Johannes 14

1 Euer Herz werde nicht bestürzt. Ihr glaubet an Gott, glaubet auch an mich.2 Im Hause meines Vaters sind viele Wohnungen; wenn es nicht so wäre, würde ich es euch gesagt haben; denn ich gehe hin, euch eine Stätte zu bereiten.3 Und wenn ich hingehe und euch eine Stätte bereite, so komme ich wieder und werde euch zu mir nehmen, auf daß, wo ich bin, auch ihr seiet.4 Und wo ich hingehe, wisset ihr, und den Weg wisset ihr.5 Thomas spricht zu ihm: Herr, wir wissen nicht, wo du hingehst, und wie können wir den Weg wissen?6 Jesus spricht zu ihm: Ich bin der Weg und die Wahrheit und das Leben. Niemand kommt zum Vater, als nur durch mich.7 Wenn ihr mich erkannt hättet, so würdet ihr auch meinen Vater erkannt haben; und von jetzt an erkennet ihr ihn und habt ihn gesehen.8 Philippus spricht zu ihm: Herr, zeige uns den Vater, und es genügt uns.9 Jesus spricht zu ihm: So lange Zeit bin ich bei euch, und du hast mich nicht erkannt, Philippus? Wer mich gesehen hat, hat den Vater gesehen, und wie sagst du: Zeige uns den Vater? -10 Glaubst du nicht, daß ich in dem Vater bin und der Vater in mir ist? Die Worte, die ich zu euch rede, rede ich nicht von mir selbst; der Vater aber, der in mir bleibt, er tut die Werke.11 Glaubet mir, daß ich in dem Vater bin und der Vater in mir ist; wenn aber nicht, so glaubet mir um der Werke selbst willen.12 Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch: Wer an mich glaubt, der wird auch die Werke tun, die ich tue, und wird größere als diese tun, weil ich zum Vater gehe.13 Und was irgend ihr bitten werdet in meinem Namen, das werde ich tun, auf daß der Vater verherrlicht werde in dem Sohne.14 Wenn ihr etwas bitten werdet in meinem Namen, so werde ich es tun.15 Wenn ihr mich liebet, so haltet meine Gebote;16 und ich werde den Vater bitten, und er wird euch einen anderen Sachwalter geben, daß er bei euch sei in Ewigkeit,17 den Geist der Wahrheit, den die Welt nicht empfangen kann, weil sie ihn nicht sieht noch ihn kennt. Ihr aber kennet ihn, denn er bleibt bei euch und wird in euch sein.18 Ich werde euch nicht als Waisen lassen, ich komme zu euch.19 Noch ein Kleines, und die Welt sieht mich nicht mehr; ihr aber sehet mich: Weil ich lebe, werdet auch ihr leben.20 An jenem Tage werdet ihr erkennen, daß ich in meinem Vater bin, und ihr in mir und ich in euch.21 Wer meine Gebote hat und sie hält, der ist es, der mich liebt; wer aber mich liebt, wird von meinem Vater geliebt werden; und ich werde ihn lieben und mich selbst ihm offenbar machen.22 Judas, nicht der Iskariot, spricht zu ihm: Herr, wie ist es, daß du dich uns offenbar machen willst, und nicht der Welt?23 Jesus antwortete und sprach zu ihm: Wenn jemand mich liebt, so wird er mein Wort halten, und mein Vater wird ihn lieben, und wir werden zu ihm kommen und Wohnung bei ihm machen.24 Wer mich nicht liebt, hält meine Worte nicht; und das Wort, welches ihr höret, ist nicht mein, sondern des Vaters, der mich gesandt hat.25 Dies habe ich zu euch geredet, während ich bei euch bin.26 Der Sachwalter aber, der Heilige Geist, welchen der Vater senden wird in meinem Namen, jener wird euch alles lehren und euch an alles erinnern, was ich euch gesagt habe.27 Frieden lasse ich euch, meinen Frieden gebe ich euch; nicht wie die Welt gibt, gebe ich euch. Euer Herz werde nicht bestürzt, sei auch nicht furchtsam.28 Ihr habt gehört, daß ich euch gesagt habe: Ich gehe hin, und ich komme zu euch. Wenn ihr mich liebtet, so würdet ihr euch freuen, daß ich zum Vater gehe, denn mein Vater ist größer als ich.29 Und jetzt habe ich es euch gesagt, ehe es geschieht, auf daß, wenn es geschieht, ihr glaubet.30 Ich werde nicht mehr vieles mit euch reden, denn der Fürst der Welt kommt und hat nichts in mir;31 aber auf daß die Welt erkenne, daß ich den Vater liebe und also tue, wie mir der Vater geboten hat. Stehet auf, lasset uns von hinnen gehen.

Jesus’ Parting Words to His Disciples

1 “Do not let your hearts be distressed.s You believe in God;t believe also in me.2 There are many dwelling placest in my Father’s house.s Otherwise, I would have told you, becausests I am going away to make readyt a place for you.t3 And if I go and make readyt a place for you, I will come again and take yout to be with me,t so that where I am you may be too.

4 And you know the way where I am going.”ss
5 Thomas said,t “Lord, we don’t know where you are going. How can we know the way?”6 Jesus replied,t “I am the way, and the truth, and the life.t No one comes to the Father except through me.

7 If you have known me, you will know my Father too.s And from now on you do know him and have seen him.”
8 Philip said,t “Lord, show us the Father, and we will be content.”t9 Jesus replied,t “Have I been with you for so long, and you have not knownt me, Philip? The person who has seen me has seen the Father! How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in me?t The words that I say to you, I do not speak on my own initiative,t but the Father residing in me performst his miraculous deeds.ts11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father is in me, but if you do not believe me,t believe because of the miraculous deedsts themselves.12 I tell you the solemn truth,t the person who believes in me will performt the miraculous deedst that I am doing,ts and will performt greater deedsts than these, because I am going to the Father.13 And I will do whatever you ask in my name,t so that the Father may be glorifiedt in the Son.

14 If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.

15 “If you love me, you will obeyt my commandments.s16 Thent I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocatet to be with you forever –

17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot accept,t because it does not see him or know him. But you know him, because he residest with you and will bes in you.
18 “I will not abandont you as orphans,t I will come to you.s19 In a little whilet the world will not see me any longer, but you will see me; because I live, you will live too.20 You will know at that timets that I am in my Father and you are in me and I am in you.

21 The person who has my commandments and obeyst them is the one who loves me.t The onet who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and will revealt myself to him.”
22 “Lord,” Judas (not Judas Iscariot)ts said,t “what has happened that you are going to revealts yourself to us and not to the world?”23 Jesus replied,t “If anyone loves me, he will obeyt my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and take up residence with him.t

24 The person who does not love me does not obeyt my words. And the wordt you hear is not mine, but the Father’s who sent me.
25 “I have spoken these things while stayingt with you.

26 But the Advocate,t the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach yout everything,t and will cause you to remember everythingt I said to you.
27 “Peace I leave with you;s my peace I give to you; I do not give itt to you as the world does.t Do not let your hearts be distressed or lacking in courage.t28 You heard me say to you,t ‘I am going away and I am coming back to you.’ If you loved me, you would be gladt that I am going to the Father, because the Father is greater than I am.s29 I have told you now before it happens, so that when it happens you may believe.s30 I will not speak with you much longer,t for the ruler of this world is coming.s He has no power over me,t

31 but I am doing just what the Father commanded me, so that the world may knowt that I love the Father.t Get up, let us go from here.”s
