Jesaja 40

1 Tröstet, tröstet mein Volk! spricht euer Gott.2 Redet zum Herzen Jerusalems, und rufet ihr zu, daß ihre Mühsal vollendet, daß ihre Schuld abgetragen ist, daß sie von der Hand Jehovas Zwiefältiges empfangen hat für alle ihre Sünden.3 Stimme eines Rufenden: In der Wüste bahnet den Weg Jehovas; ebnet in der Steppe eine Straße für unseren Gott!4 Jedes Tal soll erhöht und jeder Berg und Hügel erniedrigt werden; und das Höckerichte soll zur Ebene werden, und das Hügelige zur Niederung!5 Und die Herrlichkeit Jehovas wird sich offenbaren, und alles Fleisch miteinander wird sie sehen; denn der Mund Jehovas hat geredet.6 Stimme eines Sprechenden: Rufe! Und er spricht: Was soll ich rufen? "Alles Fleisch ist Gras, und alle seine Anmut wie die Blume des Feldes.7 Das Gras ist verdorrt, die Blume ist abgefallen; denn der Hauch Jehovas hat sie angeweht. Fürwahr, das Volk ist Gras.8 Das Gras ist verdorrt, die Blume ist abgefallen; aber das Wort unseres Gottes besteht in Ewigkeit."9 Auf einen hohen Berg steige hinauf, Zion, du Verkündigerin froher Botschaft; erhebe mit Macht deine Stimme, Jerusalem, du Verkündigerin froher Botschaft! Erhebe sie, fürchte dich nicht; sprich zu den Städten Judas:10 Siehe da, euer Gott! Siehe, der Herr, Jehova, kommt mit Kraft, und sein Arm übt Herrschaft für ihn; siehe, sein Lohn ist bei ihm, und seine Vergeltung geht vor ihm her.11 Er wird seine Herde weiden wie ein Hirt, die Lämmer wird er in seinen Arm nehmen und in seinem Busen tragen, die Säugenden wird er sanft leiten.12 Wer hat die Wasser gemessen mit seiner hohlen Hand und die Himmel abgegrenzt mit der Spanne, und hat den Staub der Erde in ein Maß gefaßt, und die Berge mit der Waage gewogen und die Hügel mit Waagschalen?13 Wer hat den Geist Jehovas gelenkt, und wer, als sein Ratgeber, ihn unterwiesen?14 Mit wem beriet er sich, daß er ihm Verstand gegeben und ihn belehrt hätte über den Pfad des Rechts, und ihn Erkenntnis gelehrt und ihm den Weg der Einsicht kundgemacht hätte?15 Siehe, Nationen sind geachtet wie ein Tropfen am Eimer und wie ein Sandkorn auf der Waagschale. Siehe, Inseln sind wie ein Stäubchen, das emporschwebt.16 Und der Libanon reicht nicht hin zum Brennholz, und sein Wild reicht nicht hin zum Brandopfer.17 Alle Nationen sind wie nichts vor ihm, und werden von ihm geachtet wie Nichtigkeit und Leere. -18 Und wem wollt ihr Gott vergleichen? Und was für ein Gleichnis wollt ihr ihm an die Seite stellen?19 Hat der Künstler das Bild gegossen, so überzieht es der Schmelzer mit Gold und schweißt silberne Ketten daran.20 Wer arm ist, so daß er nicht viel opfern kann, der wählt ein Holz, das nicht fault; er sucht sich einen geschickten Künstler, um ein Bild herzustellen, das nicht wanke. -21 Wisset ihr es nicht? Höret ihr es nicht? Ist es euch nicht von Anbeginn verkündet worden? Habt ihr nicht Einsicht erlangt in die Grundlegung der Erde?22 Er ist es, der da thront über dem Kreise der Erde, und ihre Bewohner sind wie Heuschrecken; der die Himmel ausgespannt hat wie einen Flor und sie ausgebreitet wie ein Zelt zum Wohnen;23 der die Fürsten zu nichts macht, die Richter der Erde in Nichtigkeit verwandelt.24 Kaum sind sie gepflanzt, kaum sind sie gesät, kaum hat ihr Stock Wurzeln in der Erde getrieben: da bläst er sie schon an, und sie verdorren, und ein Sturmwind rafft sie wie Stoppeln hinweg.25 Wem denn wollt ihr mich vergleichen, dem ich gleich wäre? spricht der Heilige.26 Hebet zur Höhe eure Augen empor und sehet: Wer hat diese da geschaffen? Er, der ihr Heer herausführt nach der Zahl, ruft sie alle mit Namen: Wegen der Größe seiner Macht und der Stärke seiner Kraft bleibt keines aus.27 Warum sprichst du, Jakob, und redest du, Israel: Mein Weg ist verborgen vor Jehova, und mein Recht entgeht meinem Gott?28 Weißt du es nicht? Oder hast du es nicht gehört? Ein ewiger Gott ist Jehova, der Schöpfer der Enden der Erde; er ermüdet nicht und ermattet nicht, unergründlich ist sein Verstand.29 Er gibt dem Müden Kraft, und dem Unvermögenden reicht er Stärke dar in Fülle.30 Und Jünglinge ermüden und ermatten, und junge Männer fallen hin;31 aber die auf Jehova harren, gewinnen neue Kraft: sie heben die Schwingen empor wie die Adler; sie laufen und ermatten nicht, sie gehen und ermüden nicht.

Isaiah 40

The Lord Returns to Jerusalem

1 “Comfort, comfort my people,”
says yourt God.

2 “Speak kindly tot Jerusalem,s and tell her
that her time of warfare is over,t
that her punishment is completed.t
For the Lord has made her pay doublet for all her sins.”

3 A voice cries out,
“In the wilderness clear a way for the Lord;
construct in the desert a road for our God.

4 Every valley must be elevated,
and every mountain and hill leveled.
The rough terrain will become a level plain,
the rugged landscape a wide valley.

5 The splendort of the Lord will be revealed,
and all peoplet will see it at the same time.
Fort the Lord has decreed it.”t

6 A voice says, “Cry out!”
Another asks,t “What should I cry out?”
The first voice responds:t “All people are like grass,t
and all their promisest are like the flowers in the field.

7 The grass dries up,
the flowers wither,
when the wind sent by the Lordt blows on them.
Surely humanityt is like grass.

8 The grass dries up,
the flowers wither,
but the decree of our God is forever reliable.”t

9 Go up on a high mountain, O herald Zion!
Shout out loudly, O herald Jerusalem!t
Shout, don’t be afraid!
Say to the towns of Judah,
“Here is your God!”

10 Look, the sovereign Lord comes as a victorious warrior;t
his military power establishes his rule.t
Look, his reward is with him;
his prize goes before him.t

11 Like a shepherd he tends his flock;
he gathers up the lambs with his arm;
he carries them close to his heart;t
he leads the ewes along.

The Lord is Incomparable

12 Who has measured out the waterst in the hollow of his hand,
or carefullyt measured the sky,t
or carefully weighedt the soil of the earth,
or weighed the mountains in a balance,
or the hills on scales?s

13 Who comprehendst the mindt of the Lord,
or gives him instruction as his counselor?t

14 From whom does he receive directions?t
Whot teaches him the correct way to do things,t
or imparts knowledge to him,
or instructs him in skillful design?ts

15 Look, the nations are like a drop in a bucket;
they are regarded as dust on the scales.
He liftst the coastlandst as if they were dust.

16 Not even Lebanon could supply enough firewood for a sacrifice;t
its wild animals would not provide enough burnt offerings.s

17 All the nations are insignificant before him;
they are regarded as absolutely nothing.t

18 To whom can you compare God?
To what image can you liken him?

19 A craftsman castst an idol;
a metalsmith overlays it with gold
and forges silver chains for it.

20 To make a contribution one selects wood that will not rot;t
he then seeks a skilled craftsman
to maket an idol that will not fall over.

21 Do you not know?
Do you not hear?
Has it not been told to you since the very beginning?
Have you not understood from the time the earth’s foundations were made?

22 He is the one who sits on the earth’s horizon;t
its inhabitants are like grasshoppers before him.t
He is the one who stretches out the sky like a thin curtain,t
and spreads it outt like a pitched tent.t

23 He is the one who reduces rulers to nothing;
he makes the earth’s leaders insignificant.

24 Indeed, they are barely planted;
yes, they are barely sown;
yes, they barely take root in the earth,
and then he blows on them, causing them to dry up,
and the wind carries them away like straw.

25 “To whom can you compare me? Whom do I resemble?”
says the Holy One.s

26 Look up at the sky!t
Who created all these heavenly lights?t
He is the one who leads out their ranks;t
he calls them all by name.
Because of his absolute power and awesome strength,
not one of them is missing.

27 Why do you say, Jacob,
Why do you say, Israel,
“The Lord is not aware of what is happening to me,t
My God is not concerned with my vindication”?t

28 Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
The Lord is an eternal God,
the creator of the whole earth.t
He does not get tired or weary;
there is no limit to his wisdom.s

29 He gives strength to those who are tired;
to the ones who lack power, he gives renewed energy.

30 Even youths get tired and weary;
even strong young men clumsily stumble.t

31 But those who wait for the Lord’s helpt find renewed strength;
they rise up as if they had eagles’ wings,t
they run without growing weary,
they walk without getting tired.
