EVANGELO DI S. GIOVANNI 14

1 Il vostro cuore non sia turbatot; voi credete in Dio, credete ancora in me. 2 Nella casa del Padre mio vi son molte stanze; se no, io ve l'avrei detto; io vo ad apparecchiarvi il luogot. 3 E quando io sarò andato, e vi avrò apparecchiato il luogo, verrò di nuovot, e vi accoglierò appresso di me, acciocchè dove io sono, siate ancora voit.

4 Voi sapete ove io vo, e sapete anche la via.
5 Toma gli disse: Signore, noi non sappiamo ove tu vait; come dunque possiamo saper la via? 6 Gesù gli disse: Io son la viat, la veritàt, e la vitat; niuno viene al Padre se non per met.

7 Se voi mi aveste conosciuto, conoscereste anche il Padret; e fin da ora lo conoscete, e l'avete veduto.
8 Filippo gli disse: Signore, mostraci il Padre, e ciò ci basta. 9 Gesù gli disse: Cotanto tempo sono io già con voi, e tu non mi hai conosciuto, Filippo? chi mi ha veduto ha veduto il Padret; come dunque dici tu: Mostraci il Padre? 10 Non credi tu che io son nel Padre, e che il Padre è in met? le parole che io vi ragiono, non le ragiono da me stessot; e il Padre, che dimora in me, è quel che fa le opere.

11 Credetemi ch'io son nel Padre, e che il Padre è in me; se no, credetemi per esse operet.
12 In verità, in verità, io vi dico, che chi crede in me farà anch'egli le opere le quali io fo; anzi ne farà delle maggiori di questet, perciocchè io me ne vo al Padre. 13 Ed ogni cosa che voi avrete chiestat nel nome mio, quella farò; acciocchè il Padre sia glorificato nel Figliuolo.

14 Se voi chiedete cosa alcuna nel nome mio, io la farò.
15 Se voi mi amate, osservate i miei comandamentit. 16 Ed io pregherò il Padre, ed egli vi darà un altro Consolatoret, che dimori con voi in perpetuo. 17 Cioè lo Spirito della verità, il quale il mondo non può riceveret; perciocchè non lo vede, e non lo conosce; ma voi lo conoscete; perciocchè dimora appresso di voi, e sarà in voit. 18 Io non vi lascerò orfanit; io torneròt a voi. 19 Fra qui ed un poco di tempo, il mondo non mi vedrà piùt; ma voi mi vedrete; 20 perciocchè io vivo, e voi ancora vivretet. In quel giorno voi conoscerete che io son nel Padre miot, e che voi siete in me, ed io in voi.

21 Chi ha i miei comandamenti, e li osserva, esso è quel che mi amat; e chi mi ama sarà amato dal Padre miot; ed io ancora l'amerò, e me gli manifesterò.
22 Giuda, non l'Iscariott, gli disse: Signore, che vuol dire che tu ti manifesterai a noi, e non al mondo? Gesù rispose, e gli disse: 23 Se alcuno mi ama, osserverà la mia parolat, e il Padre mio l'amerà; e noi verremo a lui, e faremo dimora presso luit. 24 Chi non mi ama non osserva le mie parole; e la parola che voi udite, non è mia, ma del Padre che mi ha mandatot. 25 Io vi ho ragionate queste cose, dimorando appresso di voi.

26 Ma il Consolatore, cioè lo Spirito Santo, il quale il Padre manderà nel nome miot, esso v'insegnerà ogni cosa, e vi rammemorerà tutte le cose che io vi ho dettet.
27 Io vi lascio pace, io vi do la mia pacet: io non ve la do, come il mondo la dàt; il vostro cuore non sia turbatot, e non si spaventi. 28 Voi avete udito che io vi ho detto: Io me ne vo, e tornerò a voit; se voi mi amaste, certo voi vi rallegrereste di ciò che ho detto: Io me ne vo al Padret; poichè il Padre è maggiore di met. 29 Ed ora, io ve l'ho detto, innanzi che sia avvenuto; acciocchè, quando sarà avvenuto, voi crediate. 30 Io non parlerò più molto con voi; perciocchè il principe di questo mondo vienet, e non ha nulla in met. 31 Ma quest'è, acciocchè il mondo conosca che io amo il Padre, e che fo come il Padre mi ha ordinatot. Jesus’ Parting Words to His Disciples

1 “Do not let your hearts be distressed.s You believe in God;t believe also in me.2 There are many dwelling placest in my Father’s house.s Otherwise, I would have told you, becausests I am going away to make readyt a place for you.t3 And if I go and make readyt a place for you, I will come again and take yout to be with me,t so that where I am you may be too.

4 And you know the way where I am going.”ss
5 Thomas said,t “Lord, we don’t know where you are going. How can we know the way?”6 Jesus replied,t “I am the way, and the truth, and the life.t No one comes to the Father except through me.

7 If you have known me, you will know my Father too.s And from now on you do know him and have seen him.”
8 Philip said,t “Lord, show us the Father, and we will be content.”t9 Jesus replied,t “Have I been with you for so long, and you have not knownt me, Philip? The person who has seen me has seen the Father! How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in me?t The words that I say to you, I do not speak on my own initiative,t but the Father residing in me performst his miraculous deeds.ts11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father is in me, but if you do not believe me,t believe because of the miraculous deedsts themselves.12 I tell you the solemn truth,t the person who believes in me will performt the miraculous deedst that I am doing,ts and will performt greater deedsts than these, because I am going to the Father.13 And I will do whatever you ask in my name,t so that the Father may be glorifiedt in the Son.

14 If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.

Teaching on the Holy Spirit

15 “If you love me, you will obeyt my commandments.s16 Thent I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocatet to be with you forever –

17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot accept,t because it does not see him or know him. But you know him, because he residest with you and will bes in you.
18 “I will not abandont you as orphans,t I will come to you.s19 In a little whilet the world will not see me any longer, but you will see me; because I live, you will live too.20 You will know at that timets that I am in my Father and you are in me and I am in you.

21 The person who has my commandments and obeyst them is the one who loves me.t The onet who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and will revealt myself to him.”
22 “Lord,” Judas (not Judas Iscariot)ts said,t “what has happened that you are going to revealts yourself to us and not to the world?”23 Jesus replied,t “If anyone loves me, he will obeyt my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and take up residence with him.t

24 The person who does not love me does not obeyt my words. And the wordt you hear is not mine, but the Father’s who sent me.
25 “I have spoken these things while stayingt with you.

26 But the Advocate,t the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach yout everything,t and will cause you to remember everythingt I said to you.
27 “Peace I leave with you;s my peace I give to you; I do not give itt to you as the world does.t Do not let your hearts be distressed or lacking in courage.t28 You heard me say to you,t ‘I am going away and I am coming back to you.’ If you loved me, you would be gladt that I am going to the Father, because the Father is greater than I am.s29 I have told you now before it happens, so that when it happens you may believe.s30 I will not speak with you much longer,t for the ruler of this world is coming.s He has no power over me,t

31 but I am doing just what the Father commanded me, so that the world may knowt that I love the Father.t Get up, let us go from here.”s
