Johannes 4

Jesus en die Samaritaanse vrou

1 Jesus het geweet dat die tFariseërs gehoor het dat Jesus meer tdissipels kry as Johannes en dat Hy meer dissipels doop as Johannes. 2 Maar Jesus het nie self mense gedoop nie, sy dissipels het hulle gedoop. 3 Jesus het toe weggegaan uit die provinsie Judea en hy het teruggegaan na die provinsie Galilea. 4 Hy moes deur die provinsie Samaria gaan. 5 Hy kom toe by die stad Sigar in Samaria. tSigar was naby die stuk grond wat Jakob vir sy seun Josef gegee het. 6 Die tput van Jakob was daar. Jesus was moeg omdat hulle ver geloop het en Hy het by die put gaan sit. Dit was omtrent twaalfuur die middag.

7 ’n Vrou uit Samaria het daar kom water skep. Jesus het vir haar gevra: “Gee asseblief vir my water om te drink.”
8 Jesus was alleen, want sy dissipels het in die stad gaan kos koop.

9 Die tSamaritaanse vrou sê toe vir Jesus: “Jy is ’n Jood! Hoekom vra jy vir my, ’n Samaritaanse vrou, water om te drink?”
Sy het dit gesê omdat die Jode nie saam met die Samaritane wou wees nie.

10 Jesus het vir die vrou gesê: “Jy weet nie wat God vir die mense wil gee nie. Jy weet ook nie wie dit is wat nou vir jou water vra om te drink nie. Jy weet nie, en daarom vra jy nie vir My nie, en daarom kan Ek nie vir jou water gee nie, water wat ’n mens waarlik laat lewe.”
11 Die vrou sê toe: “Meneer, jy het niks waarmee jy water kan skep nie, en hierdie put is diep. Waar sal jy die water kry wat ’n mens waarlik laat lewe?

12 Jy is nie beter as ons tvoorvader Jakob nie. Hy en sy seuns en sy diere het almal hier water gedrink en hy het hierdie put vir ons gegee.”
13 Jesus het vir haar gesê: “Elkeen wat van hierdie put se water drink, sal weer dors word.

14 Maar wanneer iemand drink van die water wat Ek vir hom gee, dan sal hy nooit weer dors word nie. Die water wat Ek vir hom gee, sal binne-in hom word soos ’n fontein wat vir hom die tewige lewe gee.”

15 Die vrou sê toe vir Jesus: “Meneer, gee vir my van daardie soort water. Dan sal ek nie weer dors word nie en dan sal ek nie weer hier water moet kom haal nie.”

16 Jesus het vir haar gesê: “Gaan roep jou man en kom terug hiernatoe!”

17 Die vrou het vir Hom gesê: “Ek het nie ’n man nie.”
Toe sê Jesus: “Jy praat die waarheid, jy het nie ’n man nie.

18 Jy het vyf mans gehad en die man by wie jy nou bly, is nie jou man nie. Jy praat die waarheid.”
19 Die vrou sê toe vir Jesus: “Meneer, ek sien jy is ’n tprofeet.

20 Ons tvoorvaders het God aanbid op hierdie berg, maar julle Jode sê Jerusalem is die regte plek waar ons God moet aanbid.”
21 Jesus het vir haar gesê: “Mevrou, glo My, daar sal ’n ttyd kom wanneer mense die Vader nie hier op die berg sal aanbid nie, en ook nie in Jerusalem nie. 22 Julle Samaritane aanbid God, maar julle ken Hom nie. Ons Jode ken Hom, want die tRedder is ’n Jood. 23 Ek het gesê daar sal ’n tyd kom, en die tyd is nou hier. Nou sal die Heilige Gees die mense help om God reg te aanbid. Die Vader wil graag mense hê wat Hom so aanbid.

24 God is Gees. Daarom moet die mense wat Hom aanbid, vra dat die Gees hulle moet help om God reg te aanbid.”

25 Die vrou sê toe: “Ek weet daar sal ’n tMessias kom. Die mense noem Hom ook tdie Christus. Wanneer Hy hier is, dan sal Hy vir ons alles vertel wat ons moet weet.”

26 Jesus sê toe vir haar: “Dit is Ek, Ek wat nou met jou praat.”

Ander mense van Samaria glo ook in Jesus

29 “Julle moet kom kyk! Daar is ’n Man wat vir my alles vertel het wat ek gedoen het. Ek wonder of Hy tdie Christus is.”
30 Die mense het uit die stad na Jesus toe gekom.

31 Voordat die mense daar gekom het, het die dissipels vir Jesus gesê: “tRabbi, U moet iets eet.”

32 Maar Jesus het vir hulle gesê: “Ek het kos om te eet, maar julle weet nie wat dit is nie.”

33 Toe vra die dissipels vir mekaar: “Het iemand miskien kos vir Hom gebring?”
34 Jesus het vir hulle gesê: “My kos is om te doen wat God wil hê Ek moet doen. God het My na die wêreld gestuur. Ek moet alles klaar doen wat Hy gesê het. 35 Wanneer julle na die koringlande kyk, dan sê julle: ‘Oor vier maande sal die koring ryp wees, dan kan ons die koring afsny.’ Maar Ek sê vir julle: Kyk na die mense wat daar aankom, hulle is soos koring wat klaar ryp is. 36 Die man wat die koring afsny, kry nou al klaar sy tbeloning, want hy maak ’n oes bymekaar vir die tewige lewe. Dan sal die man wat saai en die man wat die koring afsny, saam bly wees. 37 Dit is waar wat die mense altyd sê: ‘Een man saai die koring en ’n ander man kom sny dit af.’

38 Ek het julle gestuur om koring te gaan afsny, maar julle het dit nie gesaai nie. Ander mense het gesaai, maar julle maak die koring bymekaar.”
39 Baie van die tSamaritane in daardie stad het in Jesus geglo omdat die vrou vir hulle gesê het Jesus het vir haar alles vertel wat sy gedoen het. 40 Toe die Samaritane by Jesus kom, het hulle vir Hom gevra om by hulle te bly. Hy het twee dae daar gebly. 41 Nog baie meer Samaritane het in Jesus geglo toe hulle gehoor het wat Hy alles sê.

42 Hulle het vir die vrou gesê: “Ons het eers geglo omdat jy vir ons vertel het van Jesus. Maar nou het ons self na Hom geluister. Nou weet ons Hy is die tRedder van die wêreld.”

Jesus maak ’n belangrike amptenaar se seun gesond

(Ook Matt 8:5-8,13; Luk 7:1-4,7,10)

48 Jesus het vir hom gesê: “Julle wil altyd twondertekens en twonderwerke sien. As julle dit nie sien nie, dan wil julle nie glo nie!”

49 Die amptenaar van die koning sê toe vir Jesus: “Here, kom asseblief gou voor my seuntjie sterf!”

50 Jesus het vir hom gesê: “Jy mag huis toe gaan. Jou seun sal nie sterf nie.”
Die man het geglo wat Jesus vir hom gesê het en hy het huis toe gegaan. 51 Terwyl hy huis toe gaan, het sy tslawe by hom gekom. Hulle het vir hom gesê sy kind is gesond.

52 Die man het vir sy slawe gevra wanneer die kind beter geword het, en hulle het gesê: “Gistermiddag eenuur, toe het hy nie meer koors gehad nie.”

53 Die pa het toe besef dit was dieselfde tyd toe Jesus vir hom gesê het: “Jou seun sal nie sterf nie.”
Hy en almal in sy huis het toe in Jesus geglo. 54 Dit was die tweede wonderteken wat Jesus in Kana gedoen het. Hy het dit gedoen nadat Hy uit Judea in Galilea gekom het.

Jesus Talks With a Woman From Samaria

1 The Pharisees heard that Jesus was winning and baptizing more disciples than John.2 But in fact Jesus was not baptizing. His disciples were.3 When the Lord found out about all this, he left Judea. He went back to Galilee again.
4 Jesus had to go through Samaria.5 He came to a town in Samaria called Sychar. It was near the piece of land Jacob had given his son Joseph.6 Jacob's well was there. Jesus was tired from the journey. So he sat down by the well. It was about noon.
7 A woman from Samaria came to get some water. Jesus said to her, "Will you give me a drink?"8 His disciples had gone into the town to buy food.
9 The Samaritan woman said to him, "You are a Jew. I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?" She said this because Jews don't have anything to do with Samaritans.
10 Jesus answered her, "You do not know what God's gift is. And you do not know who is asking you for a drink. If you did, you would have asked him. He would have given you living water."
11 "Sir," the woman said, "you don't have anything to get water with. The well is deep. Where can you get this living water?
12 "Our father Jacob gave us the well. He drank from it himself. So did his sons and his flocks and herds. Are you more important than he is?"
13 Jesus answered, "All who drink this water will be thirsty again.14 But anyone who drinks the water I give him will never be thirsty. In fact, the water I give him will become a spring of water in him. It will flow up into eternal life."
15 The woman said to him, "Sir, give me this water. Then I will never be thirsty. And I won't have to keep coming here to get water."
16 He told her, "Go. Get your husband and come back."
17 "I have no husband," she replied.
Jesus said to her, "You are right when you say you have no husband.18 The fact is, you have had five husbands. And the man you have now is not your husband. What you have just said is very true."
19 "Sir," the woman said, "I can see that you are a prophet.20 Our people have worshiped on this mountain for a long time. But you Jews claim that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem."
21 Jesus said, "Believe me, woman. A time is coming when you will not worship the Father on this mountain or in Jerusalem.22 You Samaritans worship what you do not know. We worship what we do know. Salvation comes from the Jews.
23 "But a new time is coming. In fact, it is already here. True worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. They are the kind of worshipers the Father is looking for.
24 "God is spirit. His worshipers must worship him in spirit and in truth."
25 The woman said, "I know that Messiah is coming." (He is called Christ.) "When he comes, he will explain everything to us."
26 Then Jesus said, "I, the one speaking to you, am he."

The Disciples Join Jesus Again

27 Just then Jesus' disciples returned. They were surprised to find him talking with a woman. But no one asked, "What do you want from her?" No one asked, "Why are you talking with her?"
28 The woman left her water jar and went back to the town. She said to the people,29 "Come. See a man who told me everything I've ever done. Could this be the Christ?"
30 The people came out of the town and made their way toward Jesus.
31 His disciples were saying to him, "Rabbi, eat something!"
32 But he said to them, "I have food to eat that you know nothing about."
33 Then his disciples asked each other, "Did someone bring him food?"
34 Jesus said, "My food is to do what my Father sent me to do. My food is to finish his work.
35 "You say, 'Four months more, and then it will be harvest time.' But I tell you, open your eyes! Look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest right now.36 Those who gather the crop are already getting paid. They are already harvesting the crop for eternal life. So those who plant and those who gather can now be glad together.
37 "Here is a true saying. 'One plants and another gathers.'38 I sent you to gather what you have not worked for. Others have done the hard work. You have gathered the benefits of their work."

Many Samaritans Believe in Jesus

39 Many of the Samaritans from the town of Sychar believed in Jesus. They believed because of the woman's witness. She said, "He told me everything I've ever done."
40 Then the Samaritans came to him and tried to get him to stay with them. So he stayed two days.41 Because of his words, many more people became believers.
42 They said to the woman, "We no longer believe just because of what you said. We have now heard for ourselves. We know that this man really is the Savior of the world."

Jesus Heals the Official's Son

43 After the two days, Jesus left for Galilee.44 He himself had pointed out that a prophet is not respected in his own country.45 When he arrived in Galilee, the people living there welcomed him. They had seen everything he had done in Jerusalem at the Passover Feast. That was because they had also been there.
46 Once more, Jesus visited Cana in Galilee. Cana is where he had turned the water into wine. A royal official was there. His son was sick in bed at Capernaum.47 The official heard that Jesus had arrived in Galilee from Judea. So he went to Jesus and begged him to come and heal his son. The boy was close to death.
48 Jesus told him, "You people will never believe unless you see miraculous signs and wonders."
49 The royal official said, "Sir, come down before my child dies."
50 Jesus replied, "You may go. Your son will live."
The man believed what Jesus said, and so he left.51 While he was still on his way home, his servants met him. They gave him the news that his boy was living.52 He asked what time his son got better. They said to him, "The fever left him yesterday afternoon at one o'clock."
53 Then the father realized what had happened. That was the exact time Jesus had said to him, "Your son will live." So he and all his family became believers.
54 This was the second miraculous sign that Jesus did after coming from Judea to Galilee.
