Isaías 66

Juicio y esperanza

1 Así dice el Señor:
«El cielo es mi trono, y la tierra, el estrado de mis pies. ¿Qué casa me pueden construir? ¿Qué morada me pueden ofrecer? 2 Fue mi mano la que hizo todas estas cosas;
fue así como llegaron a existir —afirma el Señor—. »Yo estimo a los pobres y contritos de espíritu, a los que tiemblan ante mi palabra. 3 Pero los que sacrifican toros
son como los que matan *hombres; los que ofrecen corderos son como los que desnucan perros; los que presentan ofrendas de grano son como los que ofrecen sangre de cerdo, y los que queman ofrendas de incienso son como los que adoran ídolos. Ellos han escogido sus propios *caminos, y se deleitan en sus abominaciones. 4 Pues yo también escogeré aflicciones para ellos
y enviaré sobre ellos lo que tanto temen. Porque nadie respondió cuando llamé; cuando hablé, nadie escuchó. Más bien, hicieron lo malo ante mis ojos y optaron por lo que no me agrada.» 5 ¡Escuchen la palabra del Señor,
ustedes que tiemblan ante su palabra!: «Así dicen sus hermanos que los odian y los excluyen por causa de mi *nombre: “¡Que el Señor sea glorificado,
para que veamos la alegría de ustedes!” Pero ellos serán los avergonzados. 6 Una voz resuena desde la ciudad,
una voz surge del templo: Es la voz del Señor
que da a sus enemigos su merecido. 7 »Antes de estar con dolores de parto,
Jerusalén tuvo un hijo; antes que le llegaran los dolores, dio a luz un varón. 8 ¿Quién ha oído cosa semejante?
¿Quién ha visto jamás cosa igual? ¿Puede una nación nacer en un solo día? ¿Se da a luz un pueblo en un momento? Sin embargo, *Sión dio a luz sus hijos cuando apenas comenzaban sus dolores. 9 ¿Podría yo abrir la matriz,
y no provocar el parto? —dice el Señor—. ¿O cerraría yo el seno materno, siendo que yo hago dar a luz? —dice tu Dios—. 10 Mas alégrense con Jerusalén, y regocíjense por ella,
todos los que la aman; salten con ella de alegría, todos los que por ella se conduelen. 11 Porque ustedes serán amamantados y saciados,
y hallarán consuelo en sus pechos; beberán hasta saciarse, y se deleitarán en sus henchidos senos.» 12 Porque así dice el Señor:
«Hacia ella extenderé la *paz como un torrente, y la riqueza de las naciones como río desbordado. Ustedes serán amamantados, llevados en sus brazos, mecidos en sus rodillas. 13 Como madre que consuela a su hijo,
así yo los consolaré a ustedes; en Jerusalén serán consolados.» 14 Cuando ustedes vean esto,
se regocijará su *corazón, y su cuerpo florecerá como la hierba; el Señor dará a conocer
su poder entre sus siervos, y su furor entre sus enemigos. 15 ¡Ya viene el Señor con fuego!
¡Sus carros de combate son como un torbellino! Descargará su enojo con furor, y su reprensión con llamas de fuego. 16 Con fuego y con espada
juzgará el Señor a todo *mortal.
¡Muchos morirán a manos del Señor!
17 «Juntos perecerán los que se *santifican y se *purifican para entrar en los jardines, siguiendo a uno que va al frente,s y los que comen carne de cerdo, ratas y otras cosas abominables —afirma el Señor—.
18 »Yo, por causa de sus acciones y sus ideas, estoy a punto de reunir a gente de toda nación y lengua; vendrán y verán mi gloria.
19 »Les daré una señal, y a algunos de sus sobrevivientes los enviaré a las naciones: a Tarsis, Pul, Lidia (famosa por sus arqueros), Tubal y Grecia, y a las costas lejanas que no han oído hablar de mi fama ni han visto mi gloria. Ellos anunciarán mi gloria entre las naciones. 20 Y a todos los hermanos que ustedes tienen entre las naciones los traerán a mi monte santo en Jerusalén, como una ofrenda al Señor; los traerán en caballos, en carros de combate y en literas, y en mulas y camellos —dice el Señor—. Los traerán como traen los israelitas, en recipientes limpios, sus ofrendas de grano al templo del Señor. 21 Y de ellos escogeré también a algunos, para que sean sacerdotes y levitas —dice el Señor—.
22 »Porque así como perdurarán en mi presencia el cielo nuevo y la tierra nueva que yo haré, así también perdurarán el nombre y los descendientes de ustedes —afirma el Señor—. 23 Sucederá que de una luna nueva a otra, y de un *sábado a otro, toda la humanidad vendrá a postrarse ante mí —dice el Señor—. 24 Entonces saldrán y contemplarán los cadáveres de los que se rebelaron contra mí.
»Porque no morirá el gusano que los devora, ni se apagará el fuego que los consume: ¡repulsivos serán a toda la humanidad!»

Isaiah 66

1 This is what the Lord says:
“The heavens are my throne
and the earth is my footstool.
Where then is the house you will build for me?
Where is the place where I will rest?

2 My hand made them;t
that is how they came to be,”t says the Lord.
I show special favort to the humble and contrite,
who respect what I have to say.t

3 The one who slaughters a bull also strikes down a man;t
the one who sacrifices a lamb also breaks a dog’s neck;ts
the one who presents an offering includes pig’s blood with it;t
the one who offers incense also praises an idol.t
They have decided to behave this way;t
they enjoy these disgusting practices.t

4 So I will choose severe punishmentt for them;
I will bring on them what they dread,
because I called, and no one responded,
I spoke and they did not listen.
They did evil before me;t
they chose to do what displeases me.”

5 Hear the word of the Lord,
you who respect what he has to say!t
Your countrymen,t who hate you
and exclude you, supposedly for the sake of my name,
say, “May the Lord be glorified,
then we will witness your joy.”t
But they will be put to shame.

6 The sound of battle comes from the city;
the sound comes from the temple!
It is the sound of the Lord paying back his enemies.

7 Before she goes into labor, she gives birth!
Before her contractions begin, she delivers a boy!

8 Who has ever heard of such a thing?
Who has ever seen this?
Can a countryt be brought forth in one day?
Can a nation be born in a single moment?
Yet as soon as Zion goes into labor she gives birth to sons!

9 “Do I bring a baby to the birth opening and then not deliver it?”
asks the Lord.
“Or do I bring a baby to the point of delivery and then hold it back?”
asks your God.s

10 Be happy for Jerusalem
and rejoice with her, all you who love her!
Share in her great joy,
all you who have mourned over her!

11 Fort you will nurse from her satisfying breasts and be nourished;t
you will feed with joy from her milk-filled breasts.ts

12 For this is what the Lord says:
“Look, I am ready to extend to her prosperity that will flow like a river,
the riches of nations will flow into her like a stream that floods its banks.t
You will nurse from her breastt and be carried at her side;
you will play on her knees.

13 As a mother consoles a child,t
so I will console you,
and you will be consoled over Jerusalem.”

14 When you see this, you will be happy,t
and you will be revived.t
The Lord will reveal his power to his servants
and his anger to his enemies.t

15 For look, the Lord comes with fire,
his chariots come like a windstorm,s
to reveal his raging anger,
his battle cry, and his flaming arrows.t

16 For the Lord judges all humanityt
with fire and his sword;
the Lord will kill many.t
17 “As for those who consecrate and ritually purify themselves so they can follow their leader and worship in the sacred orchards,t those who eat the flesh of pigs and other disgusting creatures, like micet – they will all be destroyed together,”t says the Lord.18 “I hate their deeds and thoughts! So I am comings to gather all the nations and ethnic groups;t they will come and witness my splendor.19 I will perform a mighty act among themt and then send some of those who remain to the nations – to Tarshish, Pul,t Luds (known for its archerst), Tubal, Javan,s and to the distant coastlandst that have not heard about me or seen my splendor. They will tell the nations of my splendor.20 They will bring back all your countryment from all the nations as an offering to the Lord. They will bring themt on horses, in chariots, in wagons, on mules, and on camelst to my holy hill Jerusalem,” says the Lord, “just as the Israelites bring offerings to the Lord’s temple in ritually pure containers.21 And I will choose some of them as priests and Levites,” says the Lord.22 “For just as the new heavens and the new earth I am about to make will remain standing before me,” says the Lord, “so your descendants and your name will remain.23 From one montht to the next and from one Sabbath to the next, all peoplet will come to worship me,”t says the Lord.

24 “They will go out and observe the corpses of those who rebelled against me, for the maggots that eat them will not die,t and the fire that consumes them will not die out.t All people will find the sight abhorrent.”ts
