第39章

1 そのころ、バラダンの子であるバビロンの王メロダク・バラダンは手紙と贈り物を持たせて使節をヒゼキヤにつかわした。これはヒゼキヤが病気であったが、直ったことを聞いたからである。2 ヒゼキヤは彼らを喜び迎えて、宝物の蔵、金銀、香料、貴重な油および武器倉、ならびにその倉庫にあるすべての物を彼らに見せた。家にある物も、国にある物も、ヒゼキヤが彼らに見せない物は一つもなかった。3 時に預言者イザヤはヒゼキヤ王のもとに来て言った、「あの人々は何を言いましたか。どこから来たのですか」。ヒゼキヤは言った、「彼らは遠い国から、すなわちバビロンから来たのです」。4 イザヤは言った、「彼らは、あなたの家で何を見ましたか」。ヒゼキヤは答えて言った、「彼らは、わたしの家にある物を皆見ました。倉庫のうちには、彼らに見せなかった物は一つもありません」。5 そこでイザヤはヒゼキヤに言った、「万軍の主の言葉を聞きなさい。6 見よ、すべてあなたの家にある物およびあなたの先祖たちが今日までに積みたくわえた物がバビロンに運び去られる日が来る。何も残るものはない、と主が言われます。7 また、あなたの身から出るあなたの子たちも連れ去られて、バビロンの王の宮殿において宦官となるでしょう」。8 ヒゼキヤはイザヤに言った、「あなたが言われた主の言葉は結構です」。彼は「少なくとも自分が世にある間は太平と安全があるだろう」と思ったからである。

Messengers from Babylon Visit Hezekiah

1 At that time Merodach-Baladan son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a gift to Hezekiah, for he heard that Hezekiah had been ill and had recovered.2 Hezekiah welcomedt them and showed them his storehouse with its silver, gold, spices, and high-quality olive oil, as well as his whole armory and everything in his treasuries. Hezekiah showed them everything in his palace and in his whole kingdom.t3 Isaiah the prophet visited King Hezekiah and asked him, “What did these men say? Where do they come from?” Hezekiah replied, “They come from the distant land of Babylon.”4 Isaiaht asked, “What have they seen in your palace?” Hezekiah replied, “They have seen everything in my palace. I showed them everything in my treasuries.”5 Isaiah said to Hezekiah, “Listen to the word of the Lord who commands armies:6 ‘Look, a time is coming when everything in your palace and the things your ancestorst have accumulated to this day will be carried away to Babylon; nothing will be left,’ says the Lord.7 ‘Some of your very own descendants whom you fathert will be taken away and will be made eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.’”

8 Hezekiah said to Isaiah, “The Lord’s word which you have announced is appropriate.”t Then he thought,t “Fort there will be peace and stability during my lifetime.”
