1 Toto jsem vám pověděl, abyste se nenechali svést. 2 Vyobcují vás ze shromáždění. Ano, přichází doba, kdy každý, kdo vás bude zabíjet, si bude myslet, že tím slouží Bohu. 3 Budou to dělat, protože nepoznali Otce ani mě. 4 Předpověděl jsem vám to, abyste si v té době vzpomněli, že jsem vám to řekl. Zpočátku jsem vám to neříkal, protože jsem byl s vámi.“

Duch pravdy

5 „Teď odcházím k Tomu, který mě poslal, a nikdo z vás se mě neptá: ‚Kam jdeš?‘ 6 Kvůli tomu, co jsem vám řekl, naplnil vaše srdce zármutek. 7 Říkám vám ale pravdu: Je pro vás lepší, abych odešel. Když neodejdu, nepřijde k vám Utěšitel; když ale odejdu, pošlu ho k vám. 8 Až přijde, odhalí světu, v čem je hřích, spravedlnost a soud. 9 Hřích, že nevěří ve mne; 10 spravedlnost, že jdu k Otci a už mě neuvidíte; 11 a soud, že vládce tohoto světa je již odsouzen.

12 Ještě vám mám mnoho co říci, ale teď to nemůžete unést. 13 Až ale přijde on, Duch pravdy, uvede vás do veškeré pravdy. Nebude totiž mluvit sám od sebe, ale řekne vše, co uslyší – oznámí vám i věci budoucí. 14 On mě oslaví, neboť vám oznámí, co přijme ode mě. 15 Všechno, co má Otec, je mé. Proto jsem řekl, že vám oznámí, co přijme ode mě.

16 Za okamžik mě už neuvidíte a za další okamžik mě znovu spatříte.“

Úzkost se obrátí v radost

17 Někteří z jeho učedníků se začali jeden druhého ptát: „Co tím chce říci? Prý: ‚Za okamžik mě už neuvidíte a za další okamžik mě spatříte‘ a: ‚Odcházím k Otci.‘ 18 Co tím myslí, když říká: ‚Za okamžik‘? Nevíme, o čem mluví.“

19 Ježíš poznal, že se ho chtěli zeptat, a tak jim řekl: „Dohadujete se o tom, že jsem řekl: ‚Za okamžik mě už neuvidíte a za další okamžik mě spatříte‘? 20 Amen, amen, říkám vám, že budete plakat a naříkat, ale svět se bude radovat. Budete se trápit, ale vaše úzkost se obrátí v radost. 21 Když žena rodí, zakouší úzkost, protože přišla její chvilka. Poté, co porodí děťátko, ale na trápení zapomene pro radost, že se na svět narodil člověk. 22 I vy teď zakoušíte úzkost, ale až se znovu uvidíme, vaše srdce bude jásat radostí a tu radost vám nikdo nevezme.

23 V ten den se mě nebudete ptát na nic. Amen, amen, říkám vám, že o cokoli poprosíte Otce v mém jménu, to vám dá. 24 Až dosud jste v mém jménu o nic neprosili. Proste a dostanete, a vaše radost bude dokonalá. 25 Dosud jsem k vám mluvil obrazně. Přichází chvíle, kdy k vám už nebudu o Otci mluvit obrazně, ale otevřeně.

26 V ten den budete prosit v mém jménu a neříkám, že budu prosit Otce za vás. 27 Sám Otec vás totiž miluje, protože jste milovali mě a uvěřili jste, že jsem vyšel od Boha. 28 Vyšel jsem od Otce a přišel jsem na svět. Teď zase opouštím svět a jdu k Otci.“

29 Jeho učedníci mu řekli: „Hle, teď už nemluvíš obrazně, ale otevřeně! 30 Teď víme, že víš všechno a není třeba, aby se tě někdo vyptával. Teď věříme, že jsi vyšel od Boha.“

31 „Teď věříte?“ opáčil Ježíš. 32 „Hle, přichází chvíle, a už přišla, kdy se rozprchnete každý svou cestou. Necháte mě samotného, ale nejsem sám, protože je se mnou Otec. 33 Toto vše jsem vám pověděl, abyste ve mně nalezli pokoj. Na světě zakoušíte soužení, ale buďte stateční – já jsem přemohl svět.“

John 16

1 “I have told you all these things so that you will not fall away.ts2 They will put you out oft the synagogue,s yet a timet is coming when the one who kills you will think he is offering service to God.s3 Theyt will do these things because they have not known the Father or me.s

4 But I have told you these thingst so that when their timet comes, you will remember that I told you about them.t
“I did not tell you these things from the beginning because I was with you.s5 But now I am going to the one who sent me,s and not one of you is asking me, ‘Where are you going?’s6 Instead your hearts are filled with sadnesst because I have said these things to you.7 But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I am going away. For if I do not go away, the Advocatet will not come to you, but if I go, I will send him to you.8 And when het comes, he will prove the world wrongt concerning sin andt righteousness andt judgment –9 concerning sin, becauset they do not believe in me;s10 concerning righteousness,t becauset I am going to the Father and you will see me no longer;

11 and concerning judgment,s becauset the ruler of this worlds has been condemned.t
12 “I have many more things to say to you,s but you cannot beart them now.13 But when he,t the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guidet you into all truth.s For he will not speak on his own authority,t but will speak whatever he hears, and will tell yout what is to come.t14 Het will glorify me,t because he will receivet from me what is minet and will tell it to you.t15 Everything that the Father has is mine; that is why I said the Spiritt will receive from me what is minet and will tell it to you.t

16 In a little while yout will see me no longer; again after a little while, yout will see me.”s
17 Then some of his disciples said to one another, “What is the meaning of what he is saying,t ‘In a little while yout will not see me; again after a little while, yout will see me,’ and, ‘because I am going to the Father’?”s

18 So they kept on repeating,t “What is the meaning of what he says,t ‘In a little while’?t We do not understandt what he is talking about.”t
19 Jesus could seets that they wanted to ask him about these things,t sot he said to them, “Are you askingt each other about this – that I said, ‘In a little while yout will not see me; again after a little while, yout will see me’?20 I tell you the solemn truth,t you will weept and wail,t but the world will rejoice; you will be sad,t but your sadness will turn intot joy.21 When a woman gives birth, she has distresss because her timet has come, but when her child is born, she no longer remembers the suffering because of her joy that a human beingt has been born into the world.s22 So also you have sorrowt now, but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy away from you.s23 At that timet you will ask me nothing. I tell you the solemn truth,t whatever you ask the Father in my name he will give you.s

24 Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive it,t so that your joy may be complete.
25 “I have told you these things in obscure figures of speech;t a timet is coming when I will no longer speak to you in obscure figures, but will tell yout plainlyt about the Father.26 At that timet you will ask in my name, and I do not sayt that I will ask the Father on your behalf.27 For the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me and have believed that I came from God.s

28 I came from the Father and entered into the world, but in turn,t I am leaving the world and going back to the Father.”s
29 His disciples said, “Look, now you are speaking plainlyt and not in obscure figures of speech!ts

30 Now we know that you know everythingt and do not need anyonet to ask you anything.t Because of thist we believe that you have come from God.”
31 Jesus replied,t “Do you now believe?32 Look, a timet is coming – and has come – when you will be scattered, each one to his own home,t and I will be left alone.s Yett I am not alone, because my Fathert is with me.

33 I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace. In the world you have trouble and suffering,t but take couraget – I have conquered the world.”ts
