1 Yo, Santiago,t siervo de Dios y del Señor Jesucristo, saludo a las doce tribus de Israel esparcidas por todo el mundo.tFortaleza en las pruebas
2 Hermanos míos, debéis teneros por muy dichosos cuando os veáis sometidos a cualquier clase de pruebas.t 3 Pues ya sabéis que cuando vuestra fet es puesta a prueba, aprendéis a soportar con fortaleza el sufrimiento.t
4 Pero procurad que esa fortaleza os lleve a la perfección, a la madurez plena, sin que os falte nada.
5 Si a alguno de vosotros le falta sabiduría, pídala a Dios y él se la dará; pues Dios da a todos, sin limitaciones y sin hacer reproches.t 6 Pero tiene que pedir con fe,t sin dudar nada,t porque el que duda es como las olas del mar, que el viento lleva de un lado a otro.t 7 Quien es así no crea que va a recibir nada del Señor,
8 porque el que hoy piensa una cosa y mañana otrat no es constante en su conducta.
9 El hermano de condición humilde debe sentirse orgulloso si Dios le enaltece,t 10 y el rico debe sentirse orgulloso si Dios le humilla. Porque el rico es como la flor de la hierba, que no permanece.t
11 Cuando el sol sale y calienta con fuerza, la hierba se seca, su flor se cae y su belleza se pierde.t Así también, el rico desaparecerát en medio de sus negocios.t
12 Dichosot el hombre que soporta la pruebat con fortaleza, porque después de la prueba recibirá como premio la vida, que es la coronat prometida por Dios a los que le aman. 13 Cuando alguno se sienta tentado a hacer el mal, no piense que es Dios quien le tienta, porque Dios no siente la tentación de hacer el mal ni tienta a nadie para que lo haga.t 14 Al contrario, cada uno es tentado por sus propios malos deseos, que le atraen y le seducen. 15 De estos malos deseos nace el pecado; y del pecado, cuando llega a su completo desarrollo, nace la muerte. 16 Queridos hermanos míos, no os engañéis: 17 todo lo bueno y perfecto que se nos da, procede de arriba, de Dios, que creó los astros del cielo. Dios es siempre el mismo: en él no hay cambios ni sombras.t
18 Él, porque así lo quiso, nos dio vida mediante el mensaje de la verdad,t para que seamos los primeros frutost de su creación.La puesta en práctica del mensaje
19 Recordad esto, queridos hermanos: todos debéis estar dispuestos a escuchar; en cambio, debéis ser lentos para hablar y para enojaros,t 20 porque el hombre enojado no hace lo que agrada a Dios. 21 Así pues, despojaost de todo lo impurot y de la maldad que tanto abunda, y aceptad humildemente el mensaje sembrado en vuestro corazón. Ese mensaje tiene poder para salvaros. 22 Pero no basta con oir el mensaje; hay que ponerlo en práctica,t pues de lo contrario os estaríais engañando a vosotros mismos. 23 El que solamente oye el mensaje, pero no lo practica, es como el hombre que se mira la cara en un espejo: 24 se ve a sí mismo, pero en cuanto se da la vuelta se olvida de cómo es.
25 En cambio, el que no olvida lo que oye, sino que considera atentamente la ley perfecta, que es la ley que nos trae libertad,t y permanece firme cumpliendo lo que ella dispone, será feliz en todo lo que haga.
26 Si alguno se cree religioso, pero no sabe poner freno a su lengua,t se engaña a sí mismo y su religión no sirve para nada. 27 La religión pura y sin mancha delante del Dios y Padre es esta: ayudar a los huérfanos y a las viudas en sus aflicciones, y no mancharse con la maldad de este mundo.t

Joy in Trials
2 My brothers and sisters,t consider it nothing but joyt when you fall into all sorts of trials,3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces endurance.4 And let endurance have its perfect effect, so that you will be perfect and complete, not deficient in anything.5 But if anyone is deficient in wisdom, he should ask God, who gives to all generously and without reprimand, and it will be given to him.6 But he must ask in faith without doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed around by the wind.7 For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord,
8 since he is a double-minded individual,ts unstable in all his ways.
9 Now the believert of humble meanst should take pridet in his high position.t10 But the rich person’s pride should be in his humiliation, because he will pass away like a wildflower in the meadow.t11 For the sun rises with its heat and dries up the meadow; the petal of the flower falls off and its beauty is lost forever.t So also the rich person in the midst of his pursuits will wither away.12 Happy is the onet who endures testing, because when he has proven to be genuine, he will receive the crown of life that Gods promised to those who love him.13 Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted by evil,t and he himself tempts no one.14 But each one is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desires.15 Then when desire conceives, it gives birth to sin, and when sin is full grown, it gives birth to death.16 Do not be led astray, my dear brothers and sisters.t17 All generous giving and every perfect giftt is from above, coming downt from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or the slightest hint of change.t
18 By his sovereign plan he gave us birtht through the message of truth, that we would be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.
Living Out the Message
19 Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters!t Let every person be quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to anger.20 For humant anger does not accomplish God’s righteousness.s21 So put away all filth and evil excess and humblyt welcome the message implanted within you, which is able to save your souls.22 But be sure you live out the message and do not merely listen to it and so deceive yourselves.23 For if someone merely listens to the message and does not live it out, he is like someonet who gazes at his own facet in a mirror.24 For he gazes at himself and then goes out and immediately forgetst what sort of person he was.25 But the one who peers into the perfect law of liberty and fixes his attention there,t and does not become a forgetful listener but one who lives it out – het will be blessed in what he does.t26 If someone thinks he is religious yet does not bridle his tongue, and so deceives his heart, his religion is futile.
27 Pure and undefiled religion beforet God the Fathert is this: to care for orphans and widows in their misfortune and to keep oneself unstained by the world.
