ヨハネによる福音書 5

五

1 　その後、ユダヤ人の祭りがあったので、イエスはエルサレムに戻られました。　2 エルサレム市内には、羊の門の近くに、ベテスダという池がありました。　池の回りには、屋根つきの五つの廊下があります。　3 そこに、足の不自由な人、盲人、手足の麻痺した人など、大ぜいの病人が横たわっていました。　〔この人たちは、水面が揺れ動くのを待っていたのです。　4 というのは、時たま主の使いが来て、水をかき回すことがあり、その時、最初に池に入った人は、病気が治ったからです。〕
5 　その中に、三十八年間も病気で苦しんでいる男がいました。　6 イエスはこの男をごらんになり、長い間どんなに苦しんできたかを知って、「よくなりたいですか」とお尋ねになりました。
7 　「もうあきらめてますよ。　せっかく水が動いても、だれも池に入れてはくれないんだから。　何とかして行こうとしている間に、いつでもほかの人が先に入っちゃうんでね。」
8 　「さあ、立って、床をたたんで家に帰りなさい。」
9 　イエスがこう言われると、たちまち病気は治りました。　男はすぐに床をたたみ、歩きだしたのです。
ところが、この奇蹟が行なわれたのが安息日だったので、　10 ユダヤ人の指導者たちはひどく腹を立て、その男をしかりつけました。「安息日に仕事をするとはけしからん。　床を運んだりするのは、おきて違反だっ！」
11 　「でも......、私を治してくださった方が、そうしろとおっしゃったんですよ。」
12 　「そんなことを言ったのはどこのどいつだっ！」彼らは問い詰めましたが、　13 男には、だれかわかりません。　イエスはすでに、人ごみに姿を消しておられたからです。　14 しばらくして、イエスは宮でその男を見つけ、声をおかけになりました。　「どうですか、すっかりよくなったでしょう。　もう前のように罪を犯してはいけませんよ。　そうでないと、もっとひどい目に会うかもしれませんから。」
15 　男は、ユダヤ人の指導者たちを捜し出し、治してくれたのはイエスだと告げました。
16 　ユダヤ人の指導者たちは、イエスを、安息日の違反者ときめつけ、しつこい攻撃を始めました。　17 ところが、イエスはお答えになりました。　「わたしの父は、絶えず良い働きをしておられます。　その模範にならっているのです。」
18 　これを聞いたユダヤ人の指導者たちは、ますます、イエスを殺そうと思うようになりました。　イエスが安息日のおきてを破ったばかりか、事もあろうに、神を「父」と呼んで、自分を神と等しい者とされたからです。
19 　イエスはお答えになりました。　「よく言っておきます。　子は自分からは何もできません。　ただ父がしておられることを見て、同じようにするだけです。　20 父は子を愛して、自分のすることは何でも、子に教えてくださるのです。　子は、病気を治すことなど比べものにならないほど大きな、驚くべき奇蹟を行ないます。　21 父が死人を生き返らせるように、子も、思うままに人を死人の中から生き返らせもするのです。　22 父は、罪のさばきを、いっさい子に任せておられます。　23 すべての者が父を敬うように、子をも敬うためです。　だから、父がお遣わしになった神の子を敬わないのは、父を敬わないのと全く同じことです。
24 　よく言っておきます。　わたしの言うことを聞き、わたしを遣わされた神を信じる人はだれでも、永遠のいのちがあります。　罪のために罰せられることは絶対にありません。　すでに死からいのちに移っているのです。　25 はっきり言いましょう。　死人が、神の子であるわたしの声を聞く時が、じきに来ます。　いやもう来ているのです。　そして、聞いた者は生きます。　26 父が自分のいのちを、子にも与えてくださったからです。　27 また、全人類の罪をさばく権威も下さいました。
それもみな、子がメシヤ（救い主）だからです。　28 驚いてはいけません。　墓の中の死人がみな、神の子の声を聞く時が来ます。　29 その時、彼らは復活します。　良いことをしてきた者は、永遠のいのちをいただくために、悪いことをし続けてきた者は、さばきを受けるために。
30 　しかしわたしは、父と相談もせずに判決を下したりはしません。　ただ言われるとおりにさばくだけです。　ですから、わたしのさばきは絶対に公平で正しいのです。　自分の考えだけによらず、わたしを遣わされた神の意志に従ってさばくからです。
31 　わたしが自分について証言しても、だれも信じないでしょう。　32 しかし、わたしのことを証言してくださる方がほかにおられます。その方の証言はまちがいなく真実です。　33 あなたがたは、バプテスマのヨハネの教えを聞こうと、わざわざ出かけて行きました。確かに、ヨハネがわたしについて語ることは、何もかもほんとうのことです。　34 しかし、わたしについての最高の証言は、人間の証言ではありません。　ただ、ヨハネの証言のことを思い出させたのは、わたしを信じて救われてほしい一心からです。　35 なるほどヨハネはしばらくの間、ひときわ明るく輝き、あなたがたもそれを喜びました。　36 しかし、わたしには、ヨハネの証言よりも、もっとすぐれた証言があります。　それは、わたしの行なう奇蹟です。　これらの奇蹟は、父がわたしに託されたもので、父がわたしをお遣わしになったという、動かぬ証拠なのです。　37 また、父もおん自ら、直接あなたがたに姿を現わしたり、語りかけたりはなさいませんが、わたしのことを証言しておられます。　38 ところがどうです。　あなたがたは、父のことばを聞こうともしません。　神のことづけを伝えるために遣わされたわたしを、信じないのですから。
39 　あなたがたは、永遠のいのちを見つけようと、熱心に聖書を調べています。　その聖書は、わたしを指し示しているのです。　40 それなのにあなたがたは、わたしのところに来ようともしません。　ですから、永遠のいのちを受けることができないのです。
41-42 あなたがたがわたしを認めようが認めまいが、そんなことはどうでもいいことです。　あなたがたのうちには神の愛がないのですから。　43 わたしは父の代理として来たのに、あなたがたは喜んで迎えてはくれません。　ところが、ほかの人が、神から遣わされたのでもなく、ただ自分の権威を引っ下げて来ると、待ってましたとばかり、手をたたいて迎えるのです。　44 もっとも、あなたがたが信じられないのも、むりはありません。　互いにほめたり、ほめられたりすることは喜んでも、ただ一人の神からほめていただくことなどまるで関心がないのですから。
45 　しかし、このことであなたがたを父に訴えるのは、わたしではありません。　それはモーセです。　あなたがたはモーセのおきてにひたすら天国への望みをかけていますが、おきてを与えた当のモーセが訴えるのです。　46 それもみな、あなたがたがほんとうはモーセを信じていないからです。　モーセはわたしのことを書いたのです。　そのモーセを信じないから、わたしをも信じないのです。　47 モーセの書いたものを信じないくらいだから、わたしを信じないのも不思議はありません。」

John 5

1 After these things there was a feast of the Jews; and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.2 Now there is in Jerusalem by the sheep gate a pool, which is called in Hebrew Bethesda, having five porches.3 In these lay a multitude of them that were sick, blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water.4 for an angel of the Lord went down at certain seasons into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the waters stepped in was made whole, with whatsoever disease he was holden.5 And a certain man was there, who had been thirty and eight years in his infirmity.6 When Jesus saw him lying, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wouldest thou be made whole?7 The sick man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me.8 Jesus saith unto him, Arise, take up thy bed, and walk.9 And straightway the man was made whole, and took up his bed and walked. Now it was the sabbath on that day.10 So the Jews said unto him that was cured, It is the sabbath, and it is not lawful for thee to take up thy bed.11 But he answered them, He that made me whole, the same said unto me, Take up thy bed, and walk.12 They asked him, Who is the man that said unto thee, Take up thy bed, and walk?13 But he that was healed knew not who it was; for Jesus had conveyed himself away, a multitude being in the place.14 Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing befall thee.15 The man went away, and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him whole.16 And for this cause the Jews persecuted Jesus, because he did these things on the sabbath.17 But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh even until now, and I work.18 For this cause therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only brake the sabbath, but also called God his own Father, making himself equal with God.19 Jesus therefore answered and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father doing: for what things soever he doeth, these the Son also doeth in like manner.20 For the Father loveth the Son, and showeth him all things that himself doeth: and greater works than these will he show him, that ye may marvel.21 For as the Father raiseth the dead and giveth them life, even so the Son also giveth life to whom he will.22 For neither doth the Father judge any man, but he hath given all judgment unto the Son;23 that all may honor the Son, even as they honor the Father. He that honoreth not the Son honoreth not the Father that sent him.24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth him that sent me, hath eternal life, and cometh not into judgment, but hath passed out of death into life.25 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour cometh, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God; and they that hear shall live.26 For as the Father hath life in himself, even so gave he to the Son also to have life in himself:27 and he gave him authority to execute judgment, because he is a son of man.28 Marvel not at this: for the hour cometh, in which all that are in the tombs shall hear his voice,29 and shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of judgment.30 I can of myself do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is righteous; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.31 If I bear witness of myself, my witness is not true.32 It is another that beareth witness of me; and I know that the witness which he witnesseth of me is true.33 Ye have sent unto John, and he hath borne witness unto the truth.34 But the witness which I receive is not from man: howbeit I say these things, that ye may be saved.35 He was the lamp that burneth and shineth; and ye were willing to rejoice for a season in his light.36 But the witness which I have is greater than that of John; for the works which the Father hath given me to accomplish, the very works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me.37 And the Father that sent me, he hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his form.38 And ye have not his word abiding in you: for whom he sent, him ye believe not.39 Ye search the scriptures, because ye think that in them ye have eternal life; and these are they which bear witness of me;40 and ye will not come to me, that ye may have life.41 I receive not glory from men.42 But I know you, that ye have not the love of God in yourselves.43 I am come in my Father’s name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.44 How can ye believe, who receive glory one of another, and the glory that cometh from the only God ye seek not?45 Think not that I will accuse you to the Father: there is one that accuseth you, even Moses, on whom ye have set your hope.46 For if ye believed Moses, ye would believe me; for he wrote of me.47 But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?
