Una boda en Caná de Galilea

1 Al tercer día hubo una boda en Caná, un pueblo de Galilea. La madre de Jesús estaba allí,2 y Jesús y sus discípulos fueron también invitados a la boda.3 Se acabó el vino, y la madre de Jesús le dijo:
—Ya no tienen vino.4 Jesús le contestó:
—Mujer, ¿por qué me dices esto? Mi hora no ha llegado todavía.5 Ella dijo a los que estaban sirviendo:
—Hagan todo lo que él les diga.6 Había allí seis tinajas de piedra, para el agua que usan los judíos en sus ceremonias de purificación. En cada tinaja cabían de cincuenta a setenta litros de agua.7 Jesús dijo a los sirvientes:
—Llenen de agua estas tinajas.
Las llenaron hasta arriba,8 y Jesús les dijo:
—Ahora saquen un poco y llévenselo al encargado de la fiesta.
Así lo hicieron.9 El encargado de la fiesta probó el agua convertida en vino, sin saber de dónde había salido; sólo los sirvientes lo sabían, pues ellos habían sacado el agua. Así que el encargado llamó al novio10 y le dijo:
—Todo el mundo sirve primero el mejor vino, y cuando los invitados ya han bebido bastante, entonces se sirve el vino corriente. Pero tú has guardado el mejor vino hasta ahora.11 Esto que hizo Jesús en Caná de Galilea fue la primera señal milagrosa con la cual mostró su gloria; y sus discípulos creyeron en él.12 Después de esto se fue a Cafarnaúm, acompañado de su madre, sus hermanos y sus discípulos; y allí estuvieron unos cuantos días.

Jesús purifica el templo

13 Como ya se acercaba la fiesta de la Pascua de los judíos, Jesús fue a Jerusalén.14 Y encontró en el templo a los vendedores de novillos, ovejas y palomas, y a los que estaban sentados en los puestos donde se le cambiaba el dinero a la gente.15 Al verlo, Jesús tomó unas cuerdas, se hizo un látigo y los echó a todos del templo, junto con sus ovejas y sus novillos. A los que cambiaban dinero les arrojó las monedas al suelo y les volcó las mesas.16 A los vendedores de palomas les dijo:
—¡Saquen esto de aquí! ¡No hagan un mercado de la casa de mi Padre!17 Entonces sus discípulos se acordaron de la Escritura que dice: «Me consumirá el celo por tu casa.»18 Los judíos le preguntaron:
—¿Qué prueba nos das de tu autoridad para hacer esto?19 Jesús les contestó:
—Destruyan este templo, y en tres días volveré a levantarlo.20 Los judíos le dijeron:
—Cuarenta y seis años se ha trabajado en la construcción de este templo, ¿y tú en tres días lo vas a levantar?21 Pero el templo al que Jesús se refería era su propio cuerpo.22 Por eso, cuando resucitó, sus discípulos se acordaron de esto que había dicho, y creyeron en la Escritura y en las palabras de Jesús.

Jesús conoce a todos

23 Mientras Jesús estaba en Jerusalén, en la fiesta de la Pascua, muchos creyeron en él al ver las señales milagrosas que hacía.24 Pero Jesús no confiaba en ellos, porque los conocía a todos.25 No necesitaba que nadie le dijera nada acerca de la gente, pues él mismo conocía el corazón del hombre.

1 And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there:2 and Jesus also was bidden, and his disciples, to the marriage.3 And when the wine failed, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine.4 And Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come.5 His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.6 Now there were six waterpots of stone set there after the Jews’ manner of purifying, containing two or three firkins apiece.7 Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim.8 And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the ruler of the feast. And they bare it.9 And when the ruler of the feast tasted the water now become wine, and knew not whence it was (but the servants that had drawn the water knew), the ruler of the feast calleth the bridegroom,10 and saith unto him, Every man setteth on first the good wine; and when men have drunk freely, then that which is worse: thou hast kept the good wine until now.11 This beginning of his signs did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested his glory; and his disciples believed on him.12 After this he went down to Capernaum, he, and his mother, and his brethren, and his disciples; and there they abode not many days.13 And the passover of the Jews was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.14 And he found in the temple those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting:15 and he made a scourge of cords, and cast all out of the temple, both the sheep and the oxen; and he poured out the changers’ money, and overthrew their tables;16 and to them that sold the doves he said, Take these things hence; make not my Father’s house a house of merchandise.17 His disciples remembered that it was written, Zeal for thy house shall eat me up.18 The Jews therefore answered and said unto him, What sign showest thou unto us, seeing that thou doest these things?19 Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.20 The Jews therefore said, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou raise it up in three days?21 But he spake of the temple of his body.22 When therefore he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he spake this; and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said.23 Now when he was in Jerusalem at the passover, during the feast, many believed on his name, beholding his signs which he did.24 But Jesus did not trust himself unto them, for that he knew all men,25 and because he needed not that any one should bear witness concerning man; for he himself knew what was in man.
