Jésus est le chemin qui conduit au Père
1 « Ne soyez pas si inquiets, leur dit Jésus. Ayez confiancet en Dieu et ayez aussi confiance en moi. 2 Il y a beaucoup de place dans la maison de mon Père ; sinon vous aurais-je dit que j’allais vous préparer le lieu où vous serezt ? 3 Et après être allé vous préparer une place, je reviendrai et je vous prendrai auprès de moi, afin que vous soyez, vous aussi, là où je suis. 4 Vous connaissez le chemin qui conduit où je vais. » 5 Thomas lui dit : « Seigneur, nous ne savons pas où tu vas. Comment pourrions-nous en connaître le chemin ? » 6 Jésus lui répondit : « Je suis le chemin, la vérité, la vie. Personne ne peut aller au Père autrement que par moi.
7 Si vous me connaissez, vous connaîtrezt aussi mon Père. Et dès maintenant vous le connaissez, vous l’avez vu. »
8 Philippe lui dit : « Seigneur, montre-nous le Père et nous serons satisfaits. » 9 Jésus lui répondit : « Il y a si longtemps que je suis avec vous et tu ne me connais pas encore, Philippe ? Celui qui m’a vu a vu le Père. Pourquoi donc dis-tu : “Montre-nous le Père” ? 10 Ne crois-tu pas que je vis dans le Père et que le Père vit en moi ? Les paroles que je vous dis à tous ne viennent pas de moi. C’est le Père qui demeure en moi qui accomplit ses propres œuvres. 11 Croyez-moi quand je dis : je vis dans le Père et le Père vit en moi. Ou, du moins, croyez à cause de ces œuvres. 12 Oui, je vous le déclare, c’est la vérité : celui qui croit en moi fera aussi les œuvres que je fais. Il en fera même de plus grandes, parce que je vais auprès du Père. 13 Et je ferai tout ce que vous demanderez en mon nom, afin que le Fils manifeste la gloire du Père.
14 Si vous met demandez quelque chose en mon nom, je le ferai. »La promesse de l’envoi du Saint-Esprit
15 « Si vous m’aimez, vous obéirez à mes commandements. 16 Je demanderai au Père de vous donner quelqu’un d’autre pour vous venir en aide, afin qu’il soit toujours avec vous : 17 c’est l’Esprit de vérité. Le monde ne peut pas le recevoir, parce qu’il ne peut ni le voir ni le connaître. Mais vous, vous le connaissez, parce qu’il demeure avec vous et qu’il serat toujours en vous. 18 Je ne vous laisserai pas seuls comme des orphelins ; je reviendrai auprès de vous. 19 Dans peu de temps le monde ne me verra plus, mais vous, vous me verrez, parce que je vis et que vous vivrez aussi.
20 Ce jour-là, vous comprendrez que je vis uni à mon Père et que vous êtes unis à moi et moi à vous.
21 « Celui qui retient mes commandements et leur obéit, voilà celui qui m’aime. Mon Père aimera celui qui m’aime ; je l’aimerai aussi et je me montrerai à lui. »
22 Jude – non pas Judas Iscariote – lui dit : « Seigneur, comment se fait-il que tu doives te montrer à nous et non au monde ? » 23 Jésus lui répondit : « Celui qui m’aime obéira à ce que je dis. Mon Père l’aimera ; nous viendrons à lui, mon Père et moi, et nous habiterons chez lui. 24 Celui qui ne m’aime pas n’obéit pas à mes paroles. Ce que vous m’entendez dire ne vient pas de moi, mais de mon Père qui m’a envoyé. 25 Je vous ai dit cela pendant que je suis encore avec vous.
26 Celui qui doit vous venir en aide, le Saint-Esprit que le Père enverra en mon nom, vous enseignera tout et vous rappellera tout ce que je vous ai dit.
27 « C’est la paix que je vous laisse, c’est ma paix que je vous donnet. Je ne vous la donne pas à la manière du monde. Ne soyez pas inquiets, ne soyez pas effrayés. 28 Vous m’avez entendu dire : “Je m’en vais, mais je reviendrai auprès de vous.” Si vous m’aimiez, vous vous réjouiriez de savoir que je vais auprès du Père, parce que le Père est plus grand que moi. 29 Je vous l’ai dit maintenant, avant que ces choses arrivent, afin que lorsqu’elles arriveront vous croyiez. 30 Je ne parlerai plus beaucoup avec vous, car le dominateur de ce monde vient. Il n’a aucun pouvoir sur moi, 31 mais il faut que le monde sache que j’aime le Père et que j’agis comme le Père me l’a ordonné. Levez-vous, partons d’ici ! »
John 14
1 Let not your heart be troubled: believe in God, believe also in me.2 In my Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you.3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I come again, and will receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.4 And whither I go, ye know the way.5 Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; how know we the way?6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, and the truth, and the life: no one cometh unto the Father, but by me.7 If ye had known me, ye would have known my Father also: from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.8 Philip saith unto him, Lord, show us the Father, and it sufficeth us.9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and dost thou not know me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; how sayest thou, Show us the Father?10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I say unto you I speak not from myself: but the Father abiding in me doeth his works.11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake.12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto the Father.13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.14 If ye shall ask anything in my name, that will I do.15 If ye love me, ye will keep my commandments.16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may be with you for ever,17 even the Spirit of truth: whom the world cannot receive; for it beholdeth him not, neither knoweth him: ye know him; for he abideth with you, and shall be in you.18 I will not leave you desolate: I come unto you.19 Yet a little while, and the world beholdeth me no more; but ye behold me: because I live, ye shall live also.20 In that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself unto him.22 Judas (not Iscariot) saith unto him, Lord, what is come to pass that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world?23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my word: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.24 He that loveth me not keepeth not my words: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father’s who sent me.25 These things have I spoken unto you, while yet abiding with you.26 But the Comforter, even the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said unto you.27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful.28 Ye heard how I said to you, I go away, and I come unto you. If ye loved me, ye would have rejoiced, because I go unto the Father: for the Father is greater than I.29 And now I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe.30 I will no more speak much with you, for the prince of the world cometh: and he hath nothing in me;31 but that the world may know that I love the Father, and as the Father gave me commandment, even so I do. Arise, let us go hence.
