Le chemin du Père

1  tQue votre cœur ne se trouble pas. Mettez votre foi en Dieu, mettez aussi votre foi en moi. 2 tIl y a beaucoup de demeures dans la maison de mon Père. Sinon, vous aurais-je dit que je vais vous préparer une place ? 3 tSi donc je m’en vais vous préparer une place, je reviens vous prendre auprès de moi, pour que là où, moi, je suis, vous soyez, vous aussi.

4 tEt là où, moi, je vais, vous en savez le chemin.
5  tThomas lui dit : Seigneur, nous ne savons pas où tu vas ; comment en saurions-nous le chemin ? 6 tJésus lui dit : C’est moi qui suis le chemin, la vérité et la vie. Personne ne vient au Père sinon par moi.

7 tSi vous me connaissez, vous connaîtrez aussi mon Père. Et, dès maintenant, vous le connaissez et vous l’avez vu.
8  tPhilippe lui dit : Seigneur, montre-nous le Père, et cela nous suffit. 9 tJésus lui dit : Il y a si longtemps que je suis avec vous et tu ne me connais pas, Philippe ? Celui qui m’a vu a vu le Père. Comment peux-tu dire, toi : « Montre-nous le Père ! » 10 tNe crois-tu pas que, moi, je suis dans le Père, et que le Père est en moi ? Les paroles que, moi, je vous dis, je ne les dis pas de ma propre initiative ; c’est le Père qui, demeurant en moi, fait ses œuvres.

11 tCroyez-moi : moi, je suis dans le Père, et le Père est en moi. Sinon, croyez à cause des œuvres elles-mêmes.
12  t Amen, amen, je vous le dis, celui qui met sa foi en moi fera, lui aussi, les œuvres que, moi, je fais ; il en fera même de plus grandes encore, parce que, moi, je vais vers le Père ; 13 tet tout ce que vous demanderez en mon nom, je le ferai, pour que le Père soit glorifié dans le Fils.

14 tSi vous me demandez quelque chose en mon nom, moi, je le ferai.

Le « Défenseur »

17 tl’Esprit de la vérité, que le monde ne peut pas recevoir, parce qu’il ne le voit pas et qu’il ne le connaît pas ; vous, vous le connaissez, parce qu’il demeure auprès de vous et qu’il sera en vous.
18  tJe ne vous laisserai pas orphelins ; je viens à vous. 19 tEncore un peu, et le monde ne me verra plus ; mais vous, vous me verrez, parce que, moi, je vis, et que vous aussi, vous vivrez. 20 tEn ce jour-là, vous saurez que, moi, je suis en mon Père, comme vous en moi et moi en vous.

21 tCelui qui m’aime, c’est celui qui a mes commandements et qui les garde. Or celui qui m’aime sera aimé de mon Père ; moi aussi je l’aimerai et je me manifesterai à lui.
22  tJudas, non pas l’Iscariote, lui dit : Seigneur, comment se fait-il que tu doives te manifester à nous et non pas au monde ? 23 tJésus lui répondit : Si quelqu’un m’aime, il gardera ma parole, et mon Père l’aimera ; nous viendrons à lui et nous ferons notre demeure auprès de lui.

24 tCelui qui ne m’aime pas ne garde pas mes paroles. Et la parole que vous entendez n’est pas la mienne, mais celle du Père qui m’a envoyé.
25  tJe vous ai parlé ainsi pendant que je demeurais auprès de vous.

26 tMais c’est le Défenseur, l’Esprit saint que le Père enverra en mon nom, qui vous enseignera tout et vous rappellera tout ce que, moi, je vous ai dit.
27  tJe vous laisse la paix, je vous donne ma paix. Moi, je ne vous donne pas comme le monde donne. Que votre cœur ne se trouble pas et ne cède pas à la lâcheté ! 28 tVous avez entendu que, moi, je vous ai dit : Je m’en vais et je viens à vous. Si vous m’aimiez, vous vous réjouiriez de ce que je vais vers le Père, car le Père est plus grand que moi.

29 tJe vous ai dit ces choses maintenant, avant qu’elles n’arrivent, pour que, lorsqu’elles arriveront, vous croyiez.
30  tJe ne parlerai plus guère avec vous, car le prince du monde vient. Il n’a rien en moi qui lui appartienne, 31 tmais c’est pour que le monde sache que j’aime le Père et que je fais ce que le Père m’a commandé. Levez-vous, partons d’ici.

John 14

1 Let not your heart be troubled: believe in God, believe also in me.2 In my Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you.3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I come again, and will receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.4 And whither I go, ye know the way.5 Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; how know we the way?6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, and the truth, and the life: no one cometh unto the Father, but by me.7 If ye had known me, ye would have known my Father also: from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.8 Philip saith unto him, Lord, show us the Father, and it sufficeth us.9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and dost thou not know me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; how sayest thou, Show us the Father?10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I say unto you I speak not from myself: but the Father abiding in me doeth his works.11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake.12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto the Father.13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.14 If ye shall ask anything in my name, that will I do.15 If ye love me, ye will keep my commandments.16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may be with you for ever,17 even the Spirit of truth: whom the world cannot receive; for it beholdeth him not, neither knoweth him: ye know him; for he abideth with you, and shall be in you.18 I will not leave you desolate: I come unto you.19 Yet a little while, and the world beholdeth me no more; but ye behold me: because I live, ye shall live also.20 In that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself unto him.22 Judas (not Iscariot) saith unto him, Lord, what is come to pass that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world?23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my word: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.24 He that loveth me not keepeth not my words: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father’s who sent me.25 These things have I spoken unto you, while yet abiding with you.26 But the Comforter, even the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said unto you.27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful.28 Ye heard how I said to you, I go away, and I come unto you. If ye loved me, ye would have rejoiced, because I go unto the Father: for the Father is greater than I.29 And now I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe.30 I will no more speak much with you, for the prince of the world cometh: and he hath nothing in me;31 but that the world may know that I love the Father, and as the Father gave me commandment, even so I do. Arise, let us go hence.
