Johannes 3

Nikodemos besöker Jesus om natten

1 En kväll efter mörkrets inbrott kom en man som hette Nikodemos för att prata med Jesus.

2 Han var farisét och medlem i det judiska rådett. "Mästare", sa han, "vi vet att Gud har sänt dig för att undervisa oss. Ingen kan göra sådana under som du gör om inte Gud är med honom."

3 Men Jesus svarade: "Jag försäkrar dig, att den som inte föds en gång till får aldrig uppleva vad det innebär att tillhöra Guds eget folk."

4 "Födas en gång till!" utropade Nikodemos. "Vad menar du? En vuxen människa kan väl inte komma in i sin mamma och födas igen?"
5 Jesus svarade: "Jag försäkrar dig, att den som inte blir född av vatten och av Guds Ande får överhuvudtaget inte tillhöra Guds eget folk.6 Människor kan föda fram mänskligt liv, men Guds Ande föder fram andligt livt.7 Förvåna dig därför inte över att jag säger att människor måste födas en gång till.

8 Guds Ande är som vindent. Man kan inte säga varifrån den kommer eller vart den tar vägen, men man kan höra den och se dess verkningar. Så går det också till när en människa föds av Guds Ande."

9 "Men hur är detta möjligt?" frågade Nikodemos.
10 Jesus svarade: "Du är en berömd judisk lärare, och ändå förstår du inte det här.11 Jag försäkrar dig, att det vi talar om är sådant vi vet och har sett, och ändå tror ni oss inte.12 Men om ni inte tror när jag berättar om sådant som händer på jorden, hur ska ni då kunna tro när jag talar om det som händer i himlen?

13 Ingen människa har ju varit i himlen, utom jag, Människosonent, som har kommit ner därifrån.
14 På samma sätt som Mose hängde upp kopparormen i öknen, så måste jag, Människosonen, lyftas uppt,15 för att alla som tror på mig ska få evigt liv.16 Gud älskade ju människorna så mycket att han gav dem sin enda Son, för att de som tror på honom inte ska gå förlorade utan ha evigt liv.

17 Det var inte för att döma människorna som Gud sände sin Son till världen, utan Sonen kom för att rädda dem.
18 De människor som tror på Sonen blir inte dömda. Men de som inte tror på honom är redan dömda, eftersom de inte tror på Guds enda Son.19 Och skälet till att de blir dömda är att när ljuset från himlen kom ner till jorden, så älskade människorna mörkret mer än ljuset, eftersom deras handlingar var onda.20 Den som gör det som är ont, hatar ljuset. Han håller sig borta från ljuset, så att hans synder inte ska avslöjas.

21 Men den som gör det som är rätt, dras till ljuset för att alla ska se att han gör det som Gud vill."

Johannes döparen berättar vem Jesus är

22 Sedan lämnade Jesus Jerusalem tillsammans med sina efterföljare, men de stannade i Judeen en tid och döpte människor.
23 Samtidigt höll Johannes på att döpa. Han höll till vid Ainon, nära Salim, där det fanns gott om vatten, och många människor kom till honom för att döpas.24 Det var innan Johannes hade satts i fängelse.25 En dag kom en judisk man till Johannes efterföljare och började bråka med dem om olika reningsceremoniert.

26 Johannes efterföljare gick då till Johannes och sa: "Mästare, mannen som var tillsammans med dig på andra sidan Jordanfloden, han som du talade om till folket, han döper också. Och nu går alla till honom istället för att komma till oss."
27 Men Johannes svarade: "Om alla går till honom, så är det för att Gud låter det ske."28 Ni vet själva att jag klart och tydligt har sagt till er att jag inte är Messias, den utlovade kungen. Jag är utsänd för att bereda vägen för honom, det är allt.29 Människorna dras till honom, såsom bruden dras till sin brudgum. Och brudgummens vän blir glad av att få stå och lyssna till brudgummen. Jag är brudgummens vän och nu är min glädje fullständig.

30 Det är som det ska att människorna lyssnar mer och mer till honom och allt mindre till mig.
31 Han har kommit från himlen och är därför större än alla andra. Jag kommer från jorden, och mitt förstånd är begränsat till det jordiska.32 Han har kommit från himlen och berättar om det han har sett och hört, och ändå tror ingen på det han säger.33 Men den som tror på det han säger, erkänner att Gud talar sanning,34 för denna man, som är sänd av Gud, framför Guds budskap. Gud har fyllt honom helt med sin Ande.35 Fadern älskar Sonen och har gett honom makt över allting.

36 Den som tror på Guds Son har evigt liv. Men den som vägrar att lyda Sonen går miste om det eviga livet, och blir kvar under Guds dom."

John 3

Conversation with Nicodemus

1 Now a certain man, a Pharisees named Nicodemus, who was a member of the Jewish ruling council,t2 came to Jesust at nightts and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the miraculous signss that you do unless God is with him.”3 Jesus replied,t “I tell you the solemn truth,t unless a person is born from above,ts he cannot see the kingdom of God.”s

4 Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? He cannot enter his mother’s womb and be born a second time, can he?”t
5 Jesus answered, “I tell you the solemn truth,t unless a person is born of water and spirit,ts he cannot enter the kingdom of God.6 What is born of the flesh is flesh,s and what is born of the Spirit is spirit.7 Do not be amazed that I said to you, ‘You must allt be born from above.’t

8 The windt blows wherever it will, and you hear the sound it makes, but do not know where it comes from and where it is going. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.”s
9 Nicodemus replied,t “How can these things be?”s10 Jesus answered,t “Are you the teacher of Israel and yet you don’t understand these things?s11 I tell you the solemn truth,t we speak about what we know and testify about what we have seen, butt you peoplet do not accept our testimony.s12 If I have told you peoplet about earthly things and you don’t believe, how will you believe if I tell you about heavenly things?s13 No onet has ascendeds into heaven except the one who descended from heaven – the Son of Man.ss14 Just ast Moses lifted up the serpentsin the wilderness,s so must the Son of Man be lifted up,s

15 so that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.”ts
16 For this is the wayts God loved the world: He gave his one and onlyt Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perisht but have eternal life.s17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world,s but that the world should be saved through him.18 The one who believes in him is not condemned.t The one who does not believe has been condemnedt already, because he has not believed in the name of the one and onlyt Son of God.19 Now this is the basis for judging:t that the light has come into the world and peoplet loved the darkness rather than the light, because their deeds were evil.20 For everyone who does evil deeds hates the light and does not come to the light, so that their deeds will not be exposed.

21 But the one who practices the truth comes to the light, so that it may be plainly evident that his deeds have been done in God.s

Further Testimony About Jesus by John the Baptist

22 After this,t Jesus and his disciples came into Judean territory, and there he spent time with them and was baptizing.23 Johns was also baptizing at Aenon near Salim,t because water was plentiful there, and people were comingt to himt and being baptized.

24 (For John had not yet been thrown into prison.)s
25 Now a dispute came about between some of John’s disciples and a certain Jewst concerning ceremonial washing.ts

26 So they came to John and said to him, “Rabbi, the one who was with you on the other side of the Jordan River,t about whom you testified – see, he is baptizing, and everyone is flocking to him!”
27 John replied,t “No one can receive anything unless it has been given to him from heaven.28 You yourselves can testify that I said, ‘I am not the Christ,’ts but rather, ‘I have been sent before him.’29 The one who has the bride is the bridegroom. The friend of the bridegroom, who stands by and listens for him, rejoices greatlyt when he hears the bridegroom’s voice. This then is my joy, and it is complete.t

30 He must become more important while I become less important.”s
31 The one who comes from above is superior to all.t The one who is from the earth belongs to the earth and speaks about earthly things.t The one who comes from heavens is superior to all.st32 He testifies about what he has seen and heard, but no one accepts his testimony.33 The one who has accepted his testimony has confirmed clearly that God is truthful.t34 For the one whom God has sentt speaks the words of God, for he does not give the Spirit sparingly.t35 The Father loves the Son and has placed all things under his authority.t

36 The one who believes in the Son has eternal life. The one who rejectst the Son will not see life, but God’s wratht remainst on him.
