Jesús, el camino al Padre

1 “No os angustiéis: creed en Dios y creed también en mí.t 2 En la casa de mi Padre hay muchos lugares donde vivir; si no fuera así, no os habría dicho que voy a prepararos un lugar.t 3 Y después de ir y prepararos un lugar, vendré otra vezt para llevaros conmigo, para que vosotros también estéis donde yo voy a estar.

4 Ya sabéis el camino que lleva a donde yo voy.”

5 Tomás dijo a Jesús:
–Señor, no sabemos a dónde vas: ¿cómo vamos a saber el camino?t

6 Jesús le contestó:
–Yo soy el camino,t la verdad y la vida.t Solamente por mí se puede llegar al Padre.t

7 Si me conocéis, también conoceréis a mi Padre; y desde ahora ya le conocéis y le estáis viendo.

8 Felipe le dijo entonces:
–Señor, déjanos ver al Padre y con eso nos basta.t

9 Jesús le contestó:
–Felipe, ¿tanto tiempo hace que estoy con vosotros y todavía no me conoces? El que me ve a mí ve al Padre:t ¿por qué me pides que os deje ver al Padre? 10 ¿No crees que yo estoy en el Padre y el Padre en mí? Las cosas que yo os digo no las digo por mi propia cuenta. El Padre, que vive en mí, es el que hace su propia obra. 11 Creedme que yo estoy en el Padre y el Padre en mí; si no, creed al menos por las propias obras. 12 Os aseguro que el que cree en mí hará también las obras que yo hago; y hará otras todavía más grandes,t porque yo voy al Padre. 13 Y todo lo que pidáis en mi nombre yo lo haré, para que por el Hijo se manifieste la gloria del Padre.

14 Yo haré cualquier cosa que me pidáis en mi nombre.t

Jesús promete enviar el Espíritu Santo

16-17 Y yo pediré al Padre que os envíe otro defensor,t el Espíritu de la verdad, para que esté siempre con vosotros. Los que son del mundot no lo pueden recibir, porque no lo ven ni lo conocen; pero vosotros lo conocéis, porque él está con vosotros y permanecerá siempre en vosotros.
18 “No voy a dejaros abandonados: volverét para estar con vosotros. 19 Dentro de poco, los que son del mundo ya no me verán; pero vosotros me veréis,t y viviréis porque yo vivo. 20 En aquel día os daréis cuenta de que yo estoy en mi Padre, y que vosotros estáis en mí y yo en vosotros.

21 El que recibe mis mandamientos y los obedece, demuestra que me ama.t Y mi Padre amará al que me ama, y yo también le amaré y me mostraré a él.”

22 Judas (no el Iscariote)t le preguntó:
–Señor, ¿por qué vas a mostrarte a nosotros y no a la gente del mundo?

23 Jesús le contestó:
–El que me ama hace caso a mi palabra; y mi Padre le amará, y mi Padre y yo vendremos a vivir con él.

24 El que no me ama no hace caso a mis palabras. Las palabras que estáis escuchando no son mías, sino del Padre, que me ha enviado.t
25 “Os he dicho todo esto mientras permanezco con vosotros;

26 pero el Espíritu Santo, el defensor que el Padre enviará en mi nombre,t os enseñará todas las cosas y os recordará todo lo que os he dicho.
27 “Os dejo la paz. Mi paz os doy,t pero no como la dan los que son del mundo. No os angustiéis ni tengáis miedo. 28 Ya me oísteis decir que me voy, y que vendré para estar otra vez con vosotros.t Si de veras me amaseis os habríais alegrado al saber que voy al Padre, porque él es más que yo.

29 Os digo esto de antemano, para que, cuando suceda, creáis.t
30 “Ya no hablaré mucho con vosotros, porque viene el que manda en este mundo.t Él no tiene ningún poder sobre mí,

31 pero así ha de ser, para que el mundo sepa que yo amo al Padre y que hago lo que él me ha encargado.t

Jesus’ Parting Words to His Disciples

1 “Do not let your hearts be distressed.s You believe in God;t believe also in me.2 There are many dwelling placest in my Father’s house.s Otherwise, I would have told you, becausests I am going away to make readyt a place for you.t3 And if I go and make readyt a place for you, I will come again and take yout to be with me,t so that where I am you may be too.

4 And you know the way where I am going.”ss
5 Thomas said,t “Lord, we don’t know where you are going. How can we know the way?”6 Jesus replied,t “I am the way, and the truth, and the life.t No one comes to the Father except through me.

7 If you have known me, you will know my Father too.s And from now on you do know him and have seen him.”
8 Philip said,t “Lord, show us the Father, and we will be content.”t9 Jesus replied,t “Have I been with you for so long, and you have not knownt me, Philip? The person who has seen me has seen the Father! How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in me?t The words that I say to you, I do not speak on my own initiative,t but the Father residing in me performst his miraculous deeds.ts11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father is in me, but if you do not believe me,t believe because of the miraculous deedsts themselves.12 I tell you the solemn truth,t the person who believes in me will performt the miraculous deedst that I am doing,ts and will performt greater deedsts than these, because I am going to the Father.13 And I will do whatever you ask in my name,t so that the Father may be glorifiedt in the Son.

14 If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.

Teaching on the Holy Spirit

15 “If you love me, you will obeyt my commandments.s16 Thent I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocatet to be with you forever –

17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot accept,t because it does not see him or know him. But you know him, because he residest with you and will bes in you.
18 “I will not abandont you as orphans,t I will come to you.s19 In a little whilet the world will not see me any longer, but you will see me; because I live, you will live too.20 You will know at that timets that I am in my Father and you are in me and I am in you.

21 The person who has my commandments and obeyst them is the one who loves me.t The onet who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and will revealt myself to him.”
22 “Lord,” Judas (not Judas Iscariot)ts said,t “what has happened that you are going to revealts yourself to us and not to the world?”23 Jesus replied,t “If anyone loves me, he will obeyt my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and take up residence with him.t

24 The person who does not love me does not obeyt my words. And the wordt you hear is not mine, but the Father’s who sent me.
25 “I have spoken these things while stayingt with you.

26 But the Advocate,t the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach yout everything,t and will cause you to remember everythingt I said to you.
27 “Peace I leave with you;s my peace I give to you; I do not give itt to you as the world does.t Do not let your hearts be distressed or lacking in courage.t28 You heard me say to you,t ‘I am going away and I am coming back to you.’ If you loved me, you would be gladt that I am going to the Father, because the Father is greater than I am.s29 I have told you now before it happens, so that when it happens you may believe.s30 I will not speak with you much longer,t for the ruler of this world is coming.s He has no power over me,t

31 but I am doing just what the Father commanded me, so that the world may knowt that I love the Father.t Get up, let us go from here.”s
