Saludo

1 Yo, Santiago, estoy al servicio de Dios y del Señor Jesucristo, y les envío un saludo a los cristianos que viven en todo el mundo.

Confianza en Dios

2 Hermanos en Cristo, ustedes deben sentirse muy felices cuando pasen por toda clase de dificultades.3 Así, cuando su confianza en Dios sea puesta a prueba, ustedes aprenderán a soportar con más fuerza las dificultades.

4 Por lo tanto, deben resistir la prueba hasta el final, para que sean mejores y puedan obedecer lo que se les ordene.
5 Si alguno de ustedes no tiene sabiduría, pídasela a Dios. Él se la da a todos en abundancia, sin echarles nada en cara.6 Eso sí, debe pedirla con la seguridad de que Dios se la dará. Porque los que dudan son como las olas del mar, que el viento lleva de un lado a otro.

7-8 La gente que no es confiable ni capaz de tomar buenas decisiones no recibirá nada del Señor.

Los pobres y los ricos

9 Si alguno de ustedes es pobre, debe sentirse orgulloso de lo mucho que vale ante Dios.10 Si alguno es rico, debe sentirse feliz cuando Dios lo humille, pues las riquezas duran muy poco; son como las flores del campo.

11 Cuando hace mucho calor, las plantas se secan; entonces sus flores se marchitan y pierden su belleza. Lo mismo pasa con el rico: ni él ni sus riquezas durarán.

Las tentaciones

12 Al que soporta las dificultades, Dios lo bendice y, cuando las supera, le da el premio y el honor más grande que puede recibir: la vida eterna, que ha prometido a quienes lo aman.
13 Cuando ustedes sean tentados a hacer lo malo, no le echen la culpa a Dios, porque él no puede ser tentado, ni tienta a nadie a hacer lo malo.14 Al contrario, cuando somos tentados, son nuestros propios deseos los que nos arrastran y dominan.

15 Los malos deseos nos llevan a pecar; y cuando vivimos sólo para hacer lo malo, lo único que nos espera es la muerte eterna.
16 Mis queridos hermanos, no sean tontos ni se engañen a ustedes mismos.17 Dios nunca cambia. Fue Dios quien creó todas las estrellas del cielo, y es quien nos da todo lo bueno y todo lo perfecto.

18 Además, quiso que fuéramos sus hijos. Por eso, por medio de la buena noticia de salvación nos dio una vida nueva.

Obediencia al mensaje de Dios

19 Mis queridos hermanos, pongan atención a esto que les voy a decir: todos deben estar siempre dispuestos a escuchar a los demás, pero no dispuestos a enojarse y hablar mucho.20 Porque la gente violenta no puede hacer lo que Dios quiere.

21 Por eso, dejen de hacer lo malo, pues ya hay mucha maldad en el mundo. Hacer lo malo es como andar vestido con ropa sucia. Más bien, reciban con humildad el mensaje que Dios les ha dado. Ese mensaje tiene poder para salvarlos.
22-24 ¡Obedezcan el mensaje de Dios! Si lo escuchan, pero no lo obedecen, se engañan a ustedes mismos y les pasará lo mismo que a quien se mira en un espejo: tan pronto como se va, se olvida de cómo era.

25 Por el contrario, si ustedes ponen toda su atención en la palabra de Dios, y la obedecen siempre, serán felices en todo lo que hagan. Porque la palabra de Dios es perfecta y los libera del pecado.
26 Si alguien se cree muy santo y no cuida sus palabras, se engaña a sí mismo y de nada le sirve tanta religiosidad.

27 Creer en Dios el Padre es agradarlo y hacer el bien, ayudar a las viudas y a los huérfanos cuando sufren, y no dejarse vencer por la maldad del mundo.

James 1

1 James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are of the Dispersion, greeting.2 Count it all joy, my brethren, when ye fall into manifold temptations;3 Knowing that the proving of your faith worketh patience.4 And let patience have its perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, lacking in nothing.5 But if any of you lacketh wisdom, let him ask of God, who giveth to all liberally and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.6 But let him ask in faith, nothing doubting: for he that doubteth is like the surge of the sea driven by the wind and tossed.7 For let not that man think that he shall receive anything of the Lord;8 a doubleminded man, unstable in all his ways.9 But let the brother of low degree glory in his high estate:10 and the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.11 For the sun ariseth with the scorching wind, and withereth the grass: and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his goings.12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation; for when he hath been approved, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord promised to them that love him.13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God; for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempteth no man:14 but each man is tempted, when he is drawn away by his own lust, and enticed.15 Then the lust, when it hath conceived, beareth sin: and the sin, when it is fullgrown, bringeth forth death.16 Be not deceived, my beloved brethren.17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation, neither shadow that is cast by turning.18 Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.19 Ye know this, my beloved brethren. But let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:20 for the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.21 Wherefore putting away all filthiness and overflowing of wickedness, receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deluding your own selves.23 For if any one is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a mirror:24 for he beholdeth himself, and goeth away, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.25 But he that looketh into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and so continueth, being not a hearer that forgetteth but a doer that worketh, this man shall be blessed in his doing.26 If any man thinketh himself to be religious, while he bridleth not his tongue but deceiveth his heart, this man’s religion is vain.27 Pure religion and undefiled before our God and Father is this, to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.
