Gióp 2

1 Xảy ra một ngày kia, các con trai của Đức Chúa Trời đến ra mắt Đức Giê-hô-va, Sa-tan cũng có đến trong vòng chúng đặng ra mắt Đức Giê-hô-va.2 Đức Giê-hô-va bèn phán hỏi Sa-tan rằng: Ngươi ở đâu đến? Sa-tan thưa cùng Đức Giê-hô-va rằng: Tôi trải qua đây đó trên đất và dạo chơi tại nơi nó.3 Đức Giê-hô-va lại phán hỏi Sa-tan rằng: Ngươi có nhìn thấy Gióp, tôi tớ của ta chăng? Trên đất chẳng có ai giống như người, vốn trọn vẹn và ngay thẳng, kính sợ Đức Chúa Trời, và lánh khỏi điều ác; lại người bền đỗ trong sự hoàn toàn mình, mặc dầu ngươi có giục ta phá hủy người vô cớ.4 Sa-tan thưa lại với Đức Giê-hô-va rằng: Lấy da đền da, phàm vật chi một người có, tất sẽ trao thế cho mạng sống mình.5 Nhưng bây giờ xin Chúa hãy giơ tay ra, đụng đến hại xương thịt người, ắt là người sẽ phỉ báng Chúa trước mặt.6 Đức Giê-hô-va phán với Sa-tan rằng: Kìa, người ở trong tay ngươi; nhưng chỉ hãy giữ mạng sống người.7 Sa-tan bèn lui ra khỏi trước mặt Đức Giê-hô-va, hành hại Gióp một bịnh ung độc, từ bàn chân cho đến chót đầu.8 Gióp lấy một miếng sành đặng gãi mình, và ngồi trong đống tro.9 Vợ người nói với người rằng: Ủa? Ông hãy còn bền đỗ trong sự hoàn toàn mình sao? Hãy phỉ báng Đức Chúa Trời, và chết đi!10 Người đáp lại rằng: Ngươi nói như một người đàn bà ngu muội. Ủa sao! Sự phước mà tay Đức Chúa Trời ban cho chúng ta, chúng ta lãnh lấy, còn sự tai họa mà tay Ngài giáng trên chúng ta, lại chẳng lãnh lấy sao? Trong mọi việc đó, Gióp không phạm tội bởi môi miệng mình.11 Vả, khi ba bạn hữu của Gióp, là Ê-li-pha người Thê-man, Binh-đát người Su-a, và Sô-pha người Na-a-ma, hay được các tai nạn đã xảy đến cho người, mỗi người bèn hẹn nhau từ xứ mình đi đến đặng chia buồn và an ủi người.12 Ba bạn hữu ở xa ngước mắt lên thì chẳng nhận biết người, bèn cất tiếng lên khóc, mỗi người xé áo mình, hất bụi lên trời mà vãi trên đầu mình.13 Đoạn, ba bạn ngồi xuống đất với người trong bảy ngày bảy đêm, chẳng ai nói một lời với người, vì thấy sự đau đớn người lớn lắm.

Job 2

Satan’s Additional Charge

1 Again the day came when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also arrived among them to present himself before the Lord.s2 And the Lord said to Satan, “Where do you come from?” Satan answered the Lord,t “From roving about on the earth, and from walking back and forth across it.”t

3 Then the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job? For there is no one like him on the earth, a pure and upright man, one who fears God and turns away from evil. And he still holds firmlyt to his integrity,t so thatt you stirred me up to destroy himt without reason.”s
4 Butt Satan answered the Lord, “Skin fort skin!s Indeed, a man will give ups all that he has to save his life!t

5 But extend your hand and strike his bone and his flesh,s and he will no doubts curse you to your face!”

6 So the Lord said to Satan, “All right,t he ist in your power;t only preserves his life.”

Job’s Integrity in Suffering

7 So Satan went out from the presence of the Lord, and he afflictedt Job with a malignant ulcers from the sole of his feet to the top of his head.t

8 Job took a shard of broken pottery to scrapet himselfs with while he was sittingt among the ashes.s
9 Thent his wife said to him, “Are you still holding firmly to your integrity?s Cursets God, and die!”t

10 But he replied,t “You’re talking like one of the godlesst women would do! Should we receivet what is good from God, and not alsot receivet what is evil?”ts In all this Job did not sin by what he said.t

The Visit of Job’s Friends

11 When Job’s three friends heard about all this calamity that had happened to him, each of them came from his own countryt – Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite.s They met togethert to come to show sympathyt for him and to consolet him.12 But when they gazed intentlyt from a distance but did not recognizet him, they began to weep loudly. Each of them tore his robes, and they threw dust into the air over their heads.t

13 Then they sat down with him on the ground for seven days and seven nights, yet no one spoke a word to him, for they saw that his paint was very great.s
