Saludo

1 Santiago, siervo de Dios y del Señor Jesucristo, saluda a las doce tribus de Israel esparcidas por todo el mundo.

Fortaleza en las pruebas

2 Hermanos míos, ustedes deben tenerse por muy dichosos cuando se vean sometidos a pruebas de toda clase.3 Pues ya saben que cuando su fe es puesta a prueba, ustedes aprenden a soportar con fortaleza el sufrimiento.4 Pero procuren que esa fortaleza los lleve a la perfección, a la madurez plena, sin que les falte nada.5 Si a alguno de ustedes le falta sabiduría, pídasela a Dios, y él se la dará; pues Dios da a todos sin limitación y sin hacer reproche alguno.6 Pero tiene que pedir con fe, sin dudar nada; porque el que duda es como una ola del mar, que el viento lleva de un lado a otro.7 Quien es así, no crea que va a recibir nada del Señor,8 porque hoy piensa una cosa y mañana otra, y no es constante en su conducta.9 El hermano de condición humilde debe sentirse orgulloso de ser enaltecido por Dios;10 y el rico de ser humillado. Porque el rico es como la flor de la hierba, que no permanece.11 Cuando el sol sale y calienta con fuerza, la hierba se seca, su flor se cae y su belleza se pierde. Así también, el rico desaparecerá en medio de sus negocios.12 Dichoso el hombre que soporta la prueba con fortaleza, porque al salir aprobado recibirá como premio la vida, que es la corona que Dios ha prometido a los que lo aman.13 Cuando alguno se sienta tentado a hacer lo malo, no piense que es tentado por Dios, porque Dios ni siente la tentación de hacer lo malo, ni tienta a nadie para que lo haga.14 Al contrario, uno es tentado por sus propios malos deseos, que lo atraen y lo seducen.15 De estos malos deseos nace el pecado; y del pecado, cuando llega a su completo desarrollo, nace la muerte.16 Queridos hermanos míos, no se engañen:17 todo lo bueno y perfecto que se nos da, viene de arriba, de Dios, que creó los astros del cielo. Dios es siempre el mismo: en él no hay variaciones ni oscurecimientos.18 Él, porque así lo quiso, nos dio vida mediante el mensaje de la verdad, para que seamos los primeros frutos de su creación.

Necesidad de poner en práctica el mensaje

19 Recuerden esto, queridos hermanos: todos ustedes deben estar listos para escuchar; en cambio deben ser lentos para hablar y para enojarse.20 Porque el hombre enojado no hace lo que es justo ante Dios.21 Así pues, despójense ustedes de toda impureza y de la maldad que tanto abunda, y acepten humildemente el mensaje que ha sido sembrado; pues ese mensaje tiene poder para salvarlos.22 Pero no basta con oír el mensaje; hay que ponerlo en práctica, pues de lo contrario se estarían engañando ustedes mismos.23 El que solamente oye el mensaje, y no lo practica, es como el hombre que se mira la cara en un espejo:24 se ve a sí mismo, pero en cuanto da la vuelta se olvida de cómo es.25 Pero el que no olvida lo que oye, sino que se fija atentamente en la ley perfecta de la libertad, y permanece firme cumpliendo lo que ella manda, será feliz en lo que hace.26 Si alguno cree ser religioso, pero no sabe poner freno a su lengua, se engaña a sí mismo y su religión no sirve de nada.27 La religión pura y sin mancha delante de Dios el Padre es ésta: ayudar a los huérfanos y a las viudas en sus aflicciones, y no mancharse con la maldad del mundo.

James 1

1 James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are of the Dispersion, greeting.2 Count it all joy, my brethren, when ye fall into manifold temptations;3 Knowing that the proving of your faith worketh patience.4 And let patience have its perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, lacking in nothing.5 But if any of you lacketh wisdom, let him ask of God, who giveth to all liberally and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.6 But let him ask in faith, nothing doubting: for he that doubteth is like the surge of the sea driven by the wind and tossed.7 For let not that man think that he shall receive anything of the Lord;8 a doubleminded man, unstable in all his ways.9 But let the brother of low degree glory in his high estate:10 and the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.11 For the sun ariseth with the scorching wind, and withereth the grass: and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his goings.12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation; for when he hath been approved, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord promised to them that love him.13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God; for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempteth no man:14 but each man is tempted, when he is drawn away by his own lust, and enticed.15 Then the lust, when it hath conceived, beareth sin: and the sin, when it is fullgrown, bringeth forth death.16 Be not deceived, my beloved brethren.17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation, neither shadow that is cast by turning.18 Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.19 Ye know this, my beloved brethren. But let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:20 for the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.21 Wherefore putting away all filthiness and overflowing of wickedness, receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deluding your own selves.23 For if any one is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a mirror:24 for he beholdeth himself, and goeth away, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.25 But he that looketh into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and so continueth, being not a hearer that forgetteth but a doer that worketh, this man shall be blessed in his doing.26 If any man thinketh himself to be religious, while he bridleth not his tongue but deceiveth his heart, this man’s religion is vain.27 Pure religion and undefiled before our God and Father is this, to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.
