JOHANNES 14

Die enigste pad na die Vader toe

1 "Moenie ontsteld wees nie. Hou net aan om op God te vertrou en hou ook aan om op My te vertrou.2 In die huis van my Vader is daar baie kamers. As dit nie só was nie, sou Ek dit aan julle gesê het. Ek gaan soontoe om vir julle plek gereed te maak.3 En as Ek gegaan en vir julle plek ingerig het, kom Ek terug en sal julle na My toe neem sodat julle ook kan wees waar Ek is.

4 Julle weet mos waarheen Ek gaan, en hoe om daar te kom."

5 Tomas sê vir Jesus: "Here, ons weet nie waarheen U gaan nie; hoe kan ons dan die pad daarheen ken?"
6 Jesus sê vir hom: "Ek is die weg en die waarheid en die lewe. Niemand kom by die Vader uit behalwe deur My nie.

7 As julle My ken, sou julle my Vader ook geken het. Van nou af ken julle Hom en het julle Hom reeds gesien."

8 Toe sê Filippus: "Here, wys ons net die Vader en dit is vir ons genoeg."
9 Jesus antwoord hom só: "Ek is al vir só 'n lang tyd by julle, Filippus, en jy ken My nog nie? Wie My reeds gesien het, het ook reeds my Vader gesien. Hoe sê jy dan: 'Wys ons die Vader?'10 Glo jy dan nie dat Ek in 'n hegte verhouding met die Vader leef en Hy met My nie? Die gedagtes wat Ek met julle deel, kom nie uit Myself nie, maar dit kom van die Vader wat in My bly en deur My sy werke uitvoer.

11 Glo in My omdat Ek in 'n hegte verhouding leef met die Vader en Hy met My; so nie, glo dan net op grond van hierdie werke self.
12 "Ek verseker julle, wie aanhou glo in My, sal ook die werke doen wat Ek doen; hy sal selfs nog groter dinge as dit doen, omdat Ek na die Vader toe op pad is.13 Wat julle ook al sou vra in my Naam, dit sal Ek doen sodat die Vader deur die optrede van die Seun verheerlik word.

14 As julle My enigiets in my Naam vra, sal Ek dit beslis doen."

Jesus belowe die Heilige Gees

15 "As julle My liefhet, sal julle my opdragte gehoorsaam.16 En Ek sal die Vader vra en Hy sal vir julle 'n ander Raadgewer stuur om vir altyd by julle te wees;

17 dit is die Gees van die waarheid. Die wêreld is nie in staat om Hom te ontvang nie omdat hy Hom nie sien of ken nie. Julle ken Hom egter, omdat Hy by julle gaan bly en in julle sal woon.
18 "Ek sal julle nie soos wesies in die steek laat nie; Ek kom terug na julle toe.19 Nog net 'n klein tydjie en die wêreld sien My nie meer nie, maar julle sien My nog, omdat Ek lewe en julle sal lewe.

20 Op daardie selfde dag sal julle goed weet dat Ek in 'n hegte verhouding met my Vader leef, en julle met My, en Ek met julle.

21 "Wie my opdragte onderhou en hulle gehoorsaam, dít is die persoon wat My liefhet. Wie My liefhet, hom sal my Vader ook liefhê, en Ek sal hom ook liefhê en Myself aan hom bekendmaak."
22 Judas, nie Judas Iskariot nie, vra toe vir Jesus: "Here, wat het gebeur dat U Uself aan ons wil bekendmaak, maar nie aan die wêreld nie?"23 Jesus antwoord hom toe: "As iemand My liefhet, sal hy my boodskap gehoorsaam uitvoer; en my Vader sal hom ook liefhê en Ons sal na hom toe kom en by hom tuisgaan.24 Wie My egter nie liefhet nie, is nie gehoorsaam aan my woorde nie. Die boodskap wat julle hoor, is nie Myne nie, maar die Vader s'n wat My gestuur het.25 Ek sê dit nou al lank vir julle, terwyl Ek nog by julle is;

26 en wanneer die Raadgewer, die Heilige Gees, kom wat die Vader in my Naam sal stuur, sal Hy julle in alle opsigte onderrig en julle ook herinner aan alles wat Ek vir julle gesê het.
27 "Ek laat vir julle vrede na; my vrede deel Ek met julle. Ek gee nie soos die wêreld gee nie. Julle moet nie ontsteld of beangs word nie.28 Julle het gehoor dat Ek vir julle gesê het: Ek gaan weg, en kom weer terug na julle toe. As julle My liefhet, sou julle opgewonde gewees het dat Ek na die Vader toe gaan, omdat die Vader groter is as Ek.

29 Ek sê dit nou al solank vir julle, nog voordat dit gaan gebeur, sodat julle moet glo wanneer dit ook al gebeur.
30 "Ek sal nie meer baie langer met julle praat nie, want die regeerder van hierdie wêreld is op pad, alhoewel hy geen houvas op My het nie.

31 Die wêreld moet weet dat Ek die Vader liefhet en daarom nougeset doen wat die Vader aan My opgedra het. Staan op, laat ons hiervandaan vertrek!"

JOHN 14

Jesus Is the Way //to the Father

1 Jesus said to his disciples, “Don't be worried! Have faith in God and have faith in me.t 2 There are many rooms in my Father's house. I wouldn't tell you this, unless it was true. I am going there to prepare a place for each of you. 3 After I have done this, I will come back and take you with me. Then we will be together.

4 You know the way to where I am going.”

5 Thomas said, “Lord, we don't even know where you are going! How can we know the way?”
6  t “I am the way, the truth, and the life!” Jesus answered. “Without me, no one can go to the Father.

7 If you had really known me, you would have known the Father. But from now on, you do know him, and you have seen him.”

8 Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father. That is all we need.”

9 Jesus replied:
Philip, I have been with you for a long time. Don't you know who I am? If you have seen me, you have seen the Father. How can you ask me to show you the Father?

10 Don't you believe that I am one with the Father and that the Father is one with me? What I say isn't said on my own. The Father who lives in me does these things.
11 Have faith in me when I say that the Father is one with me and that I am one with the Father. Or else have faith in me simply because of the things I do. 12 I tell you for certain that if you have faith in me, you will do the same things I am doing. You will do even greater things, now that I am going back to the Father. 13 Ask me, and I will do whatever you ask. This way the Son will bring honor to the Father.

14 I will do whatever you ask me to do.

The Holy Spirit Is Promised

15  t Jesus said to his disciples:
If you love me, you will do as I command. 16 Then I will ask the Father to send you the Holy Spirit who will helpt you and always be with you.

17 The Spirit will show you what is true. The people of this world cannot accept the Spirit, because they don't see or know him. But you know the Spirit, who is with you and will keep on living in you.
18 I won't leave you like orphans. I will come back to you. 19 In a little while the people of this world won't be able to see me, but you will see me. And because I live, you will live. 20 Then you will know I am one with the Father. You will know you are one with me, and I am one with you.

21 t If you love me, you will do what I have said, and my Father will love you. I will also love you and show you what I am like.

22 The other Judas, not Judas Iscariot, t then spoke up and asked, “Lord, what do you mean by saying that you will show us what you are like, but you will not show the people of this world?”

23 Jesus replied:
If anyone loves me, they will obey me. Then my Father will love them, and we will come to them and live in them.

24 But anyone who doesn't love me, won't obey me. What they have heard me say doesn't really come from me, but from the Father who sent me.
25 I have told you these things while I am still with you.

26 But the Holy Spirit will come and helpt you, because the Father will send the Spirit to take my place. The Spirit will teach you everything and will remind you of what I said while I was with you.

27 I give you peace, the kind of peace only I can give. It isn't like the peace this world can give. So don't be worried or afraid.

28 You have already heard me say I am going and I will also come back to you. If you really love me, you should be glad I am going back to the Father, because he is greater than I am.
29 I am telling you this before I leave, so when it does happen, you will have faith in me. 30 I cannot speak with you much longer, because the ruler of this world is coming. But he has no power over me.

31 I obey my Father, so everyone in the world might know that I love him.
It is time for us to go now.
