II. JESÚS REGRESA AL PADRE (13–21)
1. La última cena (13–17)
Jesús lava los pies a sus discípulos
1 Era la víspera de la fiesta de la Pascua.t Jesús sabía que le había llegado la horat de dejar este mundo para ir a reunirse con el Padre. Él siempre había amado a los suyos que estaban en el mundo, y así los amó hasta el fin.t
2-4 El diablo ya había metido en el corazón de Judas, hijo de Simón Iscariote, la idea de traicionar a Jesús. Durante la cena,t Jesús, sabiendo que había venido de Dios, que volvía a Diost y que el Padre le había dado toda autoridad,t se levantó de la mesa, se quitó la ropa exterior y se puso una toalla a la cintura.
5 Luego vertió agua en una palangana y comenzó a lavar los pies de los discípulost y a secárselos con la toalla que llevaba a la cintura.
6 Cuando iba a lavar los pies a Simón Pedro, este le dijo:
–Señor, ¿vas tú a lavarme los pies?
7 Jesús le contestó:
–Ahora no entiendes lo que estoy haciendo, pero más tarde lo entenderás.
8 Pedro dijo:
–¡Jamás permitiré que me laves los pies!
Respondió Jesús:
–Si no te los lavo no podrás ser de los míos.
9 Simón Pedro le dijo:
–¡Entonces, Señor, no solo los pies, sino también las manos y la cabeza!t
10 Pero Jesús le respondió:
–El que está recién bañado no necesita lavarse más que los pies,t porque todo él está limpio. Y vosotros estáis limpios,t aunque no todos.
11 Dijo: “No estáis limpios todos”, porque sabía quién le iba a traicionar.
12 Después de lavarles los pies, Jesús volvió a ponerse la ropa exterior, se sentó de nuevo a la mesa y les dijo:
–¿Entendéis lo que os he hecho? 13 Vosotros me llamáis Maestro y Señor, y tenéis razón porque lo soy. 14 Pues si yo, el Maestro y Señor, os he lavado los pies, también vosotros debéis lavaros los pies unos a otros.t 15 Os he dado un ejemplo para que vosotros hagáis lo mismo que yo os he hecho.t 16 Os aseguro que ningún sirviente es más que su señort y ningún enviado es más que el que lo envía.
17 Dichosos vosotros, si entendéis estas cosas y las ponéis en práctica.
18 “No me estoy refiriendo a todos vosotros: yo sé a quiénes he escogido. Pero tiene que cumplirse lo que dice la Escritura: ‘El que come conmigo se ha vuelto contra mí.’t 19 Os digo esto de antemano, para que, cuando suceda, creáis que yo soy.t
20 Os aseguro que quien recibe al que yo envío me recibe a mí, y quien me recibe a mí recibe al que me ha enviado.”tJesús anuncia la traición de Judas

21 Habiendo dicho estas cosas, Jesús, profundamente conmovido, añadió con toda claridad:
–Os aseguro que uno de vosotros me va a traicionar.
22 Los discípulos comenzaron a mirarse unos a otros, sin saber a quién se refería. 23 Uno de sus discípulos, al que Jesús quería mucho,t estaba cenando junto a él,t 24 y Simón Pedro le hizo señas para que le preguntara a quién se refería.
25 Él, acercándose más a Jesús, le preguntó:
–Señor, ¿quién es?
26 –Voy a mojar un trozo de pan –le contestó Jesús–, y a quien se lo dé, ese es.
En seguida mojó un trozo de pan y se lo dio a Judas, hijo de Simón Iscariote.
27 Tan pronto como Judas tomó el pan, Satanás entró en su corazón. Jesús le dijo:
–Lo que vas a hacer, hazlo pronto.
28 Pero ninguno de los que estaban cenando a la mesa entendió por qué se lo había dicho.
29 Como Judas era el encargado de la bolsa del dinero, algunos pensaron que Jesús le decía que comprara algo para la fiesta o que diera algo a los pobres.
30 Judas tomó aquel trozo de pan y salió en seguida. Ya era de noche.El nuevo mandamiento
31 Después de haber salido Judas, Jesús dijo:
–Ahora se manifiesta la gloria del Hijo del hombre,t y la gloria de Dios se manifiesta en él.t 32 Y si él manifiesta la gloria de Dios, también Dios manifestará la gloria del Hijo del hombre. Y lo hará pronto. 33 Hijitos míos, ya no estaré mucho tiempo con vosotros. Me buscaréis, pero lo mismo que dije a los judíos os digo ahora a vosotros: No podréis ir a donde yo voy.t 34 Os doy este mandamiento nuevo: Que os améis los unos a los otros. Así como yo os amo,t debéis también amaros los unos a los otros.
35 Si os amáis los unos a los otros, todo el mundo conocerá que sois mis discípulos.tJesús anuncia la negación de Pedro

36 Simón Pedro preguntó a Jesús:
–Señor, ¿a dónde vas?
–A donde yo voy –le contestó Jesús– no puedes seguirme ahora, pero me seguirás después.t
37 Pedro le dijo:
–Señor, ¿por qué no puedo seguirte ahora? ¡Estoy dispuesto a dar mi vida por ti!
38 Jesús le respondió:
–¿De veras estás dispuesto a dar tu vida por mí? Pues te aseguro que antes que cante el gallo me negarás tres veces.t

Washing the Disciples’ Feet
1 Just before the Passover feast, Jesus knew that his timet had come to departt from this world to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he now loved them to the very end.ts2 The evening mealt was in progress, and the devil had already put into the hearts of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, that he should betrayt Jesus.t3 Because Jesust knew that the Father had handed all things over to him,t and that he had come from God and was going back to God,4 he got up from the meal, removedt his outer clothes,t took a towel and tied it around himself.t
5 He poured water into the washbasin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to dry them with the towel he had wrapped around himself.t
6 Then he came to Simon Peter. Petert said to him, “Lord, are you going to washt my feet?”7 Jesus replied,t “You do not understandt what I am doing now, but you will understandt after these things.”8 Peter said to him, “You will never wash my feet!”t Jesus replied,t “If I do not wash you, you have no share with me.”t9 Simon Peter said to him, “Lord, washt not only my feet, but also my hands and my head!”10 Jesus replied,t “The one who has bathed needs only to wash his feet,t but is completelyt clean.s And you disciplest are clean, but not every one of you.”
11 (For Jesust knew the one who was going to betray him. For this reason he said, “Not every one of you ist clean.”)s
12 So when Jesust had washed their feet and put his outer clothing back on, he took his place at the tablet again and said to them, “Do you understandt what I have done for you?13 You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and do so correctly,t for that is what I am.t14 If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you too ought to wash one another’s feet.15 For I have given you an examples – you should do just as I have done for you.16 I tell you the solemn truth,t the slavet is not greater than his master, nor is the one who is sent as a messengert greater than the one who sent him.
17 If you understandt these things, you will be blessed if you do them.
The Announcement of Jesus’ Betrayal
18 “What I am saying does not refer to all of you. I know the ones I have chosen. But this is to fulfill the scripture,t ‘The one who eats my breadthas turned against me.’ts19 I am telling you this now,t before it happens, so that when it happens you may believet that I am he.t
20 I tell you the solemn truth,t whoever acceptst the one I send accepts me, and whoever accepts me accepts the one who sent me.”s
21 When he had said these things, Jesus was greatly distressedt in spirit, and testified,t “I tell you the solemn truth,t one of you will betray me.”t22 The disciples began to look at one another, worried and perplexedt to know which of them he was talking about.23 One of his disciples, the one Jesus loved,s was at the tablet to the right of Jesus in a place of honor.ts24 So Simon Peters gestured to this disciplet to ask Jesust who it was he was referring to.s25 Then the disciple whom Jesus lovedt leaned back against Jesus’ chest and asked him, “Lord, who is it?”26 Jesus replied,t “It is the one to whom I will give this piece of breads after I have dipped it in the dish.”t Then he dipped the piece of bread in the disht and gave it to Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son.27 And after Judast took the piece of bread, Satan entered into him.ts Jesus said to him,t “What you are about to do, do quickly.”28 (Now none of those present at the tablet understoodt why Jesust said this to Judas.t29 Some thought that, because Judas had the money box, Jesus was telling him to buy whatever they needed for the feast,t or to give something to the poor.)s
30 Judast took the piece of bread and went out immediately. (Now it was night.)s
The Prediction of Peter’s Denial
31 Whent Judast had gone out, Jesus said, “Now the Son of Man is glorified, and God is glorified in him.32 If God is glorified in him,s God will also glorify him in himself, and he will glorify him right away.t
33 Children, I am still with you for a little while. You will look for me,t and just as I said to the Jewish religious leaders,t ‘Where I am going you cannot come,’s now I tell you the same.t
34 “I give you a new commandment – to lovet one another. Just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.s
35 Everyonet will know by this that you are my disciples – if you have love for one another.”
36 Simon Peter said to him, “Lord, where are you going?” Jesus replied,t “Where I am going, you cannot follow me now, but you will follow later.”37 Peter said to him, “Lord, why can’t I follow you now? I will lay down my life for you!”t
38 Jesus answered, “Will you lay down your life for me?t I tell you the solemn truth,t the rooster will not crow until you have denied me three times!
