拉撒路的死

1 有一个患病的人，名叫拉撒路，住在伯大尼，就是马利亚和她姐姐马大的村庄。 2 这马利亚就是那用香膏抹主，又用头发擦他脚的；患病的拉撒路是她的弟弟。 3 姊妹两个就打发人去见耶稣，说：“主啊，你所爱的人病了。” 4 耶稣听见后却说：“这病不至于死，而是为了上帝的荣耀，为要使上帝的儿子藉此得荣耀。” 5 耶稣素来爱马大和她妹妹，以及拉撒路。 6 他听见拉撒路病了，仍在原地住了两天， 7 然后对门徒说：“我们再到犹太去吧！” 8 门徒对他说：“拉比，犹太人近来要拿石头打你，你还再到那里去吗？” 9 耶稣回答：“白天不是有十二小时吗？人若在白天行走，就不致跌倒，因为他看见这世上的光。 10 人若在黑夜行走，就会跌倒，因为他没有光。” 11 耶稣说了这些话，随后对他们说：“我们的朋友拉撒路睡了，我去叫醒他。” 12 门徒就说：“主啊，他若睡了，就会好的。” 13 耶稣说这话是指拉撒路死了，他们却以为他是指通常的睡眠。 14 于是耶稣就明白地告诉他们：“拉撒路死了。 15 为了你们的缘故，我不在那里反而欢喜，为要使你们信。现在我们到他那里去吧。” 16 于是那称为低土马的多马对其他的门徒说：“我们也去和他同死吧！”

耶稣是复活，是生命

17 耶稣到了，知道拉撒路在坟墓里已经四天了。 18 伯大尼离耶路撒冷不远，约有六里t路。 19 有好些犹太人来看马大和马利亚，要为她们弟弟的缘故安慰她们。 20 马大听见耶稣来了，就出去迎接他；马利亚却仍然坐在家里。 21 马大对耶稣说：“主啊，你若早在这里，我弟弟就不会死了。 22 我也知道，即使现在，你无论向上帝求什么，上帝也必赐给你。” 23 耶稣对她说：“你弟弟会复活的。” 24 马大对他说：“我知道在末日复活的时候，他会复活。” 25 耶稣对她说：“复活...也在我t。信我的人虽然死了，也必复活； 26 凡活着信我的人必永远不死。你信这话吗？” 27 马大对他说：“主啊，是的。我信你是基督，是上帝的儿子，就是那要临到世界的。”

耶稣哭了

28  马大说了这话就回去，叫她妹妹马利亚，私下说：“老师来了，他在叫你。” 29 马利亚听见了，急忙起来，到耶稣那里去。 30 那时，耶稣还没有进村子，仍在马大迎接他的地方。 31 那些同马利亚在家里安慰她的犹太人，见她急忙起来，出去，就跟着她，以为她要往坟墓那里去哭。 32 马利亚到了耶稣那里，看见他，就俯伏在他脚前，对他说：“主啊，你若早在这里，我弟弟就不会死了。” 33 耶稣看见她哭，并看见与她同来的犹太人也哭，就心里悲叹，又甚忧愁， 34 就说：“你们把他安放在哪里？”他们对他说：“主啊，请你来看。” 35 耶稣哭了。 36 犹太人就说：“你看，他多么爱他！” 37 其中有人说：“他既然开了盲人的眼睛，难道不能叫这人不死吗？”

拉撒路复活

38 耶稣又心里悲叹，来到坟墓前。那坟墓是个穴，有一块石头挡着。 39 耶稣说：“把石头挪开！”那死者的姐姐马大对他说：“主啊，他现在必定臭了，因为他已经死了四天了。” 40 耶稣对她说：“我不是对你说过，你若信就必看见上帝的荣耀吗？” 41 于是他们把石头挪开。耶稣举目望天，说：“父啊，我感谢你，因为你已经听了我。 42 我知道你常常听我，但我说这话是为了周围站着的众人，要使他们信是你差了我来的。” 43 说了这些话，他大声呼叫说：“拉撒路，出来！” 44 那死了的人就出来了，手脚都裹着布，脸上包着头巾。耶稣对他们说：“解开他，让他走！”

杀害耶稣的阴谋

（太26．1－5；可14．1－2；路22．1－2）

45 于是来看马利亚的犹太人中，有很多人见了耶稣所做的事，就信了他。 46 但其中也有人去见法利赛人，把耶稣所做的事告诉他们。 47 祭司长和法利赛人召开议会，说：“这人行好些神迹，我们怎么办呢？ 48 若让他这样做，人人都要信他；罗马人也要来毁灭我们的圣殿t和我们的民族。” 49 其中有一个人，名叫该亚法，那年当大祭司，对他们说：“你们什么都不知道， 50 也不想想，一个人替百姓死，免得整个民族灭亡，这对你们是有利的。” 51 他这话不是出于自己的意思，而是因他那年当大祭司，所以预言耶稣将为这民族而死。 52 他不但替这民族死，还要把上帝四散的儿女都聚集起来，合成一群。 53 从那日起，他们就商议要杀耶稣。

54 所以，耶稣不再公开在犹太人中走动，却离开那里，往靠近旷野的乡间去，到了一座城，名叫以法莲，就在那里和门徒住下来。

55  犹太人的逾越节近了，有许多人从乡下上耶路撒冷去，要在过节前洁净自己。 56 于是他们寻找耶稣，站在圣殿里彼此说：“你们认为怎样，他不会来过节吧？” 57 那时，祭司长和法利赛人早已下令，若有人知道耶稣的下落，就要报告，他们好去捉拿他。

JOHN 11

The Death of Lazarus

1-2  t A man by the name of Lazarus was sick in the village of Bethany. He had two sisters, Mary and Martha. This was the same Mary who later poured perfume on the Lord's head and wiped his feet with her hair.

3 The sisters sent a message to the Lord and told him that his good friend Lazarus was sick.

4 When Jesus heard this, he said, “His sickness won't end in death. It will bring glory to God and his Son.”
5 Jesus loved Martha and her sister and brother. 6 But he stayed where he was for two more days.

7 Then he said to his disciples, “Now we will go back to Judea.”

8 “Teacher,” they said, “the people there want to stone you to death! Why do you want to go back?”
9 Jesus answered, “Aren't there twelve hours in each day? If you walk during the day, you will have light from the sun, and you won't stumble. 10 But if you walk during the night, you will stumble, because you don't have any light.”

11 Then he told them, “Our friend Lazarus is asleep, and I am going there to wake him up.”
12 They replied, “Lord, if he is asleep, he will get better.”

13 Jesus really meant that Lazarus was dead, but they thought he was talking only about sleep.
14 Then Jesus told them plainly, “Lazarus is dead!

15 I am glad I wasn't there, because now you will have a chance to put your faith in me. Let's go to him.”

16 Thomas, whose nickname was “Twin,” said to the other disciples, “Come on. Let's go, so we can die with him.”

Jesus Brings Lazarus to Life

17 When Jesus got to Bethany, he found that Lazarus had already been in the tomb four days. 18 Bethany was less than three kilometers from Jerusalem,

19 and many people had come from the city to comfort Martha and Mary because their brother had died.
20 When Martha heard that Jesus had arrived, she went out to meet him, but Mary stayed in the house. 21 Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.

22 Yet even now I know that God will do anything you ask.”

23 Jesus told her, “Your brother will live again!”

24  t Martha answered, “I know he will be raised to life on the last day, t when all the dead are raised.”
25 Jesus then said, “I am the one who raises the dead to life! Everyone who has faith in me will live, even if they die.

26 And everyone who lives because of faith in me will never really die. Do you believe this?”

27 “Yes, Lord!” she replied. “I believe you are the Christ, the Son of God. You are the one we hoped would come into the world.”
28 After Martha said this, she went and privately said to her sister Mary, “The Teacher is here, and he wants to see you.” 29 As soon as Mary heard this, she got up and went out to Jesus. 30 He was still outside the village where Martha had gone to meet him.

31 Many people had come to comfort Mary, and when they saw her quickly leave the house, they thought she was going out to the tomb to cry. So they followed her.

32 Mary went to where Jesus was. Then as soon as she saw him, she knelt at his feet and said, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.”
33 When Jesus saw that Mary and the people with her were crying, he was terribly upset

34 and asked, “Where have you put his body?”
They replied, “Lord, come and you will see.”
35 Jesus started crying,

36 and the people said, “See how much he loved Lazarus.”

37 Some of them said, “He gives sight to the blind. Why couldn't he have kept Lazarus from dying?”
38 Jesus was still terribly upset. So he went to the tomb, which was a cave with a stone rolled against the entrance.

39 Then he told the people to roll the stone away. But Martha said, “Lord, you know that Lazarus has been dead four days, and there will be a bad smell.”

40 Jesus replied, “Didn't I tell you that if you had faith, you would see the glory of God?”
41 After the stone had been rolled aside, Jesus looked up toward heaven and prayed, “Father, I thank you for answering my prayer.

42 I know that you always answer my prayers. But I said this, so the people here would believe you sent me.”
43 When Jesus had finished praying, he shouted, “Lazarus, come out!”

44 The man who had been dead came out. His hands and feet were wrapped with strips of burial cloth, and a cloth covered his face.
Jesus then told the people, “Untie him and let him go.”

The Plot To Kill Jesus

(Matthew 26.1-5; Mark 14.1,2; Luke 22.1,2)

45 Many of the people who had come to visit Mary saw the things Jesus did, and they put their faith in him. 46 Others went to the Pharisees and told what Jesus had done. 47 Then the chief priests and the Pharisees called the council together and said, “What should we do? This man is working a lot of miracles.t

48 If we don't stop him now, everyone will put their faith in him. Then the Romans will come and destroy our temple and our nation.”t
49 One of the council members was Caiaphas, who was also high priest that year. He spoke up and said, “You people don't have any sense at all! 50 Don't you know it is better for one person to die for the people than for the whole nation to be destroyed?” 51 Caiaphas did not say this on his own. As high priest that year, he was prophesying that Jesus would die for the nation. 52 Yet Jesus would not die just for the Jewish nation. He would die to bring together all of God's scattered people.

53 From that day on, the council started making plans to put Jesus to death.

54 Because of this plot against him, Jesus stopped going around in public. He went to the town of Ephraim, which was near the desert, and he stayed there with his disciples.
55 It was almost time for Passover. Many of the Jewish people who lived out in the country had come to Jerusalem to get themselves readyt for the festival.

56 They looked around for Jesus. Then when they were in the temple, they asked each other, “You don't think he will come here for Passover, do you?”
57 The chief priests and the Pharisees told the people to let them know if any of them saw Jesus. This is how they hoped to arrest him.
