Jesús, camino, verdad y vida

1 No estén angustiados. Confíen en Dios y confíen también en mí.t 2 En la casa de mi Padre hay lugar para todos; de no ser así, ya se lo habría dicho; ahora voy a prepararles ese lugar. 3 Una vez que me haya ido y les haya preparado el lugar, volveré y los llevaré conmigo, para que puedan estar donde esté yo.t

4 Y ya saben el camino para ir a donde yo voy.

5 Tomás replicó:
— Pero, Señor, no sabemos a dónde vas, ¿cómo vamos a saber el camino?

6 Jesús le dijo:
— Yo soy el camino, la verdad y la vida. Nadie puede llegar hasta el Padre si no es por mí.t

7 Si me conocen a mí, conoceránt también a mi Padre, a quien en realidad ya desde ahora conocen y han visto.t

8 Entonces intervino Felipe:
— Señor, muéstranos al Padre; con eso nos conformamos.

9 Jesús le contestó:
— Llevo tanto tiempo viviendo con ustedes, ¿y aún no me conocen, Felipe? El que me ve a mí, ve al Padre. Y si es así, ¿cómo me pides que les muestre al Padre? 10 ¿No crees que yo estoy en el Padre y el Padre en mí? Lo que yo les he enseñado no ha sido por mi propia cuenta. Es el Padre quien realiza sus obras viviendo en mí.t 11 Deben creerme cuando afirmo que yo estoy en el Padre y el Padre está en mí. Den crédito, al menos, a las obras que hago.t 12 Les aseguro que el que crea en mí hará también lo que yo hago, e incluso cosas mayores. Porque yo me voy al Padret 13 y todo lo que pidan en mi nombre se lo concederé a ustedes, para que en el Hijo se manifieste la gloria del Padre.t

14 Lo que pidan en mi nombre, yo se lo concederé.

La promesa del Espíritu

17 el Espíritu de la verdad a quien los que son del mundot no pueden recibir porque no lo ven ni lo conocen; ustedes, en cambio, sí lo conocen, porque vive en ustedes y está en medio de ustedes.
18 No los dejaré huérfanos; volveré a estar con ustedes.t 19 Los que son del mundo dejarán de verme dentro de poco; pero ustedes seguirán viéndome, porque la vida que yo tengo la tendrán también ustedes.t 20 Cuando llegue aquel díat, comprenderán que yo estoy en mi Padre; ustedes en mí y yo en ustedes.t

21 El que acepta mis mandamientos y los cumple, es el que me ama de verdad; y el que me ama será amado por mi Padre, y también yo lo amaré y me manifestaré a él.t

22 Judas, no el Iscariotet, sino el otro, le preguntó:
— Señor, ¿cuál es la razón de manifestarte sólo a nosotros y no a los que son del mundo?t

23 Jesús le contestó:
— El que me ama de verdad se mantendrá fiel a mi mensaje; mi Padre lo amará, y mi Padre y yo vendremos a él y haremos en él nuestra morada.t 24 Por el contrario, el que no me ama no se mantiene fiel a mi mensaje. Y este mensaje que les transmito a ustedes no es mío; es del Padre que me envió. 25 Les he dicho todo esto durante el tiempo de mi permanencia entre ustedes.

26 Pero el Abogado, el Espíritu Santo, a quien el Padre enviará en mi nombre, hará que ustedes recuerden cuanto yo les he enseñado y él se lo explicará todo.t
27 Les dejo la pazt, mi paz se la doy. Una paz que no es la que el mundo da. No vivan angustiados ni tengan miedo.t 28 Ya han oído lo que les he dicho: “Me voy, pero volveré a estar con ustedes”. Si de verdad me aman, deben alegrarse de que vaya al Padre, porque el Padre es mayor que yo.t 29 Se lo he dicho a ustedes ahora, por adelantado, para que, cuando suceda, no duden en creer.t 30 Ya no hablaré mucho con ustedes, porque se acerca el que tiraniza a este mundo. Cierto que no tiene ningún poder sobre mí;t 31 pero tiene que ser así para demostrar al mundo que yo amo al Padre y que cumplo fielmente la misión que me encomendó. Levántense. Vámonos de aquí.t

Jesus’ Parting Words to His Disciples

1 “Do not let your hearts be distressed.s You believe in God;t believe also in me.2 There are many dwelling placest in my Father’s house.s Otherwise, I would have told you, becausests I am going away to make readyt a place for you.t3 And if I go and make readyt a place for you, I will come again and take yout to be with me,t so that where I am you may be too.

4 And you know the way where I am going.”ss
5 Thomas said,t “Lord, we don’t know where you are going. How can we know the way?”6 Jesus replied,t “I am the way, and the truth, and the life.t No one comes to the Father except through me.

7 If you have known me, you will know my Father too.s And from now on you do know him and have seen him.”
8 Philip said,t “Lord, show us the Father, and we will be content.”t9 Jesus replied,t “Have I been with you for so long, and you have not knownt me, Philip? The person who has seen me has seen the Father! How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in me?t The words that I say to you, I do not speak on my own initiative,t but the Father residing in me performst his miraculous deeds.ts11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father is in me, but if you do not believe me,t believe because of the miraculous deedsts themselves.12 I tell you the solemn truth,t the person who believes in me will performt the miraculous deedst that I am doing,ts and will performt greater deedsts than these, because I am going to the Father.13 And I will do whatever you ask in my name,t so that the Father may be glorifiedt in the Son.

14 If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.

Teaching on the Holy Spirit

15 “If you love me, you will obeyt my commandments.s16 Thent I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocatet to be with you forever –

17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot accept,t because it does not see him or know him. But you know him, because he residest with you and will bes in you.
18 “I will not abandont you as orphans,t I will come to you.s19 In a little whilet the world will not see me any longer, but you will see me; because I live, you will live too.20 You will know at that timets that I am in my Father and you are in me and I am in you.

21 The person who has my commandments and obeyst them is the one who loves me.t The onet who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and will revealt myself to him.”
22 “Lord,” Judas (not Judas Iscariot)ts said,t “what has happened that you are going to revealts yourself to us and not to the world?”23 Jesus replied,t “If anyone loves me, he will obeyt my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and take up residence with him.t

24 The person who does not love me does not obeyt my words. And the wordt you hear is not mine, but the Father’s who sent me.
25 “I have spoken these things while stayingt with you.

26 But the Advocate,t the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach yout everything,t and will cause you to remember everythingt I said to you.
27 “Peace I leave with you;s my peace I give to you; I do not give itt to you as the world does.t Do not let your hearts be distressed or lacking in courage.t28 You heard me say to you,t ‘I am going away and I am coming back to you.’ If you loved me, you would be gladt that I am going to the Father, because the Father is greater than I am.s29 I have told you now before it happens, so that when it happens you may believe.s30 I will not speak with you much longer,t for the ruler of this world is coming.s He has no power over me,t

31 but I am doing just what the Father commanded me, so that the world may knowt that I love the Father.t Get up, let us go from here.”s
