JUAN 16
1 “Os digo estas cosas para que no perdáis vuestra fe en mí.t 2 Os expulsarán de las sinagogas,t e incluso llegará el momento en que cualquiera que os mate creerá que le está prestando un servicio a Dios.t 3 Eso lo harán porque no nos han conocido ni al Padre ni a mí.
4 Os digo esto para que, cuando llegue el momento, os acordéis de que ya os lo había dicho.La actividad del Espíritu Santo
“No os dije esto al principio porque yo estaba con vosotros. 5 Pero ahora me voy para estar con el que me envió, y ninguno de vosotros me pregunta a dónde voy; 6 al contrario, os habéis puesto muy tristes porque os he dicho estas cosas. 7 Pero os digo la verdad: es mejor para vosotros que me vaya. Porque si no me voy, el defensort no vendrá a vosotros; pero si me voy, os lo enviaré. 8 Cuando él venga, mostrará claramente a la gente del mundo dónde está la culpa, dónde la inocencia y dónde el juicio. 9 La culpa la mostrará en ellos, porque no creen en mí;t 10 la inocencia, en mí, porque voy al Padre y ya no me veréis;
11 y el juicio, en el que manda en este mundo, porque ya ha sido condenado.t
12 “Tengo mucho más que deciros, pero en este momento sería demasiado para vosotros. 13 Cuando venga el Espíritu de la verdad, os guiará a toda la verdad, porque no hablará por su propia cuenta, sino que dirá todo lo que oye y os hará saber las cosas que van a suceder. 14 Él me honrará, porque recibirá de lo que es mío y os lo dará a conocer.
15 Todo lo que tiene el Padre, también es mío; por eso os he dicho que el Espíritu recibirá de lo que es mío y os lo dará a conocer.
16 “Dentro de poco ya no me veréis, pero un poco más tarde volveréis a verme.”tLa tristeza se convertirá en alegría
17 Algunos de los discípulos de Jesús se preguntaban unos a otros:
–¿Qué quiere decir con eso? Nos dice que dentro de poco no le veremos, y que un poco más tarde le volveremos a ver, y que es porque va al Padre.
18 ¿Qué significa ‘dentro de poco’? No entendemos de qué está hablando.
19 Jesús, dándose cuenta de que querían hacerle preguntas, les dijo:
–Os he dicho que dentro de poco no me veréis, y que un poco más tarde me volveréis a ver: ¿es eso lo que os estáis preguntando? 20 Os aseguro que vosotros lloraréis y estaréis tristes, mientras que la gente del mundo se alegrará. Sin embargo, aunque estéis tristes, vuestra tristeza se convertirá en alegría. 21 Cuando una mujer va a dar a luz, se angustia, porque le ha llegado la hora; pero cuando ya ha nacido la criatura, la madre se olvida del dolor a causa de la alegría de que un niño haya venido al mundo.
22 Así también, vosotros os angustiáis ahora, pero yo volveré a veros y entonces vuestro corazón se llenará de alegría, de una alegría que nadie os podrá quitar.t
23 “Aquel día ya no me preguntaréis nada. Os aseguro que el Padre os dará todo lo que le pidáis en mi nombre.
24 Hasta ahora no habéis pedido nada en mi nombre: pedid y recibiréis, para que vuestra alegría sea completa.tJesucristo, vencedor del mundo
25 “Os he dicho estas cosas por medio de comparaciones, pero viene la hora en que ya no usaré comparaciones, sino que os hablaré claramente acerca del Padre. 26 Aquel día le pediréis en mi nombre, y no os digo que yo rogaré por vosotros al Padre, 27 porque el Padre mismo os ama. Os ama porque vosotros me amáis a mí y habéis creído que he venido de Dios.
28 Salí del Padre para venir a este mundo, y ahora dejo el mundo para volver al Padre.”t
29 Entonces dijeron sus discípulos:
–Ahora estás hablando con claridad, sin usar comparaciones.
30 Ahora vemos que sabes todas las cosas y que no es necesario que nadie te haga preguntas. Por esto creemos que has venido de Dios.
31 Jesús les contestó:
–¿Así que ahora creéis? 32 Pues llega la hora, y ya es ahora mismo, cuando os dispersaréis cada uno por su lado,t y me dejaréis solo. Aunque no estoy solo, puesto que el Padre está conmigo. 33 Os digo todo esto para que encontréis paz en vuestra unión conmigo. En el mundo habréis de sufrir, pero tened valor, yo he vencido al mundo.t
John 16
1 “I have told you all these things so that you will not fall away.ts2 They will put you out oft the synagogue,s yet a timet is coming when the one who kills you will think he is offering service to God.s3 Theyt will do these things because they have not known the Father or me.s
4 But I have told you these thingst so that when their timet comes, you will remember that I told you about them.t
“I did not tell you these things from the beginning because I was with you.s5 But now I am going to the one who sent me,s and not one of you is asking me, ‘Where are you going?’s6 Instead your hearts are filled with sadnesst because I have said these things to you.7 But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I am going away. For if I do not go away, the Advocatet will not come to you, but if I go, I will send him to you.8 And when het comes, he will prove the world wrongt concerning sin andt righteousness andt judgment –9 concerning sin, becauset they do not believe in me;s10 concerning righteousness,t becauset I am going to the Father and you will see me no longer;
11 and concerning judgment,s becauset the ruler of this worlds has been condemned.t
12 “I have many more things to say to you,s but you cannot beart them now.13 But when he,t the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guidet you into all truth.s For he will not speak on his own authority,t but will speak whatever he hears, and will tell yout what is to come.t14 Het will glorify me,t because he will receivet from me what is minet and will tell it to you.t15 Everything that the Father has is mine; that is why I said the Spiritt will receive from me what is minet and will tell it to you.t
16 In a little while yout will see me no longer; again after a little while, yout will see me.”s
17 Then some of his disciples said to one another, “What is the meaning of what he is saying,t ‘In a little while yout will not see me; again after a little while, yout will see me,’ and, ‘because I am going to the Father’?”s
18 So they kept on repeating,t “What is the meaning of what he says,t ‘In a little while’?t We do not understandt what he is talking about.”t
19 Jesus could seets that they wanted to ask him about these things,t sot he said to them, “Are you askingt each other about this – that I said, ‘In a little while yout will not see me; again after a little while, yout will see me’?20 I tell you the solemn truth,t you will weept and wail,t but the world will rejoice; you will be sad,t but your sadness will turn intot joy.21 When a woman gives birth, she has distresss because her timet has come, but when her child is born, she no longer remembers the suffering because of her joy that a human beingt has been born into the world.s22 So also you have sorrowt now, but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy away from you.s23 At that timet you will ask me nothing. I tell you the solemn truth,t whatever you ask the Father in my name he will give you.s
24 Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive it,t so that your joy may be complete.
25 “I have told you these things in obscure figures of speech;t a timet is coming when I will no longer speak to you in obscure figures, but will tell yout plainlyt about the Father.26 At that timet you will ask in my name, and I do not sayt that I will ask the Father on your behalf.27 For the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me and have believed that I came from God.s
28 I came from the Father and entered into the world, but in turn,t I am leaving the world and going back to the Father.”s
29 His disciples said, “Look, now you are speaking plainlyt and not in obscure figures of speech!ts
30 Now we know that you know everythingt and do not need anyonet to ask you anything.t Because of thist we believe that you have come from God.”
31 Jesus replied,t “Do you now believe?32 Look, a timet is coming – and has come – when you will be scattered, each one to his own home,t and I will be left alone.s Yett I am not alone, because my Fathert is with me.
33 I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace. In the world you have trouble and suffering,t but take couraget – I have conquered the world.”ts
