一二

1 　過越の祭りの始まる六日前に、イエスはベタニヤにお着きになりました。　いつか生き返らせてやった、あのラザロがいる村です。　2 さっそく晩餐が用意されました。　マルタは給仕にいとまがありません。　ラザロはイエスといっしょに食卓に着いています。　3 そこへマリヤが、香油のつぼを手に、入って来ました。　それは、ナルドから作った純粋な香油で、とても高価なものです。　マリヤはイエスのそばに歩み寄ると、驚いたことに、その香油をイエスの足に注いだのです。　それから、ていねいに髪でぬぐいました。　たちまち家中にすばらしい香りがたちこめました。
4 　ところが、弟子の一人で、イエスを裏切ろうとしていたイスカリオテのユダが、非難がましく言いました。　5 「やれやれ、この香油はひと財産ものだよ。　売って、その代金を貧しい人たちに恵んでやればよさそうなものなのに。　全くもったいない話だ。」　6 こう言ったのは、貧しい人たちのことを心にかけていたからではありません。　仲間の会計をいっさい任されているのをいいことに、使い込みを重ねていたからです。
7 　イエスはお答えになりました。　「したいようにさせておきなさい。　マリヤは、わたしの葬りの準備をしてくれたのです。　8 貧しい人たちは、いつでも助けてあげられます。　だが、わたしはもう、それほど長くいっしょにはいられないのですから。」
9 　エルサレムの市民は、イエスがおられると聞いて、どっとラザロの家に押しかけました。　イエスに会うためばかりではありません。　一度死んで生き返ったラザロを、一目見たいとも思ったのです。　10 これには、祭司長たちも頭をかかえ込み、いっそのことラザロも殺してしまおうと相談しました。　11 ラザロのことで、大ぜいのユダヤ人がユダヤ教から離れ去り、イエスをメシヤ（救い主）と信じるようになったからです。

12 　翌日、イエスがエルサレムに向かわれるというニュースが町中に広まりました。　過越の祭りで上京した人々は、　13 「それ、イエス様をお迎えしろ」と、手に手にしゅろの枝を振りかざして駆けつけます。　沿道はたちまち人の波、波、波......。　あちこちで大歓声が上がります。
「救い主様ーっ！
イスラエルの王様ばんざーいっ！
神の大使ばんざーいっ！」
14 　イエスはろばの子に乗っておられました。　こうして、預言どおりのことが起こったのです。
15 　「イスラエルの民よ。
あなたがたの王を恐れるな。
王は柔和で、ろばの子に乗って、
来られるのだから。」
16 　〔この時、弟子たちにはまだ、この出来事が預言どおりに起こったとは、思えませんでした。　しかし、イエスが天にある栄光の座に帰られたあと、「そういえば、あの事も聖書にあるとおりだった。　この事も預言どおりだった」と、一つ一つ思い当たることばかりでした。〕
17 　群衆の中には、イエスがラザロを生き返らせる現場を目撃した人たちの顔もちらほら見られます。　彼らは事件の一部始終をふれ回っていました。　18 こんなに大ぜいの人がイエスを出迎えたのも、実を言えば、そのすばらしい奇蹟のことを聞いたからなのです。
19 　この有様に、パリサイ人たちは、とうとうやけを起こしてしまいました。　「なんてことだっ！　見ろ。　みんな、あいつについて行ったじゃないかっ！」
20 　さて、過越の祭りに加わろうと、エルサレムに来ていた数人のギリシヤ人が、　21 ベツサイダ出身のピリポのところへ来て、「先生。ぜひともイエス様にお会いしたいのですが」と頼み込みました。　22 ピリポはアンデレにそのことを話し、二人でお願いしようということになりました。
23 　イエスはお答えになりました。　「いよいよ、わたしが天にある栄光の座に帰る時が来たのです。　24 よく言っておきます。　畑にまかれる一粒の麦のように、わたしも地に落ちて死ななければなりません。　そうしなければ、いつまでたっても、一人のまま、一粒の種のままです。　だが、死ねば、多くの新しい実が生じ、新しいいのちが豊かに実を結ぶことになります。　25 この地上のいのちを愛するなら、結局はそれを失うだけです。　しかし、地上のいのちに執着しなければ、代わりに永遠の栄光を受けるのです。
26 　わたしの弟子になりたい者は、ついて来なさい。　わたしに仕える者は、わたしのいる所にいなければならないのですから。　わたしに従う者を、父は重んじてくださるのです。　27 だが、今いったい、わたしはどうしたらいいのでしょうか......。　『父よ。　行く手に待ちかまえていることからお救いください』と祈るべきでしょうか。　ああ、だが、このために、このためにこそ、わたしは来たのです......。　28 父よ。　どうぞあなたの栄光を現わし、あなたの名が、あがめられるようにしてください！」
その時、天から声が聞こえました。　「わたしはすでにそうしたし、また、もう一度そうしよう。」
29 　この声を聞いた群衆はかってに想像をめぐらし、「雷が鳴ったのだ」と思う者もあれば、「御使いが語りかけたのだ」と言いはる者もいるというしまつでした。
30 　そこで、イエスは群衆に言われました。　「この声が聞こえたのは、わたしのためではありません。　あなたがたのためです。　31 さばきの時が来ています。　この世の支配者サタンは追い出されるのです。　32 わたしは十字架の上に上げられる時、すべての人をわたしのもとに引き寄せましょう。」　33 こう言われたのは、自分がどのような死に方をするかを示されるためでした。
34 　「あなた様が死ぬですって？　メシヤ（救い主）様は永遠に生きていて、絶対に死んだりなさらないものと思っておりましたのに。　どうして、そんなことをおっしゃるのです？　いったいどんなメシヤ様のことを言っておられるのですか。」
35 　「もうほんのしばらくの間、わたしの光はあなたがたのために輝いています。　光のある間に光の中を歩きなさい。　暗やみが襲って来る前に、行こうと思う所に行きなさい。　襲って来てからでは遅すぎます。　道を見つけることもできません。　36 まだ時間のある間に、光を十分に用いなさい。　そうすれば、光の子になれるのです。」イエスは、こう話し終えられると、そこを立ち去り、身を隠されました。
37 　ところが、イエスがあれほど多くの奇蹟をなさったにもかかわらず、大部分の人は、イエスをメシヤとは信じませんでした。　38 まさに、イザヤが預言したとおりです。　「主よ。　だれが私たちのことばを信じるのですか。　だれが、神様の力強い奇蹟を、証拠と認めるのですか。」　39 人々は信じることができませんでした。　イザヤは次のようにも言っています。　40 「神は彼らの目を盲目に、心をかたくなにされた。　彼らが見ることも、理解することも、わたしのもとに立ち返っていやされることもないためだ。」　41 この預言は、イエスのことを指しています。　イザヤは、メシヤの栄光の幻を見て預言したからです。
42 　それでも、だれも信じなかったというわけではありません。　ユダヤ人の指導者の中にさえ、イエスをメシヤと信じる者がかなりいました。　ただ、パリサイ人たちに会堂から除名されるのがこわくて、そのことを打ち明ける気になれなかったのです。　43 神にほめていただくことよりも、人にほめられることのほうを重んじたからです。
44 　イエスは大声で、群衆に語りかけました。　「わたしを信じて任せきる人は、ほんとうの意味で神を信じているのです。　45 わたしを見るのは、わたしをお遣わしになった方を見るのと同じだからです。　46 わたしは、この暗い世に輝く光として来ました。　わたしを信じる人がだれも、もはや暗やみの中をさまようことのないためです。　47 わたしのことばを聞きながら従おうとしない人がいても、あえてさばきはしません。　わたしが来たのは、世の人々を救うためで、さばくためではないからです。　48 しかし、わたしを退け、わたしの言うことを受け入れないすべての人をさばくものがあります。　わたしの語った真理が、終わりのさばきの日に、その人をさばくのです。　49 その真理は、わたしがかってに考え出したことではなく、父が語れとお命じになったことだからです。　50 神の命令は、人を永遠のいのちに導きます。　だから、神が語れと言われたことを、何でもそのとおり語っているのです。」イエス、弟子の足を洗う

John 12

1 Jesus therefore six days before the passover came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, whom Jesus raised from the dead.2 So they made him a supper there: and Martha served; but Lazarus was one of them that sat at meat with him.3 Mary therefore took a pound of ointment of pure nard, very precious, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odor of the ointment.4 But Judas Iscariot, one of his disciples, that should betray him, saith,5 Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred shillings, and given to the poor?6 Now this he said, not because he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and having the bag took away what was put therein.7 Jesus therefore said, Suffer her to keep it against the day of my burying.8 For the poor ye have always with you; but me ye have not always.9 The common people therefore of the Jews learned that he was there: and they came, not for Jesus’ sake only, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead.10 But the chief priests took counsel that they might put Lazarus also to death;11 because that by reason of him many of the Jews went away, and believed on Jesus.12 On the morrow a great multitude that had come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,13 took the branches of the palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried out, Hosanna: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel.14 And Jesus, having found a young ass, sat thereon; as it is written,15 Fear not, daughter of Zion: behold, thy King cometh, sitting on an ass’s colt.16 These things understood not his disciples at the first: but when Jesus was glorified, then remembered they that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things unto him.17 The multitude therefore that was with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb, and raised him from the dead, bare witness.18 For this cause also the multitude went and met him, for that they heard that he had done this sign.19 The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, Behold how ye prevail nothing: lo, the world is gone after him.20 Now there were certain Greeks among those that went up to worship at the feast:21 these therefore came to Philip, who was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and asked him, saying, Sir, we would see Jesus.22 Philip cometh and telleth Andrew: Andrew cometh, and Philip, and they tell Jesus.23 And Jesus answereth them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified.24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a grain of wheat fall into the earth and die, it abideth by itself alone; but if it die, it beareth much fruit.25 He that loveth his life loseth it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.26 If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will the Father honor.27 Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour. But for this cause came I unto this hour.28 Father, glorify thy name. There came therefore a voice out of heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.29 The multitude therefore, that stood by, and heard it, said that it had thundered: others said, An angel hath spoken to him.30 Jesus answered and said, This voice hath not come for my sake, but for your sakes.31 Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.32 And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto myself.33 But this he said, signifying by what manner of death he should die.34 The multitude therefore answered him, We have heard out of the law that the Christ abideth for ever: and how sayest thou, The Son of man must be lifted up? who is this Son of man?35 Jesus therefore said unto them, Yet a little while is the light among you. Walk while ye have the light, that darkness overtake you not: and he that walketh in the darkness knoweth not whither he goeth.36 While ye have the light, believe on the light, that ye may become sons of light. These things spake Jesus, and he departed and hid himself from them.37 But though he had done so many signs before them, yet they believed not on him:38 that the word of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spake, Lord, who hath believed our report? And to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed?

39 For this cause they could not believe, for that Isaiah said again,

40 He hath blinded their eyes, and he hardened their heart; Lest they should see with their eyes, and perceive with their heart, And should turn, And I should heal them.

41 These things said Isaiah, because he saw his glory; and he spake of him.42 Nevertheless even of the rulers many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess it, lest they should be put out of the synagogue:43 for they loved the glory that is of men more than the glory that is of God.44 And Jesus cried and said, He that believeth on me, believeth not on me, but on him that sent me.45 And he that beholdeth me beholdeth him that sent me.46 I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me may not abide in the darkness.47 And if any man hear my sayings, and keep them not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.48 He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my sayings, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I spake, the same shall judge him in the last day.49 For I spake not from myself; but the Father that sent me, he hath given me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.50 And I know that his commandment is life eternal: the things therefore which I speak, even as the Father hath said unto me, so I speak.
