Jesaja 39

Sendebudene fra Babels konge

1 På den tiden sendte Merodak Baladan, Baladans sønn, kongen i Babel, brev og gaver til Hiskia, da han hørte at han hadde vært syk og var blitt frisk igjen. s2 Hiskia gledet seg over dem og lot dem få se sitt skattkammer, sølvet og gullet og krydderiene og den kostbare oljen og hele sitt våpenhus og alt det som fantes i skattkamrene hans. Det var ikke den ting Hiskia ikke lot dem få se i sitt hus og i hele sitt rike.

Jesajas profeti om Jerusalems skatter

3 Da kom profeten Jesaja til kong Hiskia og sa til ham: Hva sa disse mennene, og hvorfra kommer de til deg? Hiskia svarte: De er kommet til meg fra et land langt borte, fra Babel. 4 Og han sa: Hva fikk de se i ditt hus? Hiskia svarte: Alt det som er i mitt hus, har de fått se. Det var ikke den ting jeg ikke lot dem få se i mine skattkamre.

5 Da sa Jesaja til Hiskia: Hør Herrens, hærskarenes Guds ord: 6 Se, de dager kommer da alt det som er i ditt hus, og alle de skatter dine fedre har samlet helt til denne dag, skal føres bort til Babel. Det skal ikke bli noen ting tilbake, sier Herren. s7 Og blant dine sønner som skal stamme fra deg, som du skal være far til, skal det være noen som blir tatt til hoffmenn i palasset hos kongen i Babel. 8 Da sa Hiskia til Jesaja: Det Herrens ord som du har talt, er godt. Så sa han: Det skal jo være fred og trygghet i mine dager. s

Messengers from Babylon Visit Hezekiah

1 At that time Merodach-Baladan son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a gift to Hezekiah, for he heard that Hezekiah had been ill and had recovered.2 Hezekiah welcomedt them and showed them his storehouse with its silver, gold, spices, and high-quality olive oil, as well as his whole armory and everything in his treasuries. Hezekiah showed them everything in his palace and in his whole kingdom.t3 Isaiah the prophet visited King Hezekiah and asked him, “What did these men say? Where do they come from?” Hezekiah replied, “They come from the distant land of Babylon.”4 Isaiaht asked, “What have they seen in your palace?” Hezekiah replied, “They have seen everything in my palace. I showed them everything in my treasuries.”5 Isaiah said to Hezekiah, “Listen to the word of the Lord who commands armies:6 ‘Look, a time is coming when everything in your palace and the things your ancestorst have accumulated to this day will be carried away to Babylon; nothing will be left,’ says the Lord.7 ‘Some of your very own descendants whom you fathert will be taken away and will be made eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.’”

8 Hezekiah said to Isaiah, “The Lord’s word which you have announced is appropriate.”t Then he thought,t “Fort there will be peace and stability during my lifetime.”
