ヨエル書 2

二

1 さあ、エルサレムに警報を鳴らせ。　わたしの聖なる山に警告のラッパを響かせよ。　すべての者よ、恐れおののけ。　神のさばきの日が近づいているからだ。
2 陰うつな暗やみの日。　暗雲の重くたれこめた日。　なんという大軍か。　山々を夜のようにおおい尽くしている。　なんと強大な国民か。　このような国民は、世界が始まって以来、見たこともないし、これから見ることもないだろう。　3 その行く先々には火の手が上がり、回りにも広がる。　前には、エデンの園のように美しい地が横たわっているが、彼らはそれを根こそぎ破壊してしまう。　4 まるで小馬のように、ぐるぐる駆け回る。　5 山々のいただきを跳びはねる様子を見よ。　そのざわめきに耳を傾けよ。　まるで戦車の押し寄せる響き、野原をなめ尽くす炎の音のようだ。　また、戦場に突入する強大な軍隊のようでもある。
6 迎える国民は、恐怖のあまり青ざめる。　7 その兵士は歩兵のように突撃し、えり抜きの精兵のように城壁をよじ登る。　列を乱すことなく、まっすぐに進む。　8 互いに群がることもなく、整然と行進する。　どんな武器も、彼らをとどめることができない。　9 たちまち町に殺到し、城壁をよじ登る。　また、窓から押し入る強盗のように、家々の壁をもよじ登る。　10 彼らの前で、地は揺れ動き、天も震え上がる。　太陽と月は光を失い、星も姿を消す。
11 神様はひと声で、彼らを指揮する。　これは神の大軍で、そのご命令に従う。　神のさばきの日は、ほんとうに恐ろしい。　だれが、それに耐え得ようか。
12 それゆえ、神様はこうお語りになります。　「まだ、間に合うぞ。　さあ、わたしに立ち返れ。　全身全霊をわたしに傾けよ。　断食し、嘆き悲しみながら来い。　13 悪かったと心底から認め、衣を引き裂くのではなく、心を引き裂け。」　神様に立ち返れ。　神様は恵み深く、あわれみに富んでおられるからだ。　神様は親切で、むやみに怒ることもなく、あなたがたを何とか罰しないでおこうとしておられるのだ。
14 だれが知ろう。　もしかすると、神様は恐ろしいのろいをかけるのをやめ、あなたがたにそのまま祝福を下さるかもしれない。　以前と変わらず、神様に穀物やぶどう酒をささげることができるように、それらをいっぱい恵んでくださるかもしれない。
15 シオン（エルサルム）にラッパを吹き鳴らせ。　断食を呼びかけ、すべての人に聖なる集会のふれを出せ。　16 老人も、子供も、赤ん坊も、みな連れて来い。　花婿を寝室から、花嫁をその部屋から呼び出せ。17 神に仕える祭司たちは、人々と祭壇との間に立って、泣きながら祈るがいい。　「ああ神様、私たちをおこころにかけてください。　私たちは神様の国民ですから、異教徒の支配下に置かないでください。『彼らの神はどこにいるんだい？　きっと弱くて、何もできないんだろうよ』などと、あざけられないようにしてください。」
18 これを聞いて、神様はかわいそうに思い、ご自分の地の名誉が傷つけられるのをいたく憤慨された。　19 そして、このようにお答えになった。　「さあ、おまえたちが不自由しないように、たくさんの穀物とぶどう酒と油を送ろう。　もう決しておまえたちを、他国の物笑いの種にはさせない。　20 北から来る軍隊を立ち退かせ、遠くへ追いやる。　彼らはからからに乾いた荒れ地に退き、そこで死ぬ。　半分は死海に追いやられ、残りは地中海に押しやられる。　その死体の悪臭がこの地に満ちる。　おまえたちのために、すばらしい奇蹟を行なったのだ。」
21 私の国民よ、恐れるな。　さあ、楽しみ喜べ。　神様が驚くべきことをしてくださったのだ。
22 羊や牛の群れに、飢えを忘れさせよ。　牧場は再び緑におおわれる。　木々は実をつけ、いちじくやぶどうも豊かな実りをもたらす。
23 喜べ、さあ、エルサレムの住民よ。　神様を喜びたたえよ。　神様が降らせてくださる雨は、赦しの確かなしるしだ。　春に雨が降るように、また秋にも雨が降る。　24 脱穀場の床には小麦がうず高く積まれ、圧搾機からはオリーブ油とぶどう酒があふれ出る。　25 わたしは、いなご、――おまえたちを滅ぼすために送り込んだ軍勢――が食い尽くした作物を、返してやろう。　26 再び、おまえたちは欲しいだけ、食物を手に入れることができる。
こんな驚くべきことをしてくださった神様を、ほめたたえよ。
わたしは二度と、わたしの国民をこんな災いに会わせはしない。
27 おまえたちは、イスラエルの中にわたしが確かにいることを、また、わたしだけがおまえたちの神であることを知る。　わたしの国民は、二度とこのような打撃をこうむることはない。
28 雨を降らせたあと、わたしの霊をおまえたちに注ぐ。　息子や娘は預言し、老人は夢を見、若者は幻を見る。　29 奴隷にも、男にも、女にも、同じようにわたしの霊を注ぐ。　30 地上にも大空にも、不思議なしるし、血や火や煙の柱を置く。
31 神の大いなる恐るべき日がくる前に、太陽は暗くなり、月は血に変わる。
32 神様の名を呼び求める者は、だれでも救われる。　神様が約束なさったように、エルサレムにも、幾人か難を逃れる者がいる。　神様が幾人かを選んで、生き残るようにしてくださったからだ。

Joel 2

1 Blow ye the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in my holy mountain; let all the inhabitants of the land tremble: for the day of Jehovah cometh, for it is nigh at hand;2 a day of darkness and gloominess, a day of clouds and thick darkness, as the dawn spread upon the mountains; a great people and a strong; there hath not been ever the like, neither shall be any more after them, even to the years of many generations.3 A fire devoureth before them; and behind them a flame burneth: the land is as the garden of Eden before them, and behind them a desolate wilderness; yea, and none hath escaped them.4 The appearance of them is as the appearance of horses; and as horsemen, so do they run.5 Like the noise of chariots on the tops of the mountains do they leap, like the noise of a flame of fire that devoureth the stubble, as a strong people set in battle array.6 At their presence the peoples are in anguish; all faces are waxed pale.7 They run like mighty men; they climb the wall like men of war; and they march every one on his ways, and they break not their ranks.8 Neither doth one thrust another; they march every one in his path; and they burst through the weapons, and break not off their course.9 They leap upon the city; they run upon the wall; they climb up into the houses; they enter in at the windows like a thief.10 The earth quaketh before them; the heavens tremble; the sun and the moon are darkened, and the stars withdraw their shining.11 And Jehovah uttereth his voice before his army; for his camp is very great; for he is strong that executeth his word; for the day of Jehovah is great and very terrible; and who can abide it?12 Yet even now, saith Jehovah, turn ye unto me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning:13 and rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto Jehovah your God; for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abundant in lovingkindness, and repenteth him of the evil.14 Who knoweth whether he will not turn and repent, and leave a blessing behind him, even a meal-offering and a drink-offering unto Jehovah your God?15 Blow the trumpet in Zion, sanctify a fast, call a solemn assembly;16 gather the people, sanctify the assembly, assemble the old men, gather the children, and those that suck the breasts; let the bridegroom go forth from his chamber, and the bride out of her closet.17 Let the priests, the ministers of Jehovah, weep between the porch and the altar, and let them say, Spare thy people, O Jehovah, and give not thy heritage to reproach, that the nations should rule over them: wherefore should they say among the peoples, Where is their God?18 Then was Jehovah jealous for his land, and had pity on his people.19 And Jehovah answered and said unto his people, Behold, I will send you grain, and new wine, and oil, and ye shall be satisfied therewith; and I will no more make you a reproach among the nations;20 but I will remove far off from you the northern army, and will drive it into a land barren and desolate, its forepart into the eastern sea, and its hinder part into the western sea; and its stench shall come up, and its ill savor shall come up, because it hath done great things.21 Fear not, O land, be glad and rejoice; for Jehovah hath done great things.22 Be not afraid, ye beasts of the field; for the pastures of the wilderness do spring, for the tree beareth its fruit, the fig-tree and the vine do yield their strength.23 Be glad then, ye children of Zion, and rejoice in Jehovah your God; for he giveth you the former rain in just measure, and he causeth to come down for you the rain, the former rain and the latter rain, in the first month.24 And the floors shall be full of wheat, and the vats shall overflow with new wine and oil.25 And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the canker-worm, and the caterpillar, and the palmer-worm, my great army which I sent among you.26 And ye shall eat in plenty and be satisfied, and shall praise the name of Jehovah your God, that hath dealt wondrously with you; and my people shall never be put to shame.27 And ye shall know that I am in the midst of Israel, and that I am Jehovah your God, and there is none else; and my people shall never be put to shame.28 And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:29 and also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my Spirit.30 And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth: blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke.31 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and terrible day of Jehovah cometh.32 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of Jehovah shall be delivered; for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be those that escape, as Jehovah hath said, and among the remnant those whom Jehovah doth call.
