ยอห์น 16

1 "เราบอกสิ่งเหล่านี้แก่ท่านทั้งหลาย ก็เพื่อไม่ให้ท่านสะดุดใจ2 เขาจะไล่ท่านเสียจากธรรมศาลา แท้จริงวันหนึ่งคนใดที่ประหารชีวิตของท่านจะคิดว่า เขาทำการนั้นเป็นการปฏิบัติพระเจ้า3 เขาจะกระทำดังนั้นแก่ท่านเพราะเขาไม่รู้จักพระบิดาและไม่รู้จักเรา4 แต่ที่เราบอกสิ่งเหล่านี้แก่ท่านก็เพื่อว่าเมื่อถึงเวลานั้น ท่านจะได้ระลึกว่าเราได้บอกท่านไว้แล้ว และเรามิได้บอกเรื่องนี้แก่ท่านทั้งหลายแต่แรก เพราะว่าเรายังอยู่กับท่าน5 แต่บัดนี้เรากำลังจะไปหาพระองค์ผู้ทรงใช้เรามา และไม่มีใครในพวกท่านถามเราว่า `พระองค์จะเสด็จไปที่ไหน'6 แต่เพราะเราได้บอกเรื่องนี้แก่พวกท่าน จิตใจของท่านจึงเต็มด้วยความทุกข์โศก7 อย่างไรก็ตามเราบอกความจริงแก่ท่านทั้งหลาย คือการที่เราจากไปนั้นก็เพื่อประโยชน์ของท่าน เพราะถ้าเราไม่ไป พระองค์ผู้ปลอบประโลมใจก็จะไม่เสด็จมาหาท่าน แต่ถ้าเราไปแล้ว เราก็จะใช้พระองค์มาหาท่าน8 เมื่อพระองค์นั้นเสด็จมาแล้ว พระองค์จะทรงกระทำให้โลกรู้สึกถึงความผิดบาป และถึงความชอบธรรม และถึงการพิพากษา9 ถึงความผิดบาปนั้น คือเพราะเขาไม่เชื่อในเรา10 ถึงความชอบธรรมนั้น คือเพราะเราไปหาพระบิดาของเรา และท่านทั้งหลายจะไม่เห็นเราอีก11 ถึงการพิพากษานั้น คือเพราะผู้ครองโลกนี้ถูกพิพากษาแล้ว12 เรายังมีอีกหลายสิ่งที่จะบอกท่านทั้งหลาย แต่เดี๋ยวนี้ท่านยังรับไว้ไม่ได้13 เมื่อพระองค์ พระวิญญาณแห่งความจริงจะเสด็จมาแล้ว พระองค์จะนำท่านทั้งหลายไปสู่ความจริงทั้งมวล เพราะพระองค์จะไม่ตรัสโดยพระองค์เอง แต่พระองค์จะตรัสสิ่งที่พระองค์ทรงได้ยิน และพระองค์จะทรงแจ้งให้ท่านทั้งหลายรู้ถึงสิ่งเหล่านั้นที่จะเกิดขึ้น14 พระองค์จะทรงให้เราได้รับเกียรติ เพราะว่าพระองค์จะทรงเอาสิ่งที่เป็นของเรามาสำแดงแก่ท่านทั้งหลาย15 ทุกสิ่งที่พระบิดาทรงมีนั้นเป็นของเรา เหตุฉะนั้นเราจึงกล่าวว่า พระวิญญาณทรงเอาสิ่งซึ่งเป็นของเรานั้นมาสำแดงแก่ท่านทั้งหลาย16 อีกหน่อยท่านทั้งหลายก็จะไม่เห็นเรา และต่อไปอีกหน่อยท่านก็จะเห็นเรา เพราะเราไปถึงพระบิดา"17 สาวกบางคนของพระองค์จึงพูดกันว่า "ที่พระองค์ตรัสกับเราว่า `อีกหน่อยท่านทั้งหลายก็จะไม่เห็นเรา และต่อไปอีกหน่อยท่านก็จะเห็นเรา' และ `เพราะเราไปถึงพระบิดา' เหล่านี้หมายความว่าอะไร"18 เขาจึงพูดกันว่า "นั้นหมายความว่าอะไรที่พระองค์ตรัสว่า `อีกหน่อย' เราไม่ทราบว่า สิ่งที่พระองค์ตรัสนั้นหมายความว่าอะไร"19 พระเยซูทรงทราบว่าเขาอยากทูลถามพระองค์ จึงตรัสกับเขาว่า "ท่านทั้งหลายถามกันอยู่หรือว่า เราหมายความว่าอะไรที่พูดว่า `อีกหน่อยท่านก็จะไม่เห็นเรา และต่อไปอีกหน่อยท่านก็จะเห็นเรา'20 เราบอกความจริงแก่ท่านทั้งหลายว่า ท่านจะร้องไห้และคร่ำครวญ แต่โลกจะชื่นชมยินดี และท่านทั้งหลายจะทุกข์โศก แต่ความทุกข์โศกของท่านจะกลับกลายเป็นความชื่นชมยินดี21 เมื่อผู้หญิงกำลังจะคลอดบุตร นางก็มีความทุกข์ เพราะถึงกำหนดแล้ว แต่เมื่อคลอดบุตรแล้ว นางก็ไม่ระลึกถึงความเจ็บปวดนั้นเลย เพราะมีความชื่นชมยินดีที่คนหนึ่งเกิดมาในโลก22 ฉันใดก็ดีขณะนี้ท่านทั้งหลายมีความทุกข์โศก แต่เราจะเห็นท่านอีก และใจท่านจะชื่นชมยินดี และไม่มีผู้ใดช่วงชิงความชื่นชมยินดีไปจากท่านได้23 ในวันนั้นท่านจะไม่ถามอะไรเราอีก เราบอกความจริงแก่ท่านทั้งหลายว่า ถ้าท่านจะขอสิ่งใดจากพระบิดาในนามของเรา พระองค์จะทรงประทานสิ่งนั้นให้แก่ท่าน24 แม้จนบัดนี้ท่านยังไม่ได้ขอสิ่งใดในนามของเรา จงขอเถิดแล้วจะได้ เพื่อความชื่นชมยินดีของท่านจะมีเต็มเปี่ยม25 เราพูดเรื่องนี้กับท่านเป็นคำอุปมา แต่วันหนึ่งเราจะไม่พูดกับท่านเป็นคำอุปมาอีก แต่จะบอกท่านถึงเรื่องพระบิดาอย่างแจ่มแจ้ง26 ในวันนั้นพวกท่านจะทูลขอในนามของเรา และเราจะไม่บอกท่านว่า เราจะอ้อนวอนพระบิดาเพื่อท่าน27 เพราะว่าพระบิดาเองก็ทรงรักท่านทั้งหลาย เพราะท่านรักเราและเชื่อว่าเรามาจากพระเจ้า28 เรามาจากพระบิดาและได้เข้ามาในโลกแล้ว เราจะจากโลกนี้ไปถึงพระบิดาอีก"29 เหล่าสาวกของพระองค์ทูลพระองค์ว่า "ดูเถิด บัดนี้พระองค์ตรัสอย่างแจ่มแจ้งแล้ว มิได้ตรัสเป็นคำอุปมา30 เดี๋ยวนี้พวกข้าพระองค์รู้แน่ว่า พระองค์ทรงทราบทุกสิ่ง และไม่จำเป็นที่ผู้ใดจะทูลถามพระองค์อีก ด้วยเหตุนี้ข้าพระองค์เชื่อว่าพระองค์ทรงมาจากพระเจ้า"31 พระเยซูตรัสตอบเขาว่า "เดี๋ยวนี้ท่านทั้งหลายเชื่อแล้วหรือ32 ดูเถิด เวลาจะมา เวลานั้นก็ถึงแล้ว ที่ท่านจะต้องกระจัดกระจายไปยังที่ของท่านทุกคน และจะทิ้งเราไว้แต่ผู้เดียว แต่เราหาได้อยู่ผู้เดียวไม่ เพราะพระบิดาทรงสถิตอยู่กับเรา33 เราได้บอกเรื่องนี้แก่ท่าน เพื่อท่านจะได้มีสันติสุขในเรา ในโลกนี้ท่านจะประสบความทุกข์ยาก แต่จงชื่นใจเถิด เพราะว่าเราได้ชนะโลกแล้ว"

JOHN 16

1 I am telling you these things, so that you will not turn away. 2 You will be chased out of the synagogues. And the time will come when people will kill you and think they are doing God a favor. 3 They will do these things because they don't know either the Father or me.

4 I am saying this to you now, so that when the time comes, you will remember what I have said.

The Work of the Holy Spirit

7 But I tell you I am going to do what is best for you. This is why I am going away. The Holy Spirit cannot come to helpt you until I leave. But after I am gone, I will send the Spirit to you.
8 The Spirit will come and show the people of this world the truth about sin and God's justice and the judgment. 9 The Spirit will show them that they are wrong about sin, because they didn't have faith in me. 10 They are wrong about God's justice, because I am going to the Father, and you won't see me again.

11 And they are wrong about the judgment, because God has already judged the ruler of this world.
12 I have much more to say to you, but right now it would be more than you could understand. 13 t The Spirit shows what is true and will come and guide you into the full truth. The Spirit doesn't speak on his own. He will tell you only what he has heard from me, and he will let you know what is going to happen. 14 The Spirit will bring glory to me by taking my message and telling it to you.

15 Everything the Father has is mine. This is why I have said that the Spirit takes my message and tells it to you.

Sorrow Will Turn into Joy

16 Jesus told his disciples, “For a little while you won't see me, but after a while you will see me.”
17 They said to each other, “What does Jesus mean by saying that for a little while we won't see him, but after a while we will see him? What does he mean by saying he is going to the Father?

18 What is this ‘little while’ that he is talking about? We don't know what he means.”

19 Jesus knew they had some questions, so he said:
You are wondering what I meant when I said that for a little while you won't see me, but after a while you will see me.

20 I tell you for certain that you will cry and be sad, but the world will be happy. You will be sad, but later you will be happy.
21 When a woman is about to give birth, she is in great pain. But after it is all over, she forgets the pain and is happy, because she has brought a child into the world. 22 You are now very sad. But later I will see you, and you will be so happy that no one will be able to change the way you feel. 23 When that time comes, you won't have to ask me about anything. I tell you for certain the Father will give you whatever you ask for in my name.

24 You have not asked for anything in this way before, but now you must ask in my name.t Then it will be given to you, so you will be completely happy.
25 I have used examples to explain to you what I have been talking about. But the time will come when I will speak to you plainly about the Father and will no longer use examples like these. 26 You will ask the Father in my name, t and I won't have to ask him for you. 27 God the Father loves you because you love me, and you believe I have come from him.

28 I came from the Father into the world, but I am leaving the world and returning to the Father.
29 The disciples said, “Now you are speaking plainly to us! You are not using examples.

30 At last we know that you understand everything, and we don't have any more questions. Now we believe you truly have come from God.”

31 Jesus replied:
Do you really believe me? 32 The time will come and is already here when all of you will be scattered. Each of you will go back home and leave me by myself. But the Father will be with me, and I won't be alone. 33 I have told you this, so that you might have peace in your hearts because of me. While you are in the world, you will have to suffer. But cheer up! I have defeated the world.t
