Cesta, pravda a život

1 „Nermuťte se v srdcích. Věříte v Boha, věřte i ve mne. 2 V domě mého Otce je mnoho pokojů. Kdyby to tak nebylo, řekl bych vám to. 3 Jdu, abych vám připravil místo. Až odejdu a připravím vám místo, zase přijdu a vezmu vás k sobě, abyste i vy byli tam, kde jsem já. 4 Víte, kam jdu, a cestu znáte.“

5 „Pane, nevíme, kam jdeš,“ přerušil ho Tomáš. „A jak můžeme znát cestu?“

6 „Já jsem ta cesta, pravda a život,“ odpověděl Ježíš. „Nikdo nepřichází k Otci než skrze mne. 7 Kdybyste mě znali, znali byste i mého Otce. Od nynějška už ho znáte a viděli jste ho!“

8 „Pane,“ řekl mu Filip, „stačí, když nám ukážeš Otce.“

9 „Filipe,“ odvětil Ježíš, „tak dlouho jsem s vámi a nepoznal jsi mě? Kdo viděl mě, viděl Otce. Jak můžeš říkat: ‚Ukaž nám Otce‘? 10 Nevěříš, že já jsem v Otci a Otec ve mně? Slova, která vám říkám, neříkám sám od sebe. To Otec, který ve mně přebývá, on působí ty skutky. 11 Věřte mi, že já jsem v Otci a Otec ve mně, už jen kvůli těm skutkům věřte.

12 Amen, amen, říkám vám: Kdo věří ve mne, bude dělat skutky, které dělám já. A bude dělat ještě větší skutky, neboť odcházím k Otci. 13 O cokoli poprosíte v mém jménu, to udělám, aby byl Otec oslaven v Synu. 14 Když mě budete o něco prosit v mém jménu, já to udělám.“

Jiný Utěšitel

15 „Jestliže mě milujete, zachovávejte má přikázání. 16 Já pak požádám Otce a dá vám jiného Utěšitele, aby s vámi zůstal navěky, 17 totiž Ducha pravdy, jehož svět nemůže přijmout, neboť ho nevidí a nezná. Vy ho však znáte, neboť žije u vás a bude ve vás. 18 Nenechám vás jako sirotky, přijdu k vám. 19 Ještě kratičko a svět mě neuvidí, ale vy mě uvidíte. Protože já žiji, budete žít i vy. 20 V ten den poznáte, že já jsem ve svém Otci a vy ve mně a já ve vás. 21 Kdo přijal má přikázání a zachovává je, ten mě miluje. A kdo mě miluje, bude milován mým Otcem a já ho budu milovat a dám se mu poznat.“

22 Juda (ne ten Iškariotský) mu řekl: „Pane, proč se chceš dát poznat nám, a ne světu?“

23 Ježíš mu odpověděl: „Kdo mě miluje, bude zachovávat mé slovo; můj Otec ho bude milovat a přijdeme k němu a budeme žít s ním. 24 Kdo mě nemiluje, nezachová moje slova. A slovo, které slyšíte, není mé, ale Toho, který mě poslal, Otcovo. 25 To vše jsem vám říkal, dokud jsem žil u vás. 26 Avšak Utěšitel, ten Duch svatý, kterého Otec pošle v mém jménu, ten vás naučí všemu a připomene vám všechno, co jsem vám řekl.

27 Odkazuji vám pokoj, svůj pokoj vám dávám; já dávám jinak, než jak dává svět. Nermuťte se v srdcích a nemějte strach. 28 Slyšeli jste mě říci: ‚Odcházím a zase k vám přijdu.‘ Kdybyste mě milovali, byli byste rádi, že jdu k Otci, neboť můj Otec je větší než já. 29 Řekl jsem vám to teď, předtím než se to stane, abyste, až se to stane, uvěřili.

30 Už s vámi nebudu dlouho mluvit, neboť přichází vládce tohoto světa. Nemá na mně nic, 31 ale přichází, aby svět poznal, že miluji Otce a že jednám, jak mi Otec přikázal. Vstaňte, pojďme odsud.“

John 14

Jesus’ Parting Words to His Disciples

1 “Do not let your hearts be distressed.s You believe in God;t believe also in me.2 There are many dwelling placest in my Father’s house.s Otherwise, I would have told you, becausests I am going away to make readyt a place for you.t3 And if I go and make readyt a place for you, I will come again and take yout to be with me,t so that where I am you may be too.

4 And you know the way where I am going.”ss
5 Thomas said,t “Lord, we don’t know where you are going. How can we know the way?”6 Jesus replied,t “I am the way, and the truth, and the life.t No one comes to the Father except through me.

7 If you have known me, you will know my Father too.s And from now on you do know him and have seen him.”
8 Philip said,t “Lord, show us the Father, and we will be content.”t9 Jesus replied,t “Have I been with you for so long, and you have not knownt me, Philip? The person who has seen me has seen the Father! How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in me?t The words that I say to you, I do not speak on my own initiative,t but the Father residing in me performst his miraculous deeds.ts11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father is in me, but if you do not believe me,t believe because of the miraculous deedsts themselves.12 I tell you the solemn truth,t the person who believes in me will performt the miraculous deedst that I am doing,ts and will performt greater deedsts than these, because I am going to the Father.13 And I will do whatever you ask in my name,t so that the Father may be glorifiedt in the Son.

14 If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.

Teaching on the Holy Spirit

15 “If you love me, you will obeyt my commandments.s16 Thent I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocatet to be with you forever –

17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot accept,t because it does not see him or know him. But you know him, because he residest with you and will bes in you.
18 “I will not abandont you as orphans,t I will come to you.s19 In a little whilet the world will not see me any longer, but you will see me; because I live, you will live too.20 You will know at that timets that I am in my Father and you are in me and I am in you.

21 The person who has my commandments and obeyst them is the one who loves me.t The onet who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and will revealt myself to him.”
22 “Lord,” Judas (not Judas Iscariot)ts said,t “what has happened that you are going to revealts yourself to us and not to the world?”23 Jesus replied,t “If anyone loves me, he will obeyt my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and take up residence with him.t

24 The person who does not love me does not obeyt my words. And the wordt you hear is not mine, but the Father’s who sent me.
25 “I have spoken these things while stayingt with you.

26 But the Advocate,t the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach yout everything,t and will cause you to remember everythingt I said to you.
27 “Peace I leave with you;s my peace I give to you; I do not give itt to you as the world does.t Do not let your hearts be distressed or lacking in courage.t28 You heard me say to you,t ‘I am going away and I am coming back to you.’ If you loved me, you would be gladt that I am going to the Father, because the Father is greater than I am.s29 I have told you now before it happens, so that when it happens you may believe.s30 I will not speak with you much longer,t for the ruler of this world is coming.s He has no power over me,t

31 but I am doing just what the Father commanded me, so that the world may knowt that I love the Father.t Get up, let us go from here.”s
