Carta de

1 Estimados hermanos del pueblo de Diost que está disperso por el mundo:
Un cordial saludo de Santiago, siervo de Dios y del Señor Jesucristo.

Fe y sabiduría

2 Hermanos míos, alégrense cuando tengan que enfrentar diversas dificultades.3 Ustedes ya saben que así se pone a prueba su fe, y eso los hará más pacientes.

4 Ahora bien, la paciencia debe alcanzar la meta de hacerlos completamente maduros y mantenerlos sin defecto.
5 Si a alguno de ustedes le falta sabiduría, pídasela a Dios, y él se la dará. Dios es generoso y nos da todo con agrado.6 Pero debe pedirle a Dios con fe, sin dudar nada. El que duda es como una ola del mar que el viento se lleva de un lado a otro.7 No sabe lo que quiere, por lo tanto no debe esperar nada del Señor

8 pues el que duda es inestable en todo lo que hace.

Riquezas verdaderas

9 El hermano de condición humilde no se avergüence de ser pobre, porque Dios lo ha puesto en un lugar de honor.10 El hermano rico no se avergüence cuando Dios lo humille, porque el rico desaparecerá como la flor de la hierba.

11 Cuando sale el sol hace calor y se seca la hierba; la flor se cae y ahí termina su hermoso aspecto. Así pasa con los ricos, en un momento los vemos ocupados en sus negocios y, de pronto, mueren.

Dios no tienta a nadie

12 Afortunadot el que mantiene la fe cuando es tentado, porque recibirá el premio de la vida eterna que Dios ha prometido a los que lo aman.13 Cuando alguien tenga una tentación, no diga que es tentado por Dios, pues a Dios no lo tienta la maldad ni tampoco él tienta a nadie.14 Uno es tentado cuando se deja llevar por un mal deseo que lo atrae y lo seduce.

15 Luego, el deseo malo da a luz el pecado, y el pecado, una vez que ha crecido, conduce a la muerte.
16 No se engañen, mis estimados hermanos.17 Todo lo bueno que hemos recibido, todo don perfecto que viene de arriba es de Dios, del Padre creador de los astros del cielo, en quien nunca hay cambio ni sombra.18 Dios, por su libre decisión, nos dio nueva vida por medio del mensaje de la verdad para que nosotros fuéramos lo mejor que se le ofrece a Dios de la creación entera.t

Oír y obedecer

19 Recuerden esto, estimados hermanos: estén más dispuestos a escuchar que a hablar. No se enojen fácilmente.20 El que vive enojado no puede vivir como Dios manda.

21 Por eso, dejen toda esa mala conducta y todo el mal que tanto los rodean, y acepten con humildad el mensaje que Dios ha puesto en cada uno de ustedes. Ese mensaje tiene el poder de salvarlos.
22 Pero no es suficiente con sólo oír el mensaje de Dios. Hay que obedecerlo. Si sólo lo oyen, sin hacer lo que dice, se están engañando a sí mismos.23 El que oye el mensaje de Dios sin obedecer lo que dice es como el que se mira en un espejo.24 Se mira en el espejo, se va y pronto olvida lo mal que se veía.

25 Por el contrario, el que se fija bien en la ley perfecta, la que libera a la gente, y la pone en práctica en lugar de ser un oyente olvidadizo, será afortunado en lo que hace.
26 Si alguien se cree religioso pero no controla sus palabras, se engaña a sí mismo y su religión no vale nada.

27 La religión pura y sin contaminación que Dios sí acepta, es esta: ayudar a los huérfanos y a las viudas en sus dificultades y no dejarse influenciar por la maldad del mundo.

James 1

Testing Your Faith

1 James, a bond-servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ,
To the twelve tribes who are dispersed abroad: Greetings.

2 Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials,3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance.4 And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

5 But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.6 But he must ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind.7 For that man ought not to expect that he will receive anything from the Lord,8  being a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

9 But the brother of humble circumstances is to glory in his high position;10 and the rich man is to glory in his humiliation, because like flowering grass he will pass away.11 For the sun rises with a scorching wind and withers the grass; and its flower falls off and the beauty of its appearance is destroyed; so too the rich man in the midst of his pursuits will fade away.

12 Blessed is a man who perseveres under trial; for once he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.13 Let no one say when he is tempted, "I am being tempted by God"; for God cannot be tempted by evil, and He Himself does not tempt anyone.14 But each one is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by his own lust.15 Then when lust has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and when sin is accomplished, it brings forth death.16 Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren.17 Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.18 In the exercise of His will He brought us forth by the word of truth, so that we would be a kind of first fruits among His creatures.

19 t This you know, my beloved brethren. But everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger;20 for the anger of man does not achieve the righteousness of God.21 Therefore, putting aside all filthiness and all that remains of wickedness, in humility receive the word implanted, which is able to save your souls.22 But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves.23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror;24 for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was.25 But one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man will be blessed in what he does.

26 If anyone thinks himself to be religious, and yet does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this man's religion is worthless.27 Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.
