یعقوب 2

1 ای برادرانt، ایمان شما به عیسی مسیح، خداوند جلال، با ظاهربینی و تبعیض همراه نباشد. 2 اگر شخصی با انگشتر طلا و لباس فاخر به عبادتگاه شما بیاید و فقیری با لباس پاره نیز وارد شود 3 و شما به کسی‌که لباس فاخر دارد احترام بگذارید و بگویید: «بفرمایید بالا بنشینید» و به آن شخص فقیر بگویید: «در آنجا بایست یا در اینجا روی زمین پیش پای من بنشین.»

4 آیا با این کار در بین خود تبعیض قایل نمی‌‌شوید و آیا قضاوت شما از روی فكرهای پلید نیست؟
5 ای برادرانt عزیز گوش دهید، مگر خدا فقیران این جهان را برنگزیده است تا در ایمان، دولتمند و وارث آن ملكوتی باشند كه او به دوستداران خود وعده داده است؟ 6 امّا شما به فقرا بی‌احترامی می‌کنید. آیا دولتمندان به شما ظلم نمی‌کنند و شما را به پای میز محاكمه نمی‌‌کشند؟

7 و آیا آنها به نام نیكویی كه خدا بر شما نهاده است، بی‌حرمتی نمی‌کنند؟
8 اگر شما قانون شاهانه‌ای را که در كلام خداست و می‌فرماید: «همسایه‌ات را مثل جان خود دوست بدار.» بجا آورید، كاری نیكو كرده‌اید. 9 امّا اگر بین اشخاص از روی ظاهر آنها تبعیض قایل شوید، مرتكب گناه شده‌اید و شریعت، شما را به عنوان خطا‌كار محكوم می‌نماید. 10 چون اگر كسی تمام شریعت را رعایت كند و فقط یكی از قوانین آن را بشكند، باز هم در مقابل تمام شریعت مقصّر است. 11 زیرا همان كسی‌كه گفت: «زنا نكن.» همچنین گفته است: «قتل نكن.» پس اگر تو زنا نکنی ولی مرتكب قتل شوی، باز هم شریعت را شكسته‌ای. 12 مانند كسانی سخن گویید و عمل نمایید كه خداوند بر اساس این قانون آزادی‌بخش، دربارهٔ آنها قضاوت می‌کند.

13 چون خدا بر كسی که رحم نكرده، رحیم نخواهد بود، ولی همیشه رحمت بر داوری چیره خواهد شد.

ایمان و عمل

17 همین‌طور ایمانی كه با عمل همراه نباشد، مرده است.
18 ممكن است كسی بگوید: «تو ایمان داری و من کارهای نیكو. تو به من ثابت كن چگونه می‌توانی بدون کارهای نیک ایمان داشته باشی و من ایمان خود را به وسیلهٔ کارهای خویش به تو ثابت می‌کنم.» 19 تو ایمان داری كه خدا واحد است، بسیار خوب! دیوها هم ایمان دارند و از ترس می‌لرزند. 20 ای مرد نادان، آیا نمی‌دانی كه ایمان بدون کار نیک بی‌ثمر است؟ 21 پدر ما ابراهیم به‌خاطر کارهای خود در وقتی‌که فرزند خویش اسحاق را در قربانگاه تقدیم خدا كرد، نیک و عادل محسوب شد. 22 می‌بینی كه چگونه ایمان او محرّک کارهای او بود و کارهای او نیز ایمانش را كامل گردانید. 23 كلام خدا که می‌فرماید: «ابراهیم به خدا ایمان آورد و این برایش نیكی مطلق محسوب شد.» تحقّق یافت و او دوست خدا خوانده شد.

24 پس می‌بیند كه چگونه انسان نه فقط از راه ایمان، بلكه به وسیلهٔ کارهای خود نیک و عادل شمرده می‌شود.

25 همین‌طور راحاب فاحشه نیز با کارهای نیک خود یعنی پناه دادن به قاصدان اسرائیلی و روانه كردن آنها از راه دیگر، نیک و عادل شمرده شد.
26 ایمان بی‌عمل مانند بدن بی‌روح، مرده است.

JAMES 2

Warning against Having //Favorites

1 My friends, if you have faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ, you won't treat some people better than others. 2 Suppose a rich person wearing fancy clothes and a gold ring comes to one of your meetings. And suppose a poor person dressed in worn-out clothes also comes. 3 You must not give the best seat to the one in fancy clothes and tell the one who is poor to stand at the side or sit on the floor.

4 This is the same as saying that some people are better than others, and you would be acting like a crooked judge.
5 My dear friends, pay attention. God has given a lot of faith to the poor people in this world. God has also promised them a share in his kingdom that he will give to everyone who loves him. 6 You mistreat the poor. But isn't it the rich who boss you around and drag you off to court?

7 Aren't they the ones who make fun of your Lord?
8  t You will do all right, if you obey the most important lawt in the Scriptures. It is the law that commands us to love others as much as we love ourselves.

9 But if you treat some people better than others, you have done wrong, and the Scriptures teach that you have sinned.
10  t If you obey every law except one, you are still guilty of breaking them all.

11 t The same God who told us to be faithful in marriage also told us not to murder. So even if you are faithful in marriage, but murder someone, you still have broken God's Law.
12 Speak and act like people who will be judged by the law that sets us free.

13 Do this, because on the day of judgment there will be no pity for those who have not had pity on others. But even in judgment, God is merciful!t

Faith and Works

17 Faith that doesn't lead us to do good deeds is all alone and dead!

18 Suppose someone disagrees and says, “It is possible to have faith without doing kind deeds.”
I would answer, “Prove that you have faith without doing kind deeds, and I will prove that I have faith by doing them.”

19 You surely believe there is only one God. That's fine. Even demons believe this, and it makes them shake with fear.
20 Does some stupid person want proof that faith without deeds is useless? 21 t Well, our ancestor Abraham pleased God by putting his son Isaac on the altar to sacrifice him. 22 Now you see how Abraham's faith and deeds worked together. He proved his faith was real by what he did.

23 t This is what the Scriptures mean by saying, “Abraham had faith in God, and God accepted him.” That's how Abraham became God's friend.
24 You can now see that we please God by what we do and not only by what we believe.

25 t For example, Rahab had been a prostitute. But she pleased God when she welcomed the spies and sent them home by another way.
26 Anyone who doesn't breathe is dead, and faith that doesn't do anything is just as dead!
