hands, Assyria, and my special possession,t Israel!”
