Gesù lava i piedi dei suoi discepoli

1 OR avanti la festa di Pasqua, Gesù, sapendo che la sua ora era venutat, da passar di questo mondo al Padre; avendo amati i suoi che erano nel mondo, li amò infino alla fine.
2 E finita la cena (avendo già il diavolo messo nel cuor di Giuda Iscariot, figliuol di Simone, di tradirlot), 3 Gesù, sapendo che il Padre gli avea dato ogni cosa in manot, e ch'egli era proceduto da Dio, e se ne andava a Diot; 4 si levò dalla cena, e pose giù la sua vesta; e preso uno sciugatoio, se ne cinset.

5 Poi mise dell'acqua in un bacino, e prese a lavare i piedi de'~discepoli, e ad asciugarli con lo sciugatoio, del quale egli era cinto.
6 Venne adunque a Simon Pietro. Ed egli disse: Signore, mi lavi tu i piedit? 7 Gesù rispose, e gli disse: Tu non sai ora quel ch'io fo, ma lo saprai appressot. 8 Pietro gli disse: Tu non mi laverai giammai i piedi. Gesù gli disse: Se io non ti lavot, tu non avrai parte alcuna meco. 9 Simon Pietro gli disse: Signore, non solo i piedi, ma anche le mani, e il capo. 10 Gesù gli disse: Chi è lavato non ha bisogno se non di lavare i piedi, ma è tutto netto; voi ancora siete nettit, ma non tutti.

11 Perciocchè egli conosceva colui che lo tradivat; perciò disse: Non tutti siete netti.
12 Dunque, dopo ch'egli ebbe loro lavati i piedi, ed ebbe ripresa la sua vesta, messosi di nuovo a tavola, disse loro: Sapete voi quel ch'io vi ho fatto? 13 Voi mi chiamate Maestro, e Signore, e dite benet, perciocchè io lo sono. 14 Se dunque io, che sono il Signore, e il Maestro, v'ho lavati i piedi, voi ancora dovete lavare i piedi gli uni agli altrit. 15 Perchè io vi ho dato esempio, acciocchè, come ho fatto io, facciate ancor voit. 16 In verità, in verità, io vi dico, che il servitore non è maggior del suo signore, nè il messo maggior di colui che l'ha mandatot.

17 Se sapete queste cose, voi siete beati se le fatet.
18 Io non dico di voi tutti; io so quelli che io ho eletti; ma conviene che s'adempia questa scrittura: Colui che mangia il pane meco ha levato contro a me il suo calcagnot. 19 Fin da ora io vel dico, avanti che sia avvenuto; acciocchè, quando sarà avvenuto, crediate ch'io son desso.

20 In verità, in verità, io vi dico, che, se io mando alcuno, chi lo riceve riceve me, e chi riceve me riceve colui che mi ha mandatot.

Gesù svela il tradimento di Giuda

21 DOPO che Gesù ebbe dette queste cose, fu turbato nello spirito; e protestò, e disse: In verità, in verità, io vi dico, che l'un di voit mi tradirà.
22 Laonde i discepoli si riguardavano gli uni gli altri, stando in dubbio di chi dicesse. 23 Or uno de'~discepoli, il quale Gesù amavat, era coricato in sul seno d'essot. 24 Simon Pietro adunque gli fece cenno, che domandasse chi fosse colui, del quale egli parlava. 25 E quel discepolo, inchinatosi sopra il petto di Gesù, gli disse: Signore, chi è colui? Gesù rispose: 26 Egli è colui, al quale io darò il boccone, dopo averlo intinto. Ed avendo intinto il boccone, lo diede a Giuda Iscariot, figliuol di Simone. 27 Ed allora, dopo quel boccone, Satana entrò in luit. Laonde Gesù gli disse: Fa'~prestamente quel che tu fai. 28 Ma niun di coloro ch'erano a tavola intese perchè gli avea detto quello.

29 Perciocchè alcuni stimavano, perchè Giuda avea la borsat, che Gesù gli avesse detto: Comperaci le cose che ci bisognano per la festa; ovvero, che desse qualche cosa ai poveri.

30 Egli adunque, preso il boccone, subito se ne uscì. Or era notte.

32 E se Dio è glorificato in lui, egli altresì lo glorificherà in sè medesimo, e tosto lo glorificheràt.

35 Da questo conosceranno tutti che voi siete miei discepoli, se avrete amore gli uni per gli altrit.
36 Simon Pietro gli disse: Signore, dove vai? Gesù gli rispose: Là ove io vo, tu non puoi ora seguitarmi; ma mi seguiterai poi appressot. 37 Pietro gli disse: Signore, perchè non posso io ora seguitarti? io metterò la vita mia per tet. 38 Gesù gli rispose: Tu metterai la vita tua per me? in verità, in verità, io ti dico che il gallo non canterà, che tu non mi abbi rinnegato tre volte.

Washing the Disciples’ Feet

1 Just before the Passover feast, Jesus knew that his timet had come to departt from this world to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he now loved them to the very end.ts2 The evening mealt was in progress, and the devil had already put into the hearts of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, that he should betrayt Jesus.t3 Because Jesust knew that the Father had handed all things over to him,t and that he had come from God and was going back to God,4 he got up from the meal, removedt his outer clothes,t took a towel and tied it around himself.t

5 He poured water into the washbasin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to dry them with the towel he had wrapped around himself.t
6 Then he came to Simon Peter. Petert said to him, “Lord, are you going to washt my feet?”7 Jesus replied,t “You do not understandt what I am doing now, but you will understandt after these things.”8 Peter said to him, “You will never wash my feet!”t Jesus replied,t “If I do not wash you, you have no share with me.”t9 Simon Peter said to him, “Lord, washt not only my feet, but also my hands and my head!”10 Jesus replied,t “The one who has bathed needs only to wash his feet,t but is completelyt clean.s And you disciplest are clean, but not every one of you.”

11 (For Jesust knew the one who was going to betray him. For this reason he said, “Not every one of you ist clean.”)s
12 So when Jesust had washed their feet and put his outer clothing back on, he took his place at the tablet again and said to them, “Do you understandt what I have done for you?13 You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and do so correctly,t for that is what I am.t14 If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you too ought to wash one another’s feet.15 For I have given you an examples – you should do just as I have done for you.16 I tell you the solemn truth,t the slavet is not greater than his master, nor is the one who is sent as a messengert greater than the one who sent him.

17 If you understandt these things, you will be blessed if you do them.

The Announcement of Jesus’ Betrayal

18 “What I am saying does not refer to all of you. I know the ones I have chosen. But this is to fulfill the scripture,t ‘The one who eats my breadthas turned against me.’ts19 I am telling you this now,t before it happens, so that when it happens you may believet that I am he.t

20 I tell you the solemn truth,t whoever acceptst the one I send accepts me, and whoever accepts me accepts the one who sent me.”s
21 When he had said these things, Jesus was greatly distressedt in spirit, and testified,t “I tell you the solemn truth,t one of you will betray me.”t22 The disciples began to look at one another, worried and perplexedt to know which of them he was talking about.23 One of his disciples, the one Jesus loved,s was at the tablet to the right of Jesus in a place of honor.ts24 So Simon Peters gestured to this disciplet to ask Jesust who it was he was referring to.s25 Then the disciple whom Jesus lovedt leaned back against Jesus’ chest and asked him, “Lord, who is it?”26 Jesus replied,t “It is the one to whom I will give this piece of breads after I have dipped it in the dish.”t Then he dipped the piece of bread in the disht and gave it to Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son.27 And after Judast took the piece of bread, Satan entered into him.ts Jesus said to him,t “What you are about to do, do quickly.”28 (Now none of those present at the tablet understoodt why Jesust said this to Judas.t29 Some thought that, because Judas had the money box, Jesus was telling him to buy whatever they needed for the feast,t or to give something to the poor.)s

30 Judast took the piece of bread and went out immediately. (Now it was night.)s

The Prediction of Peter’s Denial

31 Whent Judast had gone out, Jesus said, “Now the Son of Man is glorified, and God is glorified in him.32 If God is glorified in him,s God will also glorify him in himself, and he will glorify him right away.t

33 Children, I am still with you for a little while. You will look for me,t and just as I said to the Jewish religious leaders,t ‘Where I am going you cannot come,’s now I tell you the same.t
34 “I give you a new commandment – to lovet one another. Just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.s

35 Everyonet will know by this that you are my disciples – if you have love for one another.”
36 Simon Peter said to him, “Lord, where are you going?” Jesus replied,t “Where I am going, you cannot follow me now, but you will follow later.”37 Peter said to him, “Lord, why can’t I follow you now? I will lay down my life for you!”t

38 Jesus answered, “Will you lay down your life for me?t I tell you the solemn truth,t the rooster will not crow until you have denied me three times!
