約翰福音 11

拉撒路的死

1 有一個患病的人，名叫拉撒路，住在伯大尼，就是馬利亞和她姐姐馬大的村莊。 2 這馬利亞就是那用香膏抹主，又用頭髮擦他腳的；患病的拉撒路是她的弟弟。 3 姊妹兩個就打發人去見耶穌，說：「主啊，你所愛的人病了。」 4 耶穌聽見後卻說：「這病不至於死，而是為了上帝的榮耀，為要使上帝的兒子藉此得榮耀。」 5 耶穌素來愛馬大和她妹妹，以及拉撒路。 6 他聽見拉撒路病了，仍在原地住了兩天， 7 然後對門徒說：「我們再到猶太去吧！」 8 門徒對他說：「拉比，猶太人近來要拿石頭打你，你還再到那裏去嗎？」 9 耶穌回答：「白天不是有十二小時嗎？人若在白天行走，就不致跌倒，因為他看見這世上的光。 10 人若在黑夜行走，就會跌倒，因為他沒有光。」 11 耶穌說了這些話，隨後對他們說：「我們的朋友拉撒路睡了，我去叫醒他。」 12 門徒就說：「主啊，他若睡了，就會好的。」 13 耶穌說這話是指拉撒路死了，他們卻以為他是指通常的睡眠。 14 於是耶穌就明白地告訴他們：「拉撒路死了。 15 為了你們的緣故，我不在那裏反而歡喜，為要使你們信。現在我們到他那裏去吧。」 16 於是那稱為低土馬的多馬對其他的門徒說：「我們也去和他同死吧！」

耶穌是復活，是生命

17 耶穌到了，知道拉撒路在墳墓裏已經四天了。 18 伯大尼離耶路撒冷不遠，約有六里t路。 19 有好些猶太人來看馬大和馬利亞，要為她們弟弟的緣故安慰她們。 20 馬大聽見耶穌來了，就出去迎接他；馬利亞卻仍然坐在家裏。 21 馬大對耶穌說：「主啊，你若早在這裏，我弟弟就不會死了。 22 我也知道，即使現在，你無論向上帝求甚麼，上帝也必賜給你。」 23 耶穌對她說：「你弟弟會復活的。」 24 馬大對他說：「我知道在末日復活的時候，他會復活。」 25 耶穌對她說：「復活在我，生命也在我t。信我的人雖然死了，也必復活； 26 凡活著信我的人必永遠不死。你信這話嗎？」 27 馬大對他說：「主啊，是的。我信你是基督，是上帝的兒子，就是那要臨到世界的。」

耶穌哭了

28  馬大說了這話就回去，叫她妹妹馬利亞，私下說：「老師來了，他在叫你。」 29 馬利亞聽見了，急忙起來，到耶穌那裏去。 30 那時，耶穌還沒有進村子，仍在馬大迎接他的地方。 31 那些同馬利亞在家裏安慰她的猶太人，見她急忙起來，出去，就跟著她，以為她要往墳墓那裏去哭。 32 馬利亞到了耶穌那裏，看見他，就俯伏在他腳前，對他說：「主啊，你若早在這裏，我弟弟就不會死了。」 33 耶穌看見她哭，並看見與她同來的猶太人也哭，就心裏悲嘆，又甚憂愁， 34 就說：「你們把他安放在哪裏？」他們對他說：「主啊，請你來看。」 35 耶穌哭了。 36 猶太人就說：「你看，他多麼愛他！」 37 其中有人說：「他既然開了盲人的眼睛，難道不能叫這人不死嗎？」

拉撒路復活

38 耶穌又心裏悲嘆，來到墳墓前。那墳墓是個穴，有一塊石頭擋著。 39 耶穌說：「把石頭挪開！」那死者的姐姐馬大對他說：「主啊，他現在必定臭了，因為他已經死了四天了。」 40 耶穌對她說：「我不是對你說過，你若信就必看見上帝的榮耀嗎？」 41 於是他們把石頭挪開。耶穌舉目望天，說：「父啊，我感謝你，因為你已經聽了我。 42 我知道你常常聽我，但我說這話是為了周圍站著的眾人，要使他們信是你差了我來的。」 43 說了這些話，他大聲呼叫說：「拉撒路，出來！」 44 那死了的人就出來了，手腳都裹著布，臉上包著頭巾。耶穌對他們說：「解開他，讓他走！」

殺害耶穌的陰謀

（太26．1－5；可14．1－2；路22．1－2）

45 於是來看馬利亞的猶太人中，有很多人見了耶穌所做的事，就信了他。 46 但其中也有人去見法利賽人，把耶穌所做的事告訴他們。 47 祭司長和法利賽人召開議會，說：「這人行好些神蹟，我們怎麼辦呢？ 48 若讓他這樣做，人人都要信他；羅馬人也要來毀滅我們的聖殿t和我們的民族。」 49 其中有一個人，名叫該亞法，那年當大祭司，對他們說：「你們甚麼都不知道， 50 也不想想，一個人替百姓死，免得整個民族滅亡，這對你們是有利的。」 51 他這話不是出於自己的意思，而是因他那年當大祭司，所以預言耶穌將為這民族而死。 52 他不但替這民族死，還要把上帝四散的兒女都聚集起來，合成一群。 53 從那日起，他們就商議要殺耶穌。

54 所以，耶穌不再公開在猶太人中走動，卻離開那裏，往靠近曠野的鄉間去，到了一座城，名叫以法蓮，就在那裏和門徒住下來。

55  猶太人的逾越節近了，有許多人從鄉下上耶路撒冷去，要在過節前潔淨自己。 56 於是他們尋找耶穌，站在聖殿裏彼此說：「你們認為怎樣，他不會來過節吧？」 57 那時，祭司長和法利賽人早已下令，若有人知道耶穌的下落，就要報告，他們好去捉拿他。

JOHN 11

The Death of Lazarus

1-2  t A man by the name of Lazarus was sick in the village of Bethany. He had two sisters, Mary and Martha. This was the same Mary who later poured perfume on the Lord's head and wiped his feet with her hair.

3 The sisters sent a message to the Lord and told him that his good friend Lazarus was sick.

4 When Jesus heard this, he said, “His sickness won't end in death. It will bring glory to God and his Son.”
5 Jesus loved Martha and her sister and brother. 6 But he stayed where he was for two more days.

7 Then he said to his disciples, “Now we will go back to Judea.”

8 “Teacher,” they said, “the people there want to stone you to death! Why do you want to go back?”
9 Jesus answered, “Aren't there twelve hours in each day? If you walk during the day, you will have light from the sun, and you won't stumble. 10 But if you walk during the night, you will stumble, because you don't have any light.”

11 Then he told them, “Our friend Lazarus is asleep, and I am going there to wake him up.”
12 They replied, “Lord, if he is asleep, he will get better.”

13 Jesus really meant that Lazarus was dead, but they thought he was talking only about sleep.
14 Then Jesus told them plainly, “Lazarus is dead!

15 I am glad I wasn't there, because now you will have a chance to put your faith in me. Let's go to him.”

16 Thomas, whose nickname was “Twin,” said to the other disciples, “Come on. Let's go, so we can die with him.”

Jesus Brings Lazarus to Life

17 When Jesus got to Bethany, he found that Lazarus had already been in the tomb four days. 18 Bethany was less than three kilometers from Jerusalem,

19 and many people had come from the city to comfort Martha and Mary because their brother had died.
20 When Martha heard that Jesus had arrived, she went out to meet him, but Mary stayed in the house. 21 Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.

22 Yet even now I know that God will do anything you ask.”

23 Jesus told her, “Your brother will live again!”

24  t Martha answered, “I know he will be raised to life on the last day, t when all the dead are raised.”
25 Jesus then said, “I am the one who raises the dead to life! Everyone who has faith in me will live, even if they die.

26 And everyone who lives because of faith in me will never really die. Do you believe this?”

27 “Yes, Lord!” she replied. “I believe you are the Christ, the Son of God. You are the one we hoped would come into the world.”
28 After Martha said this, she went and privately said to her sister Mary, “The Teacher is here, and he wants to see you.” 29 As soon as Mary heard this, she got up and went out to Jesus. 30 He was still outside the village where Martha had gone to meet him.

31 Many people had come to comfort Mary, and when they saw her quickly leave the house, they thought she was going out to the tomb to cry. So they followed her.

32 Mary went to where Jesus was. Then as soon as she saw him, she knelt at his feet and said, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.”
33 When Jesus saw that Mary and the people with her were crying, he was terribly upset

34 and asked, “Where have you put his body?”
They replied, “Lord, come and you will see.”
35 Jesus started crying,

36 and the people said, “See how much he loved Lazarus.”

37 Some of them said, “He gives sight to the blind. Why couldn't he have kept Lazarus from dying?”
38 Jesus was still terribly upset. So he went to the tomb, which was a cave with a stone rolled against the entrance.

39 Then he told the people to roll the stone away. But Martha said, “Lord, you know that Lazarus has been dead four days, and there will be a bad smell.”

40 Jesus replied, “Didn't I tell you that if you had faith, you would see the glory of God?”
41 After the stone had been rolled aside, Jesus looked up toward heaven and prayed, “Father, I thank you for answering my prayer.

42 I know that you always answer my prayers. But I said this, so the people here would believe you sent me.”
43 When Jesus had finished praying, he shouted, “Lazarus, come out!”

44 The man who had been dead came out. His hands and feet were wrapped with strips of burial cloth, and a cloth covered his face.
Jesus then told the people, “Untie him and let him go.”

The Plot To Kill Jesus

(Matthew 26.1-5; Mark 14.1,2; Luke 22.1,2)

45 Many of the people who had come to visit Mary saw the things Jesus did, and they put their faith in him. 46 Others went to the Pharisees and told what Jesus had done. 47 Then the chief priests and the Pharisees called the council together and said, “What should we do? This man is working a lot of miracles.t

48 If we don't stop him now, everyone will put their faith in him. Then the Romans will come and destroy our temple and our nation.”t
49 One of the council members was Caiaphas, who was also high priest that year. He spoke up and said, “You people don't have any sense at all! 50 Don't you know it is better for one person to die for the people than for the whole nation to be destroyed?” 51 Caiaphas did not say this on his own. As high priest that year, he was prophesying that Jesus would die for the nation. 52 Yet Jesus would not die just for the Jewish nation. He would die to bring together all of God's scattered people.

53 From that day on, the council started making plans to put Jesus to death.

54 Because of this plot against him, Jesus stopped going around in public. He went to the town of Ephraim, which was near the desert, and he stayed there with his disciples.
55 It was almost time for Passover. Many of the Jewish people who lived out in the country had come to Jerusalem to get themselves readyt for the festival.

56 They looked around for Jesus. Then when they were in the temple, they asked each other, “You don't think he will come here for Passover, do you?”
57 The chief priests and the Pharisees told the people to let them know if any of them saw Jesus. This is how they hoped to arrest him.
