Den gode herden

1 Amen, amen säger jag er: Den som inte går in i fårfållan genom dörren utan tar sig in på något annat ställe, han är en tjuv och en rövare.2 Men den som går in genom dörren är fårens herde.3 För honom öppnar dörrvaktaren, och fåren lyssnar till hans röst, och han kallar på sina får och nämner dem med deras namn och för ut dem.4 När han har fört ut alla sina får, går han före dem, och fåren följer honom, därför att de känner igen hans röst.5 Men en främling följer de inte, utan flyr bort från honom, därför att de inte känner igen främlingars röst."6 Denna liknelse framställde Jesus för dem, men de förstod inte vad det var han talade om.7 Då sade Jesus än en gång: "Amen, amen säger jag er: Jag är dörren till fåren.8 Alla som har kommit före mig är tjuvar och rövare, men fåren har inte lyssnat till dem.9 Jag är dörren. Den som går in genom mig skall bli frälst, och han skall gå in och gå ut och finna bete.10 Tjuven kommer bara för att stjäla, slakta och döda. Jag har kommit för att de skall ha liv, ja, liv i överflöd.11 Jag är den gode herden. Den gode herden ger sitt liv för fåren.12 Den som är lejd och inte är en herde med egna får, han överger fåren och flyr, när han ser vargen komma. Och vargen river dem och skingrar hjorden.13 Den som är lejd bryr sig inte om fåren.14 Jag är den gode herden, och jag känner mina får, och mina får känner mig,15 liksom Fadern känner mig och jag känner Fadern, och jag ger mitt liv för fåren.16 Jag har också andra får, som inte hör till den här fållan.t Dem måste jag också leda, och de kommer att lyssna till min röst. Så skall det bli en hjord och en herde.17 Fadern älskar mig därför att jag ger mitt liv för att sedan ta det tillbaka.18 Ingen tar det ifrån mig, utan jag ger det av fri vilja. Jag har makt att ge det, och jag har makt att ta det tillbaka. Det budet har jag fått av min Fader."19 För de ordens skull uppstod det på nytt delade meningar bland judarna.20 Många av dem sade: "Han har en ond ande och är från sina sinnen. Varför hör ni på honom?"21 Andra sade: "Sådana ord kommer inte från en som är besatt. Inte kan en ond ande öppna ögonen på blinda."

Jesu enhet med Fadern

22 Nu inföll tempelinvigningens högtidt i Jerusalem. Det var vinter,23 och Jesus gick omkring i Salomos pelarhall i templet.24 Då samlades judarna omkring honom och frågade: "Hur länge vill du hålla oss i ovisshet? Om du är Messias, så säg det öppet till oss!"25 Jesus svarade: "Jag har sagt er det, och ni tror det inte. Gärningarna som jag gör i min Faders namn vittnar om mig.26 Men ni tror inte, därför att ni inte hör till mina får.27 Mina får lyssnar till min röst, och jag känner dem, och de följer mig.28 Jag ger dem evigt liv, och de skall aldrig någonsin gå förlorade, och ingen skall rycka dem ur min hand.29 Vad min Fader har gett mig är större än allt, och ingen kan rycka dem ur min Faders hand.30 Jag och Fadern är ett."31 Än en gång tog judarna upp stenar för att stena honom.32 Jesus sade till dem: "Många goda gärningar från Fadern har jag låtit er se. För vilken av dem vill ni stena mig?"33 Judarna svarade: "Det är inte för någon god gärning vi vill stena dig, utan därför att du hädar och gör dig själv till Gud, du som är en människa."34 Jesus svarade dem: "Står det inte skrivet i er lag:t "Jag har sagt att ni är gudar?"35 Om han nu kallar dem som fick Guds ord för gudar - och Skriften kan inte göras om intet -36 hur kan ni då säga till honom, som Fadern har helgat och sänt till världen: Du hädar, därför att jag sade: Jag är Guds Son.37 Om jag inte gör min Faders gärningar, så tro mig inte.38 Men om jag gör dem, så tro på gärningarna, om ni inte kan tro på mig. Då skall ni inse och förstå att Fadern är i mig och jag i Fadern."39 De försökte gripa honom igen, men han drog sig undan och gick bort från dem.40 Sedan begav han sig återigen till det ställe på andra sidan Jordan, där Johannes tidigare hade varit när han döpte. Där stannade han.41 Många kom till honom, och de sade: "Johannes gjorde visserligen inte något tecken, men allt vad han sade om Jesus var sant."42 Och många kom där till tro på honom.

JOHN 10

A Story about Sheep

1 Jesus said:
I tell you for certain only thieves and robbers climb over the fence instead of going in through the gate to the sheep pen.

2-3 But the gatekeeper opens the gate for the shepherd, and he goes in through it. The sheep know their shepherd's voice. He calls each of them by name and leads them out.
4 When he has led out all of his sheep, he walks in front of them, and they follow, because they know his voice.

5 The sheep will not follow strangers. They don't recognize a stranger's voice, and they run away.

6 Jesus told the people this story. But they did not understand what he was talking about.

Jesus Is the Good Shepherd

7 Jesus said:
I tell you for certain that I am the gate for the sheep. 8 Everyone who came before me was a thief or a robber, and the sheep did not listen to any of them.

9 I am the gate. All who come in through me will be saved. Through me they will come and go and find pasture.
10 A thief comes only to rob, kill, and destroy. I came so everyone would have life, and have it fully. 11 t I am the good shepherd, and the good shepherd gives up his life for his sheep. 12 Hired workers are not like the shepherd. They don't own the sheep, and when they see a wolf coming, they run off and leave the sheep. Then the wolf attacks and scatters the flock.

13 Hired workers run away because they don't care about the sheep.
14  t I am the good shepherd. I know my sheep, and they know me. 15 t Just as the Father knows me, I know the Father, and I give up my life for my sheep.

16 I have other sheep that are not in this sheep pen. I must also bring them together, when they hear my voice. Then there will be one flock of sheep and one shepherd.
17 The Father loves me, because I give up my life, so I may receive it back again.

18 No one takes my life from me. I give it up willingly! I have the power to give it up and the power to receive it back again, just as my Father commanded me to do.
19 The people took sides because of what Jesus had told them.

20 Many of them said, “He has a demon in him! He is crazy! Why listen to him?”

21 But others said, “How could anyone with a demon in him say these things? No one like this could give sight to a blind person!”

Jesus Is Rejected

24 and the people gathered all around him. They said, “How long are you going to keep us guessing? If you are the Messiah, tell us plainly!”

25 Jesus answered:
I have told you, and you refused to believe me. The things I do by my Father's authority show who I am. 26 But since you are not my sheep, you don't believe me. 27 My sheep know my voice, and I know them. They follow me, 28 and I give them eternal life, so that they will never be lost. No one can snatch them out of my hand. 29 t My Father gave them to me, and he is greater than all others.t No one can snatch them from his hands,

30 and I am one with the Father.
31 Once again the people picked up stones in order to kill Jesus.

32 But he said, “I have shown you many good things my Father sent me to do. Which one are you going to stone me for?”

33 They answered, “We are not stoning you because of any good thing you did. We are stoning you because you did a terrible thing. You are just a man, and here you are claiming to be God!”

34  t Jesus replied:
In your Scriptures doesn't God say, “You are gods”? 35 You can't argue with the Scriptures, and God spoke to those people and called them gods. 36 So why do you accuse me of a terrible sin for saying that I am the Son of God? After all, it is the Father who prepared me for this work. He is also the one who sent me into the world. 37 If I don't do as my Father does, you should not believe me.

38 But if I do what my Father does, you should believe because of that, even if you don't have faith in me. Then you will know for certain that the Father is one with me, and I am one with the Father.
39 Again they wanted to arrest Jesus. But he escaped 40 t and crossed the Jordan to the place where John had earlier been baptizing. While Jesus was there, 41 many people came to him. They were saying, “John didn't work any miracles, but everything he said about Jesus is true.” 42 A lot of those people also put their faith in Jesus.
