Le nozze di Cana: primo miracolo di Gesù.

1 Due giorni dopo, la madre di Gesù fu invitata ad un matrimonio nel villaggio di Cana, in Galilea.2 C’erano anche Gesù e i suoi discepoli.3 Durante il pranzo la scorta di vino si esaurì e la madre di Gesù gli disse: « Non hanno più vino ».4 « Amata donna », rispose Gesù, «Perché mi coinvolgi? Non è ancora giunta la mia ora ».5 Ma sua madre disse ai servi: « Fate tutto ciò che vi dirà ».6 C’erano lì sei recipienti di pietra, che venivano usati durante le cerimonie ebraiche; ognuno conteneva dagli ottanta ai cento litri circa.7-8 Gesù ordinò ai servi di riempirli d’ac-qua fino all’orlo, poi aggiunse: « Pren-de-tene un po’ e portatelo al maestro di tavola ».9 Quando il maestro di tavola assaggiò l’acqua trasformata in vino, non sapendo da dove venisse (naturalmente solo i servi sapevano ciò che era accaduto), disse allo sposo:10 « Che bontà! Tu sei diverso dagli altri. Di solito tutti offrono prima il vino migliore e dopo, quando gli invitati hanno già bevuto, e non ci fanno più caso, fanno servire le qualità più scadenti. Invece, tu hai tenuto per ultimo il vino migliore! »11 Questo miracolo a Cana in Galilea, fu la prima dimostrazione pubblica della potenza divina di Gesù. E i discepoli credettero che era davvero lui il Messia.12 Dopo le nozze, Gesù partì per Cafarnao insieme con sua madre, i suoi fratelli e i discepoli, e si fermò là alcuni giorni.

Un tempio, non un mercato!

13 S’avvicinava il periodo della Pasqua ebraica e Gesù andò a Gerusalemme.14 Nel tempio vide i mercanti che vendevano buoi, pecore e colombe per i sacrifici, e i cambiavalute seduti dietro i loro banchi.15 Con delle corde Gesù fece una frusta e cacciò tutti dal tempio. Spinse fuori le pecore e i buoi, e scaraventò a terra le monete dei cambiavalute, rovesciando i loro tavoli.16 Poi, rivolgendosi ai venditori di colombi, gridò: « Portate fuori questa roba! Non trasformate in un mercato la casa di mio Padre! »17 Allora i discepoli si ricordarono di questa profezia delle Scritture: « Lo zelo per la casa di Dio è come un fuoco che mi consuma ».18 « Che diritto hai di fare queste cose? » gli chiesero allora alcuni capi giudei. « Se hai questa autorità da Dio, dimostralo con un miracolo! »19 « Va bene », rispose Gesù, « questo è il miracolo che farò per voi: distruggete questo tempio ed in tre giorni io lo costruirò di nuovo! »20 « Che cosa? » replicarono i Giudei. « Ci sono voluti quarantasei anni per costruire questo tempio, e tu saresti capace di ricostruirlo in tre giorni? »21 Ma, dicendo « questo tempio », Gesù si riferiva al suo corpo.22 Dopo la risurrezione, i discepoli si ricordarono di queste parole e capirono che le parole delle Scritture si riferivano davvero a lui e che tutto si era avverato!23 Per i miracoli che Gesù fece a Gerusalemme, durante le feste di Pasqua, molte persone si convinsero che era davvero lui il Messia.24-25 Ma Gesù non si fidava di loro, perché conosceva l’uomo nel suo intimo; non occorreva che qualcuno gli dicesse quant’è volubile la natura umana!

1 And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there:2 and Jesus also was bidden, and his disciples, to the marriage.3 And when the wine failed, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine.4 And Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come.5 His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.6 Now there were six waterpots of stone set there after the Jews’ manner of purifying, containing two or three firkins apiece.7 Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim.8 And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the ruler of the feast. And they bare it.9 And when the ruler of the feast tasted the water now become wine, and knew not whence it was (but the servants that had drawn the water knew), the ruler of the feast calleth the bridegroom,10 and saith unto him, Every man setteth on first the good wine; and when men have drunk freely, then that which is worse: thou hast kept the good wine until now.11 This beginning of his signs did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested his glory; and his disciples believed on him.12 After this he went down to Capernaum, he, and his mother, and his brethren, and his disciples; and there they abode not many days.13 And the passover of the Jews was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.14 And he found in the temple those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting:15 and he made a scourge of cords, and cast all out of the temple, both the sheep and the oxen; and he poured out the changers’ money, and overthrew their tables;16 and to them that sold the doves he said, Take these things hence; make not my Father’s house a house of merchandise.17 His disciples remembered that it was written, Zeal for thy house shall eat me up.18 The Jews therefore answered and said unto him, What sign showest thou unto us, seeing that thou doest these things?19 Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.20 The Jews therefore said, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou raise it up in three days?21 But he spake of the temple of his body.22 When therefore he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he spake this; and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said.23 Now when he was in Jerusalem at the passover, during the feast, many believed on his name, beholding his signs which he did.24 But Jesus did not trust himself unto them, for that he knew all men,25 and because he needed not that any one should bear witness concerning man; for he himself knew what was in man.
