Johannes 2
1-2 Die volgende dag is Jesus en sy volgelinge na 'n troue toe. Die troue was in Kana. Kana lê in die provinsie Galilea. Jesus se ma was ook daar.
3 Die wyn raak toe op. Jesus se ma gaan sê dit toe vir Hom.4 Jesus antwoord haar: "Wat het dit eintlik met My te doen? Dit is nie my groot oomblik nie, nog nie."
5 Sy ma vra die helpers toe: "Doen asseblief wat Hy vir julle sê."
6 Daar eenkant het ses klipkanne gestaan. Elkeen het sowat 90 liter water gehou. Die Jode het die water gebruik om hulleself godsdienstig te reinig.7 Jesus sê toe vir die helpers: "Maak daardie kanne vol water." Die helpers het die kanne tot heel bo vol gemaak.8 "Skep nou 'n beker daarvan en vat dit vir die seremoniemeester." Die helpers maak toe soos Jesus gevra het. Daardie water het wyn geword en die helpers het dit besef. Die seremoniemeester het egter niks daarvan geweet nie.9 Toe die seremoniemeester daarvan proe, roep hy die bruidegom:10 "Vir wat het jy die goeie wyn tot nou toe gebêre? Jy weet mos ons gee eers die goeie wyn vir die mense en daarna die swakker wyn."
11 Dit was die eerste teken wat Jesus gedoen het, daar in Kana in Galilea. So het sy grootheid en belangrikheid duidelik geword. En sy dissipels het in Hom geglo.12 Daarna het Jesus saam met sy ma, broers en volgelinge 'n rukkie in Kapernaum gaan bly.
13 Jesus is toe Jerusalem toe vir die paasfees wat net om die draai was. Die Jode het hierdie fees elke lente gevier. Daar aangekom, is Jesus reguit tempel toe.14 Op die plein wat aan die tempelgebou grens, was dit die ene bedrywigheid. Die plek was vol handelaars wat beeste, skape en duiwe aan die mense verkoop het om as offers te gebruik. Oral het tafels gestaan waar 'n mens vreemde geld kon omruil vir geld wat vir tempelbelasting gebruik kon word.
15 Jesus maak toe 'n sweep uit toue en jaag die hele spul uit die tempelplein uit, skape en beeste inkluis. Ook die mense wat met die geld gewerk het, het deurgeloop. Jesus het hulle tafels omgegooi en hulle geld die wêreld vol gestrooi.16 Vir die duiweverkopers het Hy gesê: "Vat hierdie goed weg! Hoe durf julle my Vader se huis in 'n mark verander!"17 Skielik onthou sy volgelinge wat daar geskrywe staan: "Liefde en ywer vir u huis brand in my soos 'n verterende vuur."
18 Die Jode kap toe terug: "Wie of wat gee jou die reg om hierdie dinge aan te vang? Kan jy enigiets buitengewoons doen om te bewys dat God jou die reg gee om dit te doen?"19 "Wel," sê Jesus vir hulle, "breek die laaste klip van hierdie tempel af en in net drie dae sal Ek dit weer opbou."
20 "Wat! Dit het 46 jaar se harde werk gekos om hierdie tempel te bou! En jy wil dit sommer in drie dae doen!" sê die Jode dadelik.
21 Jesus het egter met "hierdie tempel" na sy eie liggaam verwys.22 Toe Hy later uit die dood opgewek is, het sy volgelinge hierdie woorde van Hom baie goed onthou. Hulle het besef dat wat Hy gesê het, waar is, soos hulle ook geglo het wat in die Skrif geskryf staan.
23 Jesus was vir die paasfees in Jerusalem. Baie mense het daar die wonderlike dinge gesien wat Hy gedoen het. Hulle het besef dat hierdie dinge tekens is van iets baie groters. Daarom het hulle in Jesus begin glo.24-25 Jesus het egter geweet hoe onbetroubaar mense is. Niemand hoef dit vir Hom te vertel het nie. Daarom het Hy hulle nie sommer vertrou nie.

Turning Water into Wine
1 Now on the third day there was a wedding at Canas in Galilee.s Jesus’ mothert was there,2 and Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the wedding.s3 When the wine ran out, Jesus’ mother said to him, “They have no wine left.”ts4 Jesus replied,t “Woman,s why are you saying this to me?t My timets has not yet come.”
5 His mother told the servants, “Whatever he tells you, do it.”t
6 Now there were six stone water jars there for Jewish ceremonial washing,t each holding twenty or thirty gallons.ts7 Jesus told the servants,t “Fill the water jars with water.” So they filled them up to the very top.8 Then he told them, “Now draw some out and take it to the head steward,”t and they did.9 Whent the head steward tasted the water that had been turned to wine, not knowing where it came fromt (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), het called the bridegroom10 and said to him, “Everyonet serves the good wine first, and then the cheapert wine when the guestst are drunk. You have kept the good wine until now!”
11 Jesus did this as the first of his miraculous signs,t in Canas of Galilee. In this way he revealedt his glory, and his disciples believed in him.t
Cleansing the Temple
12 After this he went down to Capernaumss with his mother and brotherss and his disciples, and they stayed there a few days.
13 Now the Jewish feast of Passovert was near, so Jesus went up to Jerusalem.s
14 s He found in the temple courtsts those who were selling oxen and sheep and doves, and the money changers sitting at tables.t15 So he made a whip of cordss and drove them all out of the temple courts,t with the sheep and the oxen. He scattered the coins of the money changerss and overturned their tables.16 To those who sold the doves he said, “Take these things away from here! Do not maket my Father’s house a marketplace!”ts
17 His disciples remembered that it was written, “Zealtfor your house will devour me.”s
18 So then the Jewish leaderst responded,t “What sign can you show us, since you are doing these things?”s19 Jesus replied,t “Destroyt this temple and in three days I will raise it up again.”20 Then the Jewish leaderst said to him, “This temple has been under constructiont for forty-six years,s and are you going to raise it up in three days?”21 But Jesust was speaking about the temple of his body.ts
22 So after he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this, and they believed the scriptures and the sayingt that Jesus had spoken.
Jesus at the Passover Feast
23 Now while Jesust was in Jerusalems at the feast of the Passover, many people believed in his name because they saw the miraculous signs he was doing.s24 But Jesus would not entrust himself to them, because he knew all people.t
25 He did not need anyone to testify about man,t for he knew what was in man.t
