ヨハネによる福音書 19

一九

1 　しかたなくピラトは、イエスの背中を鉛のついたむちで打たせました。　2 そして兵士たちは、いばらで冠を編み、イエスの頭にかぶらせ、王の着る紫色のガウンを着せました。　3 それから、「よお、ユダヤ人の王様、ばんざーいっ！」とさんざんからかい、おまけに平手でたたいたりしたのです。
4 　ピラトはもう一度外に出て、ユダヤ人たちに念を押しました。「今、あの男を連れ出す。　だがいいか。　私の見たところでは、あの男は無罪だ。」
5 　イエスは、いばらの冠に紫色のガウンという姿のまま、出て来られました。　「よく見ろ。　この男だ」と、ピラトが言いました。
6 　「十字架につけろっ！　十字架だっ！」イエスを見るやいなや、祭司長やユダヤ人の役人たちは、大声でわめき立てました。
「そこまで言うなら、おまえたちがやれっ！　私の調べでは無罪だからな。」
7 　「こいつは自分を神の子とぬかしました。　私どもの法律では、死刑です。」
8 　このことばを聞くと、ピラトは、ますますこわくなりました。　9 もう一度、イエスを官邸へ連れ戻し、尋ねました。　「おまえはいったい、どこから来た？」しかし、イエスは、ひと言もお答えになりません。
10 　ピラトはさらに問い詰めます。　「何も言わないのか。　わからんやつだな。　私の命令ひとつで、おまえを釈放することも、十字架につけることもできるのだぞ。」
11 　イエスは言われました。　「神から与えられた権威でなければ、あなたは何も手出しはできません。　ですから、わたしをあなたに引き渡した者の罪は、もっと大きいのです。」
12 　何とかしてイエスを釈放しようと手を尽くすピラトに、ユダヤ人の指導者たちは激しく抵抗しました。　「こやつを釈放なさるおつもりで？　そんなことをしたら、あなた様はカイザル（ローマ皇帝）の味方ではありません。　だれであろうが、自分を王とする者は謀反人です。」
13 　こう言われて、ピラトは、またもやイエスを外に連れ出し、敷石〔ヘブル語では「ガバタ」〕という場所で裁判の席に着きました。　14 ちょうど、過越の祭りの前日、正午ごろのことでした。
「さあ、おまえたちの王だ。」
15 　「殺せ、殺せ。　十字架につけろっ！」
「なにっ？　おまえたちの王をか？」
「カイザルのほかに王はないっ！」祭司長たちは、むきになって叫び返します。
16 　これでは、しかたがありません。　ピラトもあきらめ、十字架につけるため、イエスをユダヤ人に引き渡しました。
十字架につけられ、埋葬されるイエス
17 　ついに、イエスはユダヤ人たちの手に落ちたのです。　イエスは、十字架を背負わされ、エルサレム市外の、「がいこつ」〔ヘブル語で「ゴルゴタ」〕という場所へ引っ立てられて行かれました。　18 人々はそこで、ほかの二人といっしょにイエスを十字架につけました。　イエスは真ん中、二人はその両側に。　19 ピラトは、イエスの頭上に、「ユダヤ人の王、ナザレのイエス」と書いた罪状書きを掲げました。　20 処刑の場所は都に近く、しかも、罪状書きはヘブル語、ラテン語、ギリシヤ語で書いてあったので、大ぜいの人が読みました。
21 　これを見た祭司長たちは、ピラトに抗議しました。　「『ユダヤ人の王』とあるのは納得がいきません。　『ユダヤ人の王と自称した』と書き直してください。」
22 　「私が書いたことに口出しする気かっ！　そのままにしておけ。」ピラトは頑として聞き入れません。
23 　さて、イエスを十字架につけてしまうと、兵士たちは、はぎ取った着物を四つに分け、一つずつ取りました。　下着もそうしようとしましたが、見ると縫い目がありません。　24 「こいつは裂くわけにいかないな。　よし、だれが取るか、くじで決めようぜ」と相談がまとまりました。　「彼らはわたしの着物を分け合い、下着をくじ引きにした」という聖書（旧約）のことばどおりになったのです。　25 兵士たちがこんなやり方をしたのも、実はそのためでした。
十字架のそばには、イエスの母マリヤ、おば、クロパの妻マリヤ、マグダラのマリヤが立っていました。　26 特に目をかけていただいた私もいっしょでした。　イエスは、私のそばに立ち尽くしているご自分の母親を見つめられ、「お母さん。　ほら、そこにあなたの息子がいますよ」とお声をかけられました。
27 　それから、弟子の私に、「さあ、あなたの母親ですよ」とおっしゃいました。　その時以来、私は先生のお母さんを家に引き取ったのです。
28 　こうして、何もかもすっかり終わったことを知ったイエスは、「わたしは渇く」と言われました。　これも　聖書（旧約）のことばどおりの出来事です。　29 そこには、ちょうど酸っぱいぶどう酒のつぼが置いてあります。　人々は、海綿を浸し、ヒソプの枝の先につけて、イエスの口もとに差し出しました。
30 　それをお受けになると、最後に「何もかもなしとげた」とひと言叫ばれ、息を引きとられたのです。
31 　まずいことに、翌日は安息日でした。　〔しかも特別に重要な日でした。〕ユダヤ人の指導者たちは、どうしても、死体を翌日まで十字架にかけっぱなしにしておきたくありません。　ピラトに、受刑者どものすねを折って早く死なせるよう取り計らってほしい、と願い出ました。　そうすれば、取り降ろせるからです。　32 さっそく兵士たちが来て、イエスといっしょに十字架につけられた二人の男のすねを折りました。　33 最後に、イエスのところに来て見上げると、すでに死んでおられます。　それで、すねを折るのはやめにしました。　34 ところが、兵士の一人が何を思ったのか、いきなり槍でわき腹を突きました。　すると、どうでしょう。　そこから血と水が流れ出たのです。　35 この一部始終を、私は確かにこの目で見ました。　それをありのままに、正確に報告しています。　皆さんにも信じていただきたいからです。　36-37 兵士たちがこうしたのは、聖書（旧約）に、「彼の骨は一つも砕かれない」、また「彼らは自分たちが突き刺した方を見る」とあるとおりのことが、起こるためでした。
38 　このあと、弟子でありながら、ユダヤ人の指導者たちを恐れて、それをひた隠しにしていたアリマタヤのヨセフが、勇気を奮い起こし、ピラトに、イエスの死体を引き取りたいと願い出ました。　ピラトの許可を得ると、すぐ刑場に駆けつけ、死体の取り降ろしにかかりました。　　39 前に、夜、イエスのところに来たことのあるニコデモも、没薬（天然ゴムの樹脂で、古代の防腐剤）とアロエでつくった埋葬用の香油を三十キロほど用意して来ました。　40 二人はいっしょに、ユダヤ人の埋葬の習慣に従い、香料をしみ込ませた長い亜麻布でイエスのお体を包みました。　41 刑場の近くに、木の生えている園があり、そこには、さいわい新しい墓がありました。　42 安息日の前日ですから、急がなければなりません。　すぐ近くだったこともあり、イエスをその墓に納めました。イエスは復活した！

John 19

1 Then Pilate therefore took Jesus, and scourged him.2 And the soldiers platted a crown of thorns, and put it on his head, and arrayed him in a purple garment;3 and they came unto him, and said, Hail, King of the Jews! and they struck him with their hands.4 And Pilate went out again, and saith unto them, Behold, I bring him out to you, that ye may know that I find no crime in him.5 Jesus therefore came out, wearing the crown of thorns and the purple garment. And Pilate saith unto them, Behold, the man!6 When therefore the chief priests and the officers saw him, they cried out, saying, Crucify him, crucify him! Pilate saith unto them, Take him yourselves, and crucify him: for I find no crime in him.7 The Jews answered him, We have a law, and by that law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God.8 When Pilate therefore heard this saying, he was the more afraid;9 and he entered into the Praetorium again, and saith unto Jesus, Whence art thou? But Jesus gave him no answer.10 Pilate therefore saith unto him, Speakest thou not unto me? Knowest thou not that I have power to release thee, and have power to crucify thee?11 Jesus answered him, Thou wouldest have no power against me, except it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered me unto thee hath greater sin.12 Upon this Pilate sought to release him: but the Jews cried out, saying, If thou release this man, thou art not Caesar’s friend: every one that maketh himself a king speaketh against Caesar.13 When Pilate therefore heard these words, he brought Jesus out, and sat down on the judgment-seat at a place called The Pavement, but in Hebrew, Gabbatha.14 Now it was the Preparation of the passover: it was about the sixth hour. And he saith unto the Jews, Behold, your King!15 They therefore cried out, Away with him, away with him, crucify him! Pilate saith unto them, Shall I crucify your King? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Caesar.16 Then therefore he delivered him unto them to be crucified.17 They took Jesus therefore: and he went out, bearing the cross for himself, unto the place called The place of a skull, which is called in Hebrew, Golgotha:18 where they crucified him, and with him two others, on either side one, and Jesus in the midst.19 And Pilate wrote a title also, and put it on the cross. And there was written, JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS.20 This title therefore read many of the Jews, for the place where Jesus was crucified was nigh to the city; and it was written in Hebrew, and in Latin, and in Greek.21 The chief priests of the Jews therefore said to Pilate, Write not, The King of the Jews; but that he said, I am King of the Jews.22 Pilate answered, What I have written I have written.23 The soldiers therefore, when they had crucified Jesus, took his garments and made four parts, to every soldier a part; and also the coat: now the coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout.24 They said therefore one to another, Let us not rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be: that the scripture might be fulfilled, which saith, They parted my garments among them, And upon my vesture did they cast lots.

25 These things therefore the soldiers did. But there were standing by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.26 When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son!27 Then saith he to the disciple, Behold, thy mother! And from that hour the disciple took her unto his own home.28 After this Jesus, knowing that all things are now finished, that the scripture might be accomplished, saith, I thirst.29 There was set there a vessel full of vinegar: so they put a sponge full of the vinegar upon hyssop, and brought it to his mouth.30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up his spirit.31 The Jews therefore, because it was the Preparation, that the bodies should not remain on the cross upon the sabbath (for the day of that sabbath was a high day), asked of Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.32 The soldiers therefore came, and brake the legs of the first, and of the other that was crucified with him:33 but when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs:34 howbeit one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and straightway there came out blood and water.35 And he that hath seen hath borne witness, and his witness is true: and he knoweth that he saith true, that ye also may believe.36 For these things came to pass, that the scripture might be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken.37 And again another scripture saith, They shall look on him whom they pierced.38 And after these things Joseph of Arimathaea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, asked of Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus: and Pilate gave him leave. He came therefore, and took away his body.39 And there came also Nicodemus, he who at the first came to him by night, bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred pounds.40 So they took the body of Jesus, and bound it in linen cloths with the spices, as the custom of the Jews is to bury.41 Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden; and in the garden a new tomb wherein was never man yet laid.42 There then because of the Jews’ Preparation (for the tomb was nigh at hand) they laid Jesus.
