John 14

Jésus encourage les siens

1 »Que votre cœur ne se trouble pas! Croyez en Dieu, croyez aussi en moi.2 Il y a beaucoup de demeures dans la maison de mon Père. Si ce n'était pas le cas, je vous l'aurais dit. Je vais vous préparer une place.3 Et puisque je vais vous préparer une place, je reviendrai et je vous prendrai avec moi afin que, là où je suis, vous y soyez aussi.

4 Vous savez où je vais et vous en savez le chemin.»
5 Thomas lui dit: «Seigneur, nous ne savons pas où tu vas. Comment pouvons-nous en savoir le chemin?»6 Jésus lui dit: «C'est moi qui suis le chemin, la vérité et la vie. On ne vient au Père qu'en passant par moi.

7 Si vous me connaissiez, vous connaîtriez aussi mon Père. Et dès maintenant vous le connaissez et vous l'avez vu.»
8 Philippe lui dit: «Seigneur, montre-nous le Père, et cela nous suffit.»9 Jésus lui dit: «Il y a si longtemps que je suis avec vous et tu ne me connais pas, Philippe! Celui qui m'a vu a vu le Père. Comment peux-tu dire: 'Montre-nous le Père'?10 Ne crois-tu pas que je suis dans le Père et que le Père est en moi? Les paroles que je vous dis, je ne les dis pas de moi-même; c'est le Père qui vit en moi qui fait lui-même ces œuvres.

11 Croyez-moi: je suis dans le Père et le Père est en moi. Sinon, croyez[-moi] au moins à cause de ces œuvres!
12 »En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis, celui qui croit en moi fera aussi les œuvres que je fais, et il en fera même de plus grandes, parce que je vais vers mon Père.13 Tout ce que vous demanderez en mon nom, je le ferai afin que la gloire du Père soit révélée dans le Fils.

14 Si vous [me] demandez quelque chose en mon nom, je le ferai.

Promesse de l'envoi du Saint-Esprit

15 »Si vous m'aimez, respectez mes commandements.16 Quant à moi, je prierai le Père et il vous donnera un autre défenseur afin qu'il reste éternellement avec vous:17 l'Esprit de la vérité, que le monde ne peut pas accepter parce qu'il ne le voit pas et ne le connaît pas. [Mais] vous, vous le connaissez, car il reste avec vous et il sera en vous.18 Je ne vous laisserai pas orphelins, je reviens vers vous.19 Encore un peu de temps et le monde ne me verra plus; mais vous, vous me verrez parce que je vis et que vous vivrez aussi.20 Ce jour-là, vous saurez que je suis en mon Père, que vous êtes en moi et moi en vous.

21 Celui qui a mes commandements et qui les garde, c'est celui qui m'aime; celui qui m'aime sera aimé de mon Père et moi aussi, je l'aimerai et je me ferai connaître à lui.»
22 Jude - à distinguer de l'Iscariot - lui dit: «Seigneur, comment se fait-il que tu te feras connaître à nous et non au monde?»23 Jésus lui répondit: «Si quelqu'un m'aime, il gardera ma parole et mon Père l'aimera; nous viendrons vers lui et nous établirons domicile chez lui.

24 Celui qui ne m'aime pas ne garde pas mes paroles, et la parole que vous entendez ne vient pas de moi, mais du Père qui m'a envoyé.
25 »Je vous ai dit cela pendant que je suis encore avec vous,

26 mais le défenseur, l'Esprit saint que le Père enverra en mon nom, vous enseignera toutes choses et vous rappellera tout ce que je vous ai dit.
27 »Je vous laisse la paix, je vous donne ma paix. Je ne vous la donne pas comme le monde donne. Que votre cœur ne se trouble pas et ne se laisse pas effrayer.28 Vous avez entendu que je vous ai dit: 'Je m'en vais et je reviens vers vous.' Si vous m'aimiez, vous vous réjouiriez de ce que je vais auprès du Père, car mon Père est plus grand que moi.29 Je vous ai dit ces choses maintenant, avant qu'elles n'arrivent, afin que, lorsqu'elles arriveront, vous croyiez.30 Je ne parlerai plus beaucoup avec vous, car le prince du monde vient, et il n'a rien en moi.

31 Cependant, ainsi, le monde saura que j'aime le Père et que j'agis conformément à l'ordre que le Père m'a donné. Levez-vous, partons d'ici.

1 Let not your heart be troubled: believe in God, believe also in me.2 In my Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you.3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I come again, and will receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.4 And whither I go, ye know the way.5 Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; how know we the way?6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, and the truth, and the life: no one cometh unto the Father, but by me.7 If ye had known me, ye would have known my Father also: from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.8 Philip saith unto him, Lord, show us the Father, and it sufficeth us.9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and dost thou not know me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; how sayest thou, Show us the Father?10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I say unto you I speak not from myself: but the Father abiding in me doeth his works.11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake.12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto the Father.13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.14 If ye shall ask anything in my name, that will I do.15 If ye love me, ye will keep my commandments.16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may be with you for ever,17 even the Spirit of truth: whom the world cannot receive; for it beholdeth him not, neither knoweth him: ye know him; for he abideth with you, and shall be in you.18 I will not leave you desolate: I come unto you.19 Yet a little while, and the world beholdeth me no more; but ye behold me: because I live, ye shall live also.20 In that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself unto him.22 Judas (not Iscariot) saith unto him, Lord, what is come to pass that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world?23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my word: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.24 He that loveth me not keepeth not my words: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father’s who sent me.25 These things have I spoken unto you, while yet abiding with you.26 But the Comforter, even the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said unto you.27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful.28 Ye heard how I said to you, I go away, and I come unto you. If ye loved me, ye would have rejoiced, because I go unto the Father: for the Father is greater than I.29 And now I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe.30 I will no more speak much with you, for the prince of the world cometh: and he hath nothing in me;31 but that the world may know that I love the Father, and as the Father gave me commandment, even so I do. Arise, let us go hence.
