Isaia 39

1 In quel tempo, Merodac-Baladan figliuolo di Baladan, re di Babilonia, mandò una lettera e un dono ad Ezechia, perché aveva udito ch’egli era stato infermo ed era guarito.2 Ed Ezechia se ne rallegrò, e mostrò ai messi la casa ove teneva i suoi oggetti di valore, l’argento, l’oro, gli aromi, gli oli preziosi, tutto il suo arsenale, e tutto quello che si trovava nei suoi tesori; non ci fu nulla, nella sua casa e in tutti i suoi domini, che Ezechia non mostrasse loro.

3 Allora il profeta Isaia venne al re Ezechia, e gli disse: "Che hanno detto quegli uomini? e donde son venuti a te?" Ezechia rispose: "Son venuti a me da un paese lontano, da Babilonia".4 E Isaia gli disse: "Che hanno veduto in casa tua?" Ezechia rispose: "Hanno veduto tutto quello ch’è in casa mia; non v’è nulla ne’ miei tesori ch’io non abbia mostrato loro".

5 Allora Isaia disse ad Ezechia: "Ascolta la parola dell’Eterno degli eserciti:6 Ecco, verranno dei giorni in cui tutto quello ch’è in casa tua e quello che i tuoi padri hanno accumulato fino a questo giorno sarà trasportato a Babilonia; e non né rimarrà nulla, dice l’Eterno.7 E vi saranno de’ tuoi figliuoli usciti da te e da te generati, che saranno presi e diventeranno degli eunuchi nel palazzo del re di Babilonia".8 Ed Ezechia disse a Isaia: "La parola dell’Eterno che tu hai pronunziata, è buona". Poi aggiunse: "Perché vi sarà almeno pace e sicurezza durante la mia vita".

Messengers from Babylon Visit Hezekiah

1 At that time Merodach-Baladan son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a gift to Hezekiah, for he heard that Hezekiah had been ill and had recovered.2 Hezekiah welcomedt them and showed them his storehouse with its silver, gold, spices, and high-quality olive oil, as well as his whole armory and everything in his treasuries. Hezekiah showed them everything in his palace and in his whole kingdom.t3 Isaiah the prophet visited King Hezekiah and asked him, “What did these men say? Where do they come from?” Hezekiah replied, “They come from the distant land of Babylon.”4 Isaiaht asked, “What have they seen in your palace?” Hezekiah replied, “They have seen everything in my palace. I showed them everything in my treasuries.”5 Isaiah said to Hezekiah, “Listen to the word of the Lord who commands armies:6 ‘Look, a time is coming when everything in your palace and the things your ancestorst have accumulated to this day will be carried away to Babylon; nothing will be left,’ says the Lord.7 ‘Some of your very own descendants whom you fathert will be taken away and will be made eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.’”

8 Hezekiah said to Isaiah, “The Lord’s word which you have announced is appropriate.”t Then he thought,t “Fort there will be peace and stability during my lifetime.”
