¡No tengan favoritos!

1 Hermanos míos, ustedes han confiado en nuestro poderoso Señor Jesucristo, así que no deben tratar a unas personas mejor que a otras.2 Imagínense que un rico, vestido con ropa muy fina y con un anillo de oro, entra en donde ustedes se reúnen, y que al mismo tiempo entra un pobre, vestido con ropa muy gastada.3 Si ustedes atienden mejor al rico y le dicen: «Ven, siéntate en el mejor lugar», pero al pobre le dicen: «Quédate allí de pie», o «Siéntate en el suelo»,

4 serán como los malos jueces, que favorecen a unos más que a otros.
5 Escúchenme bien, hermanos queridos: Dios eligió a la gente pobre de este mundo para que la confianza en Dios sea su verdadera riqueza, y para que reciban el reino que él ha prometido a los que lo aman.6 ¿Cómo se atreven ustedes a maltratar y despreciar a los pobres? ¿Acaso no son los ricos quienes los maltratan a ustedes y los meten en la cárcel?

7 ¿Acaso no son los ricos los que insultan a nuestro Señor?
8 Si ustedes obedecen el mandamiento más importante que Dios nos ha dado, harán muy bien. Ese mandamiento dice: «Recuerden que cada uno debe amar a su prójimo como se ama a sí mismo.»

9 Pero si ustedes les dan más importancia a unas personas, y las tratan mejor que a otras, están pecando y desobedeciendo la ley de Dios.
10 Si ustedes obedecen todas las leyes, menos una de ellas, es lo mismo que si desobedecieran todas.

11 Porque el mismo Dios que dijo: «No sean infieles en su matrimonio», también dijo: «No maten». Por eso, si tú eres fiel en el matrimonio, pero matas, eres culpable de haber desobedecido la ley de Dios.
12 En el día del juicio, Dios nos juzgará de acuerdo con la ley que nos libera del pecado. Por eso, debemos tener mucho cuidado en todo lo que hacemos y decimos.

13 Porque Dios no tendrá compasión de quienes no se compadecieron de otros. Pero los que tuvieron compasión de otros, saldrán bien del juicio.

Confianza y buenas acciones

14 Hermanos en Cristo, ¿de qué sirve que algunos de ustedes digan que son fieles a Dios, t t t t si no hacen nada bueno para demostrarlo? ¡Así no se van a salvar!
15 Si algún hermano o hermana de la iglesia no tiene ropa ni comida,16 y tú no le das lo que necesita para abrigarse y comer bien, de nada le sirve que tú le digas «Que te vaya bien, abrígate y come hasta que te llenes».

17 Lo mismo pasa con la fidelidad a Dios: de nada nos sirve decir que le somos fieles, si no hacemos nada que lo demuestre. Esa clase de fidelidad está muerta.
18 A los que dicen que son fieles a Dios, pero no hacen lo bueno, yo les podría decir: «Tú dices que eres fiel a Dios, y yo hago lo que es bueno. Demuéstrame que es posible ser fiel a Dios sin tener que hacer lo bueno, y yo te demostraré que soy fiel a Dios por medio del bien que hago.19 Tú crees que existe un solo Dios. ¡Muy bien! Pero hasta los demonios creen en él y tiemblan de miedo.20 No seas tonto. Debes aceptar que de nada te sirve decir que eres fiel a Dios y confiar en él, si no haces lo bueno.21 Nuestro antepasado Abraham agradó a Dios cuando puso a su hijo Isaac sobre el altar, para sacrificarlo. Y Dios lo aceptó por eso.

22 La confianza que Abraham tuvo en Dios se demostró con todo lo que hizo, y por medio de todo lo que hizo su confianza llegó a ser perfecta.»

23 Así se cumplió lo que dice en la Biblia: «Abraham confió en la promesa de Dios, y por eso Dios lo aceptó». Fue así como Abraham se hizo amigo de Dios.

24 Como pueden ver, Dios nos acepta por lo que hacemos, y no sólo por lo que creemos.

25 Así le sucedió a Rahab, la prostituta. Dios la aceptó por haber recibido y escondido a los espías en su casa, y por ayudarlos también a escapar por otro camino.

26 Así como un cuerpo sin alma está muerto, también la confianza en Dios está muerta si no va acompañada de buenas acciones.

James 2

1 My brethren, hold not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons.2 For if there come into your synagogue a man with a gold ring, in fine clothing, and there come in also a poor man in vile clothing;3 and ye have regard to him that weareth the fine clothing, and say, Sit thou here in a good place; and ye say to the poor man, Stand thou there, or sit under my footstool;4 Do ye not make distinctions among yourselves, and become judges with evil thoughts?5 Hearken, my beloved brethren; did not God choose them that are poor as to the world to be rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he promised to them that love him?6 But ye have dishonored the poor man. Do not the rich oppress you, and themselves drag you before the judgment-seats?7 Do not they blaspheme the honorable name by which ye are called?8 Howbeit if ye fulfil the royal law, according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself, ye do well:9 but if ye have respect of persons, ye commit sin, being convicted by the law as transgressors.10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is become guilty of all.11 For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou dost not commit adultery, but killest, thou art become a transgressor of the law.12 So speak ye, and so do, as men that are to be judged by a law of liberty.13 For judgment is without mercy to him that hath showed no mercy: mercy glorieth against judgment.14 What doth it profit, my brethren, if a man say he hath faith, but have not works? can that faith save him?15 If a brother or sister be naked and in lack of daily food,16 and one of you say unto them, Go in peace, be ye warmed and filled; and yet ye give them not the things needful to the body; what doth it profit?17 Even so faith, if it have not works, is dead in itself.18 Yea, a man will say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: show me thy faith apart from thy works, and I by my works will show thee my faith.19 Thou believest that God is one; thou doest well: the demons also believe, and shudder.20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith apart from works is barren?21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works, in that he offered up Isaac his son upon the altar?22 Thou seest that faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect;23 and the scripture was fulfilled which saith, And Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned unto him for righteousness; and he was called the friend of God.24 Ye see that by works a man is justified, and not only by faith.25 And in like manner was not also Rahab the harlot justified by works, in that she received the messengers, and sent them out another way?26 For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, even so faith apart from works is dead.
