Johannes 1

Gud blev människa

1 I tidens början fanns redan Ordett. Ordet fanns hos Gud, och Ordet var Gud.2 Han fanns hos Gud redan i tidens början.3 Gud lät honom skapa allt som finns till. Det finns inget som inte har blivit skapat av honom.4 Allt liv kommer från honom, och hans liv är människornas ljus.

5 Hans ljus lyser i mörkret, och mörkret kan aldrig släcka det.
6 Gud sände Johannes döparen7 för att berätta om ljuset, så att alla skulle börja tro på grund av hans budskap.8 Johannes var inte ljuset. Han var bara den som skulle göra ljuset känt.

9 Det sanna ljuset, han som är hela mänsklighetens ljus, skulle nu komma in i världen.
10 Men trots att Gud hade låtit honom skapa världen, kände världen inte igen honom när han kom.11 Inte ens i hans eget land och bland hans eget folk tog man emot honom.12 Men åt alla som tog emot honom, gav han rätten att bli Guds barn. Ja, alla som tror på honom får samma rätt.

13 De föds en gång till, men inte genom någon fysisk födelse som är resultatet av människors känslor och handlingar. Nej, de blir födda av Gud själv.

14 Och Ordet blev människa och levde bland oss här på jorden. Vi såg hans härlighet, den härlighet som den enda Sonen har fått av sin Far i himlen. Och genom Sonen har vi lärt känna Fadern och hans kärlek och förlåtelse.

15 Johannes döparen talade om Sonen och ropade till folket: "Det var honom jag talade om när jag sa: 'Han som kommer efter mig betyder mer än jag, för han fanns till innan jag blev till.t' "
16 Ja, han var fylld av kärlek och förlåtelse, och gång på gång har vi fått uppleva hans godhet mot oss.17 Mose gav oss lagent, men det är genom Jesus Kristust, den utlovade kungen, som vi har lärt känna Gud och hans kärlek och förlåtelse.

18 Ingen har någonsin sett Gud, men hans enda Son, som själv är Gud och finns nära Fadern, han har visat oss vem Fadern är.

Johannes döparen talar om Jesus

19-20 De judiska ledarna sände präster och tempeltjänare från Jerusalem, för att fråga Johannes döparen om han var Messiast, den utlovade kungen. Men Johannes förklarade öppet: "Nej, jag är inte Messias."
21 "Vem är du då?" frågade de. "Är du Eliat?"
"Nej", svarade han.
"Är du profeten som skulle framföra Guds budskap?"t
"Nej", svarade han.

22 Då sa de: "Berätta vem du är! Något svar måste vi ha att ge till dem som har sänt oss. Vad säger du om dig själv?"

23 Johannes svarade dem då genom att citera det Gud sagt om honom genom profeten Jesaja. Han sa: "Jag är en röst som ropar i öknen: 'Gör vägen rak för Herren!t' "
24 De som hade sänts ut av fariseernat,

25 frågade honom nu: "Varför döper du folk om du varken är Messias eller Elia eller den profet som Gud skulle sända?"
26 Johannes svarade dem: "Jag döper med vatten, men mitt ibland er står en som ni inte känner.

27 Han är den som kommer efter mig, och han är så mäktig att jag inte ens är värdig att knyta upp hans sandalremmar.t"

28 Detta hände i Betania, en by på andra sidan Jordanfloden, där Johannes döpte.

Jesus är Guds lamm

29 Nästa dag fick Johannes döparen se Jesus komma emot honom, och han sa: "Där är Guds lamm, som tar bort människornas synd.30 Det var honom jag talade om när jag sa: 'Efter mig kommer en som betyder mer än jag, för han fanns till innan jag blev till.'

31 Jag visste inte i förväg vem han var, men jag har kommit för att döpa med vatten, så att Israels folk ska se vem han är."
32 Och Johannes berättade: "Jag såg Guds Ande komma ner från himlen som en duva och stanna kvar över honom.33 Jag visste inte i förväg vem han var, men då Gud sände mig för att döpa med vatten, sa han till mig: 'När du ser Anden komma ner och stanna kvar över någon, då vet du att han är den som döper med min heliga Ande.'

34 Jag såg detta hända, och därför kan jag intyga att han är Guds Sont."

De första efterföljarna

35 Dagen efter stod Johannes döparen där igen med två av sina efterföljare,

36 och när Jesus kom gående förbi såg Johannes på honom och sa: "Där är Guds lamm!"
37 Johannes båda efterföljare hörde detta och började gå efter Jesus.38 När Jesus då vände sig om och såg att de följde efter honom, frågade han dem: "Är det något ni vill?"
De svarade: "Rabbi (det betyder mästare), var bor du?"39 Då sa Jesus: "Kom med mig och se." Och så gick de med honom till den plats där han bodde. Klockan var runt fyra på eftermiddagen när de gick iväg, och de stannade sedan hos honom till kvällen.

40 Den ene av de två som hade hört vad Johannes sa och sedan följt efter Jesus var Andreas, Simon Petrus bror.
41 Det första Andreas gjorde efteråt var att leta reda på sin bror Simon, och då han hittade honom sa han: "Vi har funnit Messias, den utlovade kungen" (Messias betyder den smorde).t

42 Och han tog med sig sin bror till Jesus. Jesus såg då på Simon och sa: "Du är Simon, Johannes son. Men du ska kallas Petrus (det betyder klippa).t"
43 Dagen därpå tänkte Jesus gå till Galileen. Då träffade han Filippos och sa till honom: "Kom och bli min efterföljare."

44 Filippos var från Betsaida, Andreas och Petrus hemstad.

45 Filippos gick sedan för att söka reda på Natanael och sa till honom: "Vi har funnit den man som Moses lag och profeternat talar om. Han heter Jesus och är son till Josef från Nasaret."
46 "Nasaret!" utropade Natanael. "Kan något gott komma därifrån?"
"Kom och se själv", svarade Filippos.

47 Och när Jesus såg Natanael närma sig, sa han: "Här kommer en ärlig och uppriktig man, en äkta israelitt."
48 "Hur kan du känna mig?" undrade Natanael.
Jesus svarade: "Jag såg dig under fikonträdet innan Filippos hittade dig."

49 Då utbrast Natanael: "Mästare, du är Guds Son, Israels kung!"
50 Men Jesus sa till honom: "Tror du detta bara för att jag sa att jag såg dig under fikonträdet? Du kommer att få större bevis än så.

51 Jag försäkrar er att ni ska få se himlen öppen och Guds änglar stiga upp och stiga ner över mig, Människosonent."t

John 1

The Prologue to the Gospel

1 In the beginnings was the Word, and the Word was with God,t and the Word was fully God.ts2 The Wordt was with God in the beginning.3 All things were createdt by him, and apart from him not one thing was createdt that has been created.st4 In him was life,ts and the life was the light of mankind.t

5 And the light shines onts in the darkness,s butt the darkness has not mastered it.t
6 A man came, sent from God, whose name was John.s7 He came as a witnessts to testifyt about the light, so that everyonet might believe through him.8 He himself was not the light, but he came to testifyt about the light.9 The true light, who gives light to everyone,t was coming into the world.ts10 He was in the world, and the world was createdt by him, butt the world did not recognizet him.11 He came to what was his own,t butt his own peoplet did not receive him.s12 But to all who have received him – those who believe in his namet – he has given the right to become God’s children

13 – children not bornt by human parentst or by human desiret or a husband’st decision,t but by God.
14 Nowt the Word became flesht and took up residencets among us. Wet saw his glory – the glory of the one and only,t full of grace and truth, who came from the Father.15 Johns testifiedt about him and shouted out,t “This one was the one about whom I said, ‘He who comes after me is greater than I am,t because he existed before me.’”16 For we have all received from his fullness one gracious gift after another.ts17 For the law was given through Moses, butt grace and truth came about through Jesus Christ.

18 No one has ever seen God. The only one,st himself God, who is in closest fellowship witht the Father, has made Godt known.s

The Testimony of John the Baptist

19 Nowt this wast John’ss testimonyts when the Jewish leaderst sents priests and Levites from Jerusalems to ask him, “Who are you?”s20 He confessed – he did not deny but confessed – “I am not the Christ!”ts21 So they asked him, “Then who are you?t Are you Elijah?” He said, “I am not!”s “Are you the Prophet?”s He answered, “No!”

22 Then they said to him, “Who are you? Tell ust so that we can give an answer to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?”
23 Johnt said, “I am the voice of one shouting in the wilderness, ‘Make straightsthe way for the Lord,’s as Isaiah the prophet said.”24 (Now they had been sent from the Pharisees.s)s

25 So they asked John,t “Why then are you baptizing if you are not the Christ,ts nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?”
26 John answered them,t “I baptize with water. Among you stands one whom you do not recognize,t27 who is coming after me. I am not worthyts to untie the strapt of his sandal!”

28 These things happened in Bethanys across the Jordan Rivert where John was baptizing.
29 On the next day Johnt saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of Gods who takes away the sin of the world!30 This is the one about whom I said, ‘After me comes a man who is greater than I am,t because he existed before me.’

31 I did not recognizet him, but I came baptizing with water so that he could be revealed to Israel.”s
32 Thent John testified,t “I saw the Spirit descending like a doves from heaven,t and it remained on him.s33 And I did not recognize him, but the one who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘The one on whom you see the Spirit descending and remaining – this is the one who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’

34 I have both seen and testified that this man is the Chosen One of God.”s
35 Again the next day Johns was standing theret with two of his disciples.36 Gazing at Jesus as he walked by, he said, “Look, the Lamb of God!”s37 When John’st two disciples heard him say this,t they followed Jesus.s38 Jesus turned around and saw them following and said to them, “What do you want?”t So they said to him, “Rabbi” (which is translated Teacher),s “where are you staying?”

39 Jesust answered,t “Come and you will see.” So they came and saw where he was staying, and they stayed with him that day. Now it was about four o’clock in the afternoon.ts

Andrew’s Declaration

40 Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter, was one of the two disciples who heard what John saidt and followed Jesus.t41 He firsts found his own brother Simon and told him, “We have found the Messiah!”s (which is translated Christ).ts

42 Andrew brought Simont to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon, the son of John.s You will be called Cephas” (which is translated Peter).s

The Calling of More Disciples

43 On the next day Jesust wanted to set out for Galilee.s Het found Philip and saidt to him, “Follow me.”44 (Now Philip was from Bethsaida,s the town oft Andrew and Peter.)45 Philip found Nathanaels and told him, “We have found the one Moses wrote about in the law, and the prophets alsot wrote about – Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.”

46 Nathanaelt replied,t “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?”ss Philip replied,t “Come and see.”
47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him and exclaimed,t “Look, a true Israelite in whom there is no deceit!”ts48 Nathanael asked him, “How do you know me?” Jesus replied,t “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree,s I saw you.”49 Nathanael answered him, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the kingt of Israel!”s50 Jesus said to him,t “Because I told you that I saw you under the fig tree, do you believe? You will see greater things than these.”s

51 He continued,t “I tell all of you the solemn trutht – you will see heaven opened and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.”s
