Johannes 3
1 Unter den Pharisäern war ein Mann, mit Namen Nikodemus, ein Mitglied des jüdischen Hohen Rates.2 Der kam bei Nacht zu Jesus und sprach zu ihm: "Meister, wir wissen, daß du ein von Gott gesandter Lehrer bist. Denn niemand kann die Wunderzeichen tun, die du vollbringst, wenn Gott nicht mit ihm ist."3 Jesus antwortete ihm: "Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage dir: Wer nicht von oben hert geboren wird, der kann Gottes Königreich nicht sehen."4 Nikodemus sprach zu ihm: "Wie kann jemand in seinem hohen Alter geboren werden? Kann er denn zum zweitenmal in seiner Mutter Schoß gehen und dann geboren werden?"5 Jesus erwiderte: "Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage dir: Wer nicht aus Wasser und Geist geboren wird,t der kann in Gottes Königreich nicht eingehen.6 Das aus dem Fleisch Geborene ist Fleisch, das aus dem Geist Geborene ist Geist.t7 Sei nicht erstaunt darüber, daß ich dir gesagt habe: ihr müßt von oben her geboren werden.8 Der Wind weht, wo er will; du hörst zwar sein Brausen; aber du weißt nicht, woher er kommt und wohin er geht. Ebenso verhält sich's auch mit jedem, der aus dem Geist geboren ist."t9 Nikodemus entgegnete ihm: "Wie ist dies alles möglich?"10 Jesus antwortete ihm: "Du bist ein so bekannter Lehrer Israels und weißt das nicht?11 Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage dir: Wir reden, was wir wissen, und bezeugen, was wir gesehen haben;t trotzdem nehmt ihr unser Zeugnis nicht an.12 Glaubt ihr nicht einmal, wenn ich von den irdischen Dingen zu euch geredet habe, wie werdet ihr da glauben, wenn ich erst von den himmlischen Dingen zu euch rede?t13 Niemand aber ist im Himmel heimischt als allein der Menschensohn, der aus dem Himmel herabgekommen ist.14 Und wie einst Mose in der Wüste die Schlange erhöht hat,t ebenso muß auch der Menschensohn erhöht werden,15 damit jeder, der an ihn glaubt, das ewige Leben habe."16 Denn so sehr hat Gott die Weltt geliebt, daß er seinen eingeborenen Sohn gegeben hat, damit jeder, der an ihn glaubt, nicht verlorengehe, sondern das ewige Leben habe.17 Denn Gott hat seinen Sohn nicht in die Welt gesandt, um die Welt zu richten, sondern damit die Welt durch ihn errettet werde.t18 Wer an ihn glaubt, der wird nicht gerichtet; wer aber nicht glaubt, der ist schon gerichtet,t weil er nicht gläubig ist an den Namen des eingeborenen Sohnes Gottes.19 Darin aber vollzieht sich das Gericht, daß das Licht in die Welt gekommen ist und die Menschen trotzdem die Finsternis dem Licht vorgezogen haben. Das taten sie, weil ihre Werke böse waren.20 Denn jeder Übeltäter haßt das Licht und kommt nicht an das Licht, aus Furcht, daß seine Werke aufgedeckt und verurteilt werden.21 Wer aber die Wahrheit tut,t der kommt ans Licht, damit seine Werke offenbar werden; dennt sie sind in Gottt getan.t22 Darauf begab sich Jesus mit seinen Jüngern in die Landschaft Judäa.t Dort blieb er mit ihnen eine Zeitlang und taufte.23 Aber auch Johannes taufte damals in Ainon nahe bei Salim,t weil dort viel Wasser war; und die Leute kamen zu ihm und ließen sich taufen.24 Denn Johannes war noch nicht ins Gefängnis geworfen.t25 Einst stritten die Jünger des Johannes mit einem Juden über die Frage der Reinigung.t26 Da kamen sie zu Johannes und sagten ihm: "Meister, der Mann, der jenseits des Jordans bei dir war, und für den du Zeugnis abgelegt hast, der tauft jetzt auch, und alle kommen zu ihm."t27 Da antwortete Johannes: "Kein Mensch kann etwas nehmen, wenn es ihm nicht vom Himmel her gegeben ist.t28 Ihr selbst könnt mir bezeugen, daß ich gesagt habe: 'Ich bin nicht der Messias, ich bin nur sein Wegbereiter.'29 Wer die Braut hat, ist der Bräutigam. Der Freund des Bräutigams aber, der bei ihm steht und auf seine Worte lauscht, ist voller Freude über des Bräutigams Glück.t Solche Freude wird mir jetzt im vollen Maß zuteil.t30 Er muß wachsen,t ich muß kleiner werden."31 Er, der von obent kommt, ist allent überlegen. Wer von der Erde stammt, gehört (nach seiner ganzen Art) der Erde an, und auch alles, was er redet, geht von der Erde aus.t Wer aus dem Himmel kommt,32 der zeugt von dem, was er gesehen und gehört hat. Doch niemand nimmt sein Zeugnis an.t33 Wer aber sein Zeugnis annimmt, der bestätigt damit feierlich, daß Gott wahrhaftig ist.t34 Denn er, den Gott gesandt hat,t redet Gottes Worte, weil Gott (ihm) den Geist nicht in beschränktem Maße gibt.t35 Der Vater liebt den Sohn, und alles hat er ihm in seine Hand gegeben.t36 Wer an den Sohn glaubt, der hat das ewige Leben. Wer aber dem Sohn nicht gehorcht, der wird kein Leben schauen; sondern Gottes Zorn lastet immerfort auf ihm.t
John 3
1 Now there was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews:2 the same came unto him by night, and said to him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that thou doest, except God be with him.3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except one be born anew, he cannot see the kingdom of God.4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb, and be born?5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except one be born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God!6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born anew.8 The wind bloweth where it will, and thou hearest the voice thereof, but knowest not whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.9 Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be?10 Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou the teacher of Israel, and understandest not these things?11 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that which we know, and bear witness of that which we have seen; and ye receive not our witness.12 If I told you earthly things and ye believe not, how shall ye believe if I tell you heavenly things?13 And no one hath ascended into heaven, but he that descended out of heaven, even the Son of man, who is in heaven.14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up;15 that whosoever believeth may in him have eternal life.16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on him should not perish, but have eternal life.17 For God sent not the Son into the world to judge the world; but that the world should be saved through him.18 He that believeth on him is not judged: he that believeth not hath been judged already, because he hath not believed on the name of the only begotten Son of God.19 And this is the judgment, that the light is come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the light; for their works were evil.20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, and cometh not to the light, lest his works should be reproved.21 But he that doeth the truth cometh to the light, that his works may be made manifest, that they have been wrought in God.22 After these things came Jesus and his disciples into the land of Judea; and there he tarried with them, and baptized.23 And John also was baptizing in Enon near to Salim, because there was much water there: and they came, and were baptized.24 For John was not yet cast into prison.25 There arose therefore a questioning on the part of John’s disciples with a Jew about purifying.26 And they came unto John, and said to him, Rabbi, he that was with thee beyond the Jordan, to whom thou hast borne witness, behold, the same baptizeth, and all men come to him.27 John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it have been given him from heaven.28 Ye yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but, that I am sent before him.29 He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, that standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice: this my joy therefore is made full.30 He must increase, but I must decrease.31 He that cometh from above is above all: he that is of the earth is of the earth, and of the earth he speaketh: he that cometh from heaven is above all.32 What he hath seen and heard, of that he beareth witness; and no man receiveth his witness.33 He that hath received his witness hath set his seal to this, that God is true.34 For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for he giveth not the Spirit by measure.35 The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand.36 He that believeth on the Son hath eternal life; but he that obeyeth not the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abideth on him.
