Advertencia para los ricos

1  Presten atención, ustedes los ricos: lloren y giman con angustia por todas las calamidades que les esperan. 2 Su riqueza se está pudriendo, y su ropa fina son trapos carcomidos por polillas. 3 Su oro y plata han perdido su valor. Las mismas riquezas con las que contaban les consumirán la carne como lo hace el fuego. El tesoro que han acumulado se usará como evidencia contra ustedes el día del juicio. 4 Así que ¡escuchen! Oigan las protestas de los obreros del campo a quienes estafaron con el salario. El dinero que no les pagaron clama en contra de ustedes. Los reclamos de quienes les cosechan sus campos han llegado a los oídos del SEÑOR de los Ejércitos Celestiales.

5 Sus años sobre la tierra los han pasado con lujos, satisfaciendo todos y cada uno de sus deseos. Se han dejado engordar para el día de la matanza. 6 Han condenado y matado a personas inocentes,t que no ponían resistencia.t

Paciencia y perseverancia

7 Amados hermanos, tengan paciencia mientras esperan el regreso del Señor. Piensen en los agricultores, que con paciencia esperan las lluvias en el otoño y la primavera. Con ansias esperan a que maduren los preciosos cultivos. 8 Ustedes también deben ser pacientes. Anímense, porque la venida del Señor está cerca.

9 Hermanos, no se quejen unos de otros, o serán juzgados. ¡Pues miren, el Juez ya está a la puerta!

10 Amados hermanos, tomen como ejemplo de paciencia durante el sufrimiento a los profetas que hablaron en nombre del Señor. 11 Honramos en gran manera a quienes resisten con firmeza en tiempo de dolor. Por ejemplo, han oído hablar de Job, un hombre de gran perseverancia. Pueden ver cómo al final el Señor fue bueno con él, porque el Señor está lleno de ternura y misericordia.

12 Pero sobre todo, hermanos míos, nunca juren por el cielo ni por la tierra ni por ninguna otra cosa. Simplemente digan «sí» o «no», para que no pequen y sean condenados.

El poder de la oración

13 ¿Alguno de ustedes está pasando por dificultades? Que ore. ¿Alguno está feliz? Que cante alabanzas. 14 ¿Alguno está enfermo? Que llame a los ancianos de la iglesia, para que vengan y que oren por él y lo unjan con aceite en el nombre del Señor. 15 Una oración ofrecida con fe, sanará al enfermo, y el Señor hará que se recupere; y si ha cometido pecados, será perdonado.

16 Confiésense los pecados unos a otros y oren los unos por los otros, para que sean sanados. La oración ferviente de una persona justa tiene mucho poder y da resultados maravillosos. 17 Elías era tan humano como cualquiera de nosotros; sin embargo, cuando oró con fervor para que no cayera lluvia, ¡no llovió durante tres años y medio! 18 Más tarde, cuando volvió a orar, el cielo envió lluvia, y la tierra comenzó a dar cosechas.

Restaurar a los creyentes que se apartan

19 Mis amados hermanos, si alguno de ustedes se aparta de la verdad y otro lo hace volver, 20 pueden estar seguros de que quien haga volver al pecador de su mal camino salvará a esa persona de la muerte y traerá como resultado el perdón de muchos pecados.

Warning to the Rich

1 You rich people should cry and weep! Terrible things are going to happen to you. 2 t Your treasures have already rotted, and moths have eaten your clothes. 3 t Your money has rusted, and the rust will be evidence against you, as it burns your body like fire. Yet you keep on storing up wealth in these last days.

4 t You refused to pay the people who worked in your fields, and now their unpaid wages are shouting out against you. The Lord All-Powerful has surely heard the cries of the workers who harvested your crops.
5 While here on earth, you have thought only of filling your own stomachs and having a good time. But now you are like fat cattle on their way to be butchered.

6 t You have condemned and murdered innocent people, who couldn't even fight back.

Be Patient and Kind

9 Don't grumble about each other or you will be judged, and the judge is right outside the door.
10 My friends, follow the example of the prophets who spoke for the Lord. They were patient, even when they had to suffer.

11 t In fact, we praise the ones who endured the most. You remember how patient Job was and how the Lord finally helped him. The Lord did this because he is so merciful and kind.

12  t My friends, above all else, don't take an oath. You must not swear by heaven or by earth or by anything else. “Yes” or “No” is all you need to say. If you say anything more, you will be condemned.
13 If you are having trouble, you should pray. And if you are feeling good, you should sing praises. 14 t If you are sick, ask the church leaderst to come and pray for you. Ask them to put olive oilt on you in the name of the Lord.

15 If you have faith when you pray for sick people, they will get well. The Lord will heal them, and if they have sinned, he will forgive them.
16  t If you have sinned, you should tell each other what you have done. Then you can pray for one another and be healed. The prayer of an innocent person is powerful, and it can help a lot. 17 t Elijah was just as human as we are, and for three and a half years his prayers kept the rain from falling.

18 t But when he did pray for rain, it fell from the skies and made the crops grow.
19 My friends, if any followers have wandered away from the truth, you should try to lead them back. 20 t If you turn sinners from the wrong way, you will save them from death, and many of their sins will be forgiven.
