Jesus dient seinen Jüngern

1 tAm Vorabend des Passahfestes wusste Jesus, dass nun die Zeit gekommen war, diese Welt zu verlassen und zum Vater zurückzukehren. Er hatte die Menschen geliebt, die zu ihm gehörten, und er hörte nicht auf, sie zu lieben.2 tAn diesem Abend aß Jesus zusammen mit seinen Jüngern. Der Teufel hatte Judas, den Sohn von Simon Iskariot, schon zum Verrat an Jesus verführt.3 tJesus aber wusste, dass der Vater ihm alles in die Hand gegeben hatte, dass er von Gott gekommen war und zu ihm zurückkehren würde.4 tDa stand er vom Tisch auf, legte sein Obergewand ab und band sich ein Tuch aus Leinen um.5 Er goss Wasser in eine Schüssel und begann, seinen Jüngern die Füße zu waschen und mit dem Tuch abzutrocknen.

6 tAls er zu Simon Petrus kam, wehrte dieser ab: »Herr, wie kommst du dazu, mir die Füße zu waschen!«7 Jesus antwortete ihm: »Das verstehst du jetzt noch nicht. Aber später wirst du es verstehen.«8 Doch Petrus blieb dabei: »Niemals sollst du mir die Füße waschen!« Worauf Jesus erwiderte: »Wenn ich dir nicht die Füße wasche, gehörst du nicht zu mir.«9 Da sagte Petrus: »Herr, dann wasch mir nicht nur die Füße, sondern auch die Hände und das Gesicht!«10 tJesus antwortete: »Wer gebadet hat, der ist ganz rein. Ihm braucht man nur noch den Straßenstaub von den Füßen zu waschen. Ihr seid alle rein - außer einem.«11 tJesus wusste nämlich, wer ihn verraten würde. Deshalb sagte er: »Ihr seid nicht alle rein.«

12 Nachdem Jesus ihnen die Füße gewaschen hatte, zog er sein Obergewand wieder an, kehrte zu seinem Platz am Tisch zurück und fragte seine Jünger: »Versteht ihr, was ich eben getan habe?13 tIhr nennt mich Meister und Herr. Das ist auch richtig so, denn ich bin es.14 tWie ich, euer Meister und Herr, euch jetzt die Füße gewaschen habe, so sollt auch ihr euch gegenseitig die Füße waschen.15 Ich habe euch damit ein Beispiel gegeben, dem ihr folgen sollt. Handelt ebenso!16 Ich sage euch die Wahrheit: Ein Diener steht niemals höher als sein Herr, und ein Botschafter untersteht dem, der ihn gesandt hat.17 Wenn ihr das begreift und danach handelt, wird man euch glücklich schätzen.

18 Jetzt spreche ich nicht von euch allen; denn ich weiß, welche ich als meine Jünger ausgewählt habe. Aber was in der Heiligen Schrift vorausgesagt ist, muss sich erfüllen: ›Einer, der mit mir zusammen das Brot isst, tritt mich mit Füßen.‹t19 tSchon jetzt kündige ich es euch an, damit ihr auch dann, wenn es geschieht, ganz sicher wisst: Ich bin der, den Gott gesandt hat.20 tIch sage euch die Wahrheit: Wer einen Menschen aufnimmt, den ich senden werde, der nimmt mich auf. Und wer mich aufnimmt, der nimmt den Vater auf, der mich gesandt hat.«

»Einer von euch wird mich verraten«

Nachdem Jesus dies gesagt hatte, war er sehr erschüttert und bestätigte: »Ja, es ist wahr: Einer von euch wird mich verraten!«22 Die Jünger sahen sich fragend an und rätselten, wen er meinte.

23 tGanz nah bei Jesus hatte der Jünger seinen Platz, den Jesus am meisten liebte.24 Petrus winkte ihn zur Seite und sagte: »Frag du ihn, wen er meint!«25 Da beugte der Jünger sich zu Jesus hinüber und fragte leise: »Herr, wer von uns ist es?«

26 Jesus antwortete ihm: »Es ist der, dem ich das Brot geben werde, das ich jetzt in die Schüssel eintauche.«
Darauf tauchte er das Brot ein und gab es Judas, dem Sohn des Simon Iskariot.27 Von diesem Augenblick an hatte Satan den Judas ganz in seiner Gewalt. »Beeil dich, Judas! Erledige bald, was du tun willst!«, forderte Jesus ihn auf.

28 Keiner von den anderen am Tisch verstand, was Jesus mit diesen Worten meinte.29 tManche dachten, Jesus hätte Judas hinausgeschickt, um alles Nötige für das Fest einzukaufen oder den Armen etwas zu geben. Denn Judas verwaltete das Geld Jesu und seiner Jünger.30 Nachdem Judas das Brot genommen hatte, eilte er hinaus in die Nacht.

Das neue Gebot der Liebe

31 Als Judas fort war, sagte Jesus: »Jetzt zeigt Gott, wer der Menschensohn wirklich ist, und dadurch wird auch die Herrlichkeit Gottes sichtbar.32 tWenn der Menschensohn erst Gottes Herrlichkeit gezeigt hat, dann wird auch Gott die Herrlichkeit des Menschensohnes sichtbar machen. Und das geschieht bald!33 tDenn bei euch, meine lieben Kinder, werde ich nur noch kurze Zeit sein. Ihr werdet mich suchen. Doch was ich den Juden gesagt habe, muss ich jetzt auch euch sagen: Wohin ich gehen werde, dahin könnt ihr mir nicht folgen.34 ttHeute gebe ich euch ein neues Gebot: Liebt einander! So wie ich euch geliebt habe, so sollt ihr euch auch untereinander lieben.35 An eurer Liebe zueinander wird jeder erkennen, dass ihr meine Jünger seid.«

Jesus kündigt die Verleugnung des Petrus an

tDa fragte ihn Petrus: »Herr, wohin gehst du?« Jesus antwortete ihm: »Diesmal kannst du nicht mit mir kommen. Aber du wirst mir später folgen.«37 »Lass mich doch jetzt bei dir bleiben«, bat ihn Petrus und beteuerte: »Ich wäre sogar bereit, für dich zu sterben!«

38 tDa antwortete Jesus: »Du willst für mich sterben? Petrus, ich versichere dir: Ehe morgen früh der Hahn kräht, wirst du dreimal geleugnet haben, mich zu kennen!«

1 Now before the feast of the passover, Jesus knowing that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto his Father, having loved his own that were in the world, he loved them unto the end.2 And during supper, the devil having already put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray him,3 Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all the things into his hands, and that he came forth from God, and goeth unto God,4 riseth from supper, and layeth aside his garments; and he took a towel, and girded himself.5 Then he poureth water into the basin, and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded.6 So he cometh to Simon Peter. He saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet?7 Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt understand hereafter.8 Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me.9 Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head.10 Jesus saith to him, He that is bathed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all.11 For he knew him that should betray him; therefore said he, Ye are not all clean.12 So when he had washed their feet, and taken his garments, and sat down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you?13 Ye call me, Teacher, and, Lord: and ye say well; for so I am.14 If I then, the Lord and the Teacher, have washed your feet, ye also ought to wash one another’s feet.15 For I have given you an example, that ye also should do as I have done to you.16 Verily, verily, I say unto you, a servant is not greater than his lord; neither one that is sent greater than he that sent him.17 If ye know these things, blessed are ye if ye do them.18 I speak not of you all: I know whom I have chosen: but that the scripture may be fulfilled: He that eateth my bread lifted up his heel against me.19 From henceforth I tell you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe that I am he.20 Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that receiveth whomsoever I send receiveth me; and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.21 When Jesus had thus said, he was troubled in the spirit, and testified, and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.22 The disciples looked one on another, doubting of whom he spake.23 There was at the table reclining in Jesus’ bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved.24 Simon Peter therefore beckoneth to him, and saith unto him, Tell us who it is of whom he speaketh.25 He leaning back, as he was, on Jesus’ breast saith unto him, Lord, who is it?26 Jesus therefore answereth, He it is, for whom I shall dip the sop, and give it him. So when he had dipped the sop, he taketh and giveth it to Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot.27 And after the sop, then entered Satan into him. Jesus therefore saith unto him, What thou doest, do quickly.28 Now no man at the table knew for what intent he spake this unto him.29 For some thought, because Judas had the bag, that Jesus said unto him, Buy what things we have need of for the feast; or, that he should give something to the poor.30 He then having received the sop went out straightway: and it was night.31 When therefore he was gone out, Jesus saith, Now is the Son of man glorified, and God is glorified in him;32 and God shall glorify him in himself, and straightway shall he glorify him.33 Little children, yet a little while I am with you. Ye shall seek me: and as I said unto the Jews, Whither I go, ye cannot come; so now I say unto you.34 A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another; even as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.36 Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, whither goest thou? Jesus answered, Whither I go, thou canst not follow now; but thou shalt follow afterwards.37 Peter saith unto him, Lord, why cannot I follow thee even now? I will lay down my life for thee.38 Jesus answereth, Wilt thou lay down thy life for me? Verily, verily, I say unto thee, The cock shall not crow, till thou hast denied me thrice.
