Isaías 42
1 ȃste es mi siervo, a quien sostengo,
mi escogido, en quien me deleito; sobre él he puesto mi Espíritu, y llevará *justicia a las naciones. 2 No clamará, ni gritará,
ni alzará su voz por las calles. 3 No acabará de romper la caña quebrada,
ni apagará la mecha que apenas arde. Con fidelidad hará justicia; 4 no vacilará ni se desanimará
hasta implantar la justicia en la tierra. Las costas lejanas esperan su enseñanza.» 5 Así dice Dios, el Señor,
el que creó y desplegó los cielos; el que expandió la tierra y todo lo que ella produce; el que da aliento al pueblo que la habita, y vida a los que en ella se mueven: 6 «Yo, el Señor, te he llamado en justicia;
te he tomado de la mano. Yo te formé, yo te constituí como *pacto para el pueblo, como luz para las naciones, 7 para abrir los ojos de los ciegos,
para librar de la cárcel a los presos, y del calabozo a los que habitan en tinieblas. 8 »Yo soy el Señor; ¡ése es mi *nombre!
No entrego a otros mi gloria, ni mi alabanza a los ídolos. 9 Las cosas pasadas se han cumplido,
y ahora anuncio cosas nuevas; ¡las anuncio antes que sucedan!» 10 Canten al Señor un cántico nuevo,
ustedes, que descienden al mar, y todo lo que hay en él; canten su alabanza desde los confines de la tierra, ustedes, costas lejanas y sus habitantes. 11 Que alcen la voz el desierto y sus ciudades,
y los poblados donde Cedar habita. Que canten de alegría los habitantes de Selá, y griten desde las cimas de las montañas. 12 Den gloria al Señor
y proclamen su alabanza en las costas lejanas. 13 El Señor marchará como guerrero;
como hombre de guerra despertará su celo. Con gritos y alaridos se lanzará al combate, y *triunfará sobre sus enemigos. 14 «Por mucho tiempo he guardado silencio,
he estado callado y me he contenido. Pero ahora voy a gritar como parturienta, voy a resollar y jadear al mismo tiempo. 15 Devastaré montañas y cerros,
y secaré toda su vegetación; convertiré los ríos en tierra seca, y secaré los estanques; 16 conduciré a los ciegos por caminos desconocidos,
los guiaré por senderos inexplorados; ante ellos convertiré en luz las tinieblas, y allanaré los lugares escabrosos. Esto haré, y no los abandonaré. 17 Pero retrocederán llenos de vergüenza
los que confían en los ídolos, los que dicen a las imágenes: “Ustedes son nuestros dioses.”
Israel ciego y sordo
18 »Sordos, ¡escuchen!
Ciegos, ¡fíjense bien! 19 ¿Quién es más ciego que mi siervo,
y más sordo que mi mensajero? ¿Quién es más ciego que mi enviado, y más ciego que el siervo del Señor?
20 Tú has visto muchas cosas,
pero no las has captado; tienes abiertos los oídos, pero no oyes nada.» 21 Le agradó al Señor,
por amor a su justicia, hacer su *ley grande y gloriosa. 22 Pero éste es un pueblo saqueado y despojado,
todos atrapados en cuevas o encerrados en cárceles. Son saqueados, y nadie los libra; son despojados, y nadie reclama. 23 ¿Quién de ustedes escuchará esto
y prestará atención en el futuro? 24 ¿Quién entregó a Jacob para el despojo,
a Israel para el saqueo? ¿No es acaso el Señor
a quien su pueblo ha ofendido? No siguió sus *caminos ni obedeció su ley. 25 Por eso el Señor derramó sobre él
su ardiente ira y el furor de la guerra. Lo envolvió en llamas, pero no comprendió; lo consumió, pero no lo tomó en serio.
ISAIAH 42
The [Lord]'s Servant
1 t t Here is my servant!
I have made him strong.
He is my chosen one;
I am pleased with him.
I have given him my Spirit,
and he will bring justice
to the nations.
2 He won't shout or yell
or call out in the streets.
3 He won't break off a bent reed
or put out a dying flame,
but he will make sure
that justice is done.
4 He won't quit or give up
until he brings justice
everywhere on earth,
and people in foreign nations
long for his teaching.
5 t I am the [Lord] God.
I created the heavens
like an open tent above.
I made the earth and everything
that grows on it.
I am the source of life
for all who live on this earth,
so listen to what I say.
6 t I chose you to bring justice,
and I am here at your side.
I selected you and sent yout
to bring light
and my promise of hope
to the nations.
7 You will give sight
to the blind;
you will set prisoners free
from dark dungeons.
8 My name is the [Lord]!
I won't let idols or humans
share my glory and praise.
9 Everything has happened
just as I said it would;
now I will announce
what will happen next.Sing Praises to the [Lord]
10 Tell the whole world to sing
a new song to the [Lord]!
Tell those who sail the ocean
and those who live far away
to join in the praise.
11 Tell the tribes of the desert
and everyone in the mountainst
to celebrate and sing.
12 Let them announce
his praises everywhere.
13 The [Lord] is marching out
like an angry soldier,
shouting with all his might
while attacking his enemies.The [Lord] Will Help //His People
14 For a long time, I, the [Lord],
have held my temper;
now I will cry out and groan
like a woman giving birth.
15 I will destroy the mountains
and what grows on them;
I will dry up rivers and ponds.
16 I will lead the blind on roads
they have never known;
I will guide them on paths
they have never traveled.
Their road is dark and rough,
but I will give light
to keep them from stumbling.
This is my solemn promise.
17 Everyone who worships idols
as though they were gods
will be terribly ashamed.God's People Won't Obey
18 You people are deaf and blind,
but the [Lord] commands you
to listen and to see.
19 No one is as blind or deaf
as his messenger,
his chosen servant,
20 who sees and hears so much,
but pays no attention.
21 The [Lord] always does right,
and so he wanted his Law
to be greatly praised.t
22 But his people were trapped
and imprisoned in holes
with no one to rescue them.
All they owned had been taken,
and no one was willing
to give it back.
23 Why won't his people
ever learn to listen?
24 Israel sinned and refused
to obey the [Lord]
or follow his instructions.
So the [Lord] let us be robbed
of everything we owned.
25 He was furious with us
and punished our nation
with the fires of war.
Still we paid no attention.
We didn't even care
when we were surrounded
and scorched by flames.
