ヨハネによる福音書 7

七

1 　このあと、イエスはガリラヤに行かれ、村から村を巡回なさいました。　ユダヤ人の指導者たちが命をつけねらっていたので、ユダヤ以外の地に身を避けようと思われたからです。　2 そうこうするうち、ユダヤの年ごとの祭りである仮庵の祭りが近づきました。　3 イエスの弟たちは、祭りのためにユダヤへ行くよう、しきりに勧めました。「もっと大ぜいの人が奇蹟を見てくれるような所へ行ったらどうだい。　4 こんな所でくすぶってても有名にはなれないよ。　兄さんがそんなに偉いんだったら、世間の人に証明してみせなくっちゃ」と、半ばあざけるように言いました。　5 弟たちでさえ、イエスを信じていなかったのです。
6 　「今はまだ、その時ではありません。　しかし、あなたがたはいつ行ってもいいし、いつ行こうが、別にかまいません。　7 世間の人に憎まれるはずもありませんから。　だが、わたしは憎まれています。　彼らの痛いところを突くからです。　8 いいから、あなたがただけで行きなさい。　わたしは、行く時が来たら行きますから。」　9 こう言って、イエスはガリラヤに残っておられました。
10 　しかし、弟たちが出かけたあと、人目を忍んでこっそりお出かけになったのです。　11 ユダヤ人の指導者たちは、祭りの間にイエスを見つけ出してやろうと思い、「だれかイエスを見かけた者はいないか」と、やっきになって尋ね回りました。　12 確かに、イエスのことはいろいろ話題になりました。　「あの方はすばらしい方だ」とほめる者もいれば、「いや、違う。　とんだ食わせ物だ」と非難する者もいます。　13 しかし、だれも指導者たちの仕返しを恐れ、表立ってうわさするほど大胆な人はいませんでした。
14 　祭りも半ばになったころ、イエスは宮へ行き、おおっぴらに教え始められました。　15 それを聞いたユダヤ人の指導者たちは驚いて、「こいつは、一度も学校で学んだことがないくせに、どうして、こんなに深い知識を持ってるんだろう！」と言い合いました。
16 　「わたしの教えは、自分で考え出したことではありません。　わたしをお遣わしになった神の教えなのです。　17 ほんとうに神の望まれるとおりのことをしようと思う人なら、わたしの教えが神から出たものか、あるいはわたしから出たものか、はっきりわかるはずです。　18 自分の意見だけをまくし立てる人は、実は、わが身がほめられたい一心なのです。　しかし、自分をお遣わしになった方の栄誉を求める人は、正直者です。　19 自分ではモーセのおきてを守らないのに、どうして、おきてを破ったと、わたしを非難するのですか。　どうして命までつけねらうのですか。」
20 　群衆が答えました。　「おい、気でも変になったんじゃないか。　だれがあんたを殺そうってんだい？」
21-23 「わたしが安息日に病気の人を治したら、労働をしたと驚いています。　だが、あなたがたはどうでしょうか。　モーセのおきてどおりに割礼（男子が生まれて八日目にその生殖器の包皮を切り取る儀式）を施すためには〔実際は、割礼の習慣はモーセのおきてより古くからあったのですが〕、安息日でも、平気で労働するではありませんか。　割礼の日がちょうど安息日にあたっても、別だん気にもかけず、あたりまえのように割礼を施しています。　それなら、安息日に病人を元気にしてやって、どこが悪いでしょうか？　何を根拠にわたしを非難するのですか。　24 よく考えてみなさい。　わたしの言うことはまちがっているでしょうか？」
25 　エルサレムの人々の間では、互いにこんなことが言い交わされていました。　「この人は、連中が殺そうとねらってる人じゃないか。　26 ところがさ、今ここで、おおっぴらに話をしてるってのに、だれも何も言わないんだからな。　指導者たちも、結局は、正真正銘のキリスト様だと認めちゃったのかね。　27 だけどさ、この人がキリスト様のわけはないよ。　どこの生まれか、身元が知れてるんだから。　キリスト様は、どこからともなく、突然、現われなさるはずだからね。」
28 　イエスは宮で、大声をあげて教えられました。　「皆さん。　確かに、わたしの生まれも、育ちもはっきりしています。　しかしわたしは、あなたがたの全く知らない方の代理なのです。　その方は真実です。　29 わたしはその方を知っています。　その方といっしょにいたのですから。　その方がわたしをお遣わしになったのです。」
30 　ユダヤ人の指導者たちは、何とかしてイエスを逮捕しようと思いました。　しかし、実際に手を出す者は一人もいません。　まだ、その時ではなかったのです。
31 　宮にいた人々の多くは、イエスを信じ、「これだけの奇蹟をなさるからには、やっぱりキリスト様じゃないだろうか」と言い合いました。
32 　パリサイ人たちは、群衆がこう考えているとわかるや、祭司長たちとぐるになり、イエスを逮捕するために、役人を差し向けました。　33 ところがイエスは、その人たちに言われました。　「まだその時ではありません。　もうしばらく、ここにいます。　そのあとで、わたしをお遣わしになった方のところに帰るのです。　34 その時には、わたしを捜しても、見つけることはできません。　また、わたしのいる所に来ることもできません。」
35 　このことばに、ユダヤ人の指導者たちはすっかり面食らいました。「こいつは、いったいどこへ行くつもりだろう。　もしかしたら、ユダヤを出て、外地のユダヤ人や、あるいは、ひょっとして外国人に教えを伝えようとでも考えてるのかもしれないな。　36 だが、捜しても見つけだせないとは、どういうことだろう。　それに、『わたしのいる所に来ることができない』とも言ったが、何のことやらまるで見当もつかない。」
37 　祭りの最後の一番大切な日に、イエスは大声で群衆に語りかけました。　「だれでも、のどが渇いているなら、わたしのところへ来て飲みなさい。　38 わたしを信じれば、心の奥底からいのちの水の川が流れ出ると、聖書（旧約）に、はっきり書いてあるでしょう！」　39 〔イエスは聖霊のことを言われたのです。　御霊は、イエスを信じる人すべてに与えられることになっていましたが、この時はまだでした。　イエスが、天にある栄光の座に戻っておられなかったからです。〕
40 　イエスがこう言われるのを聞いて、群衆のうちのある者は、「この人は、確かに、キリスト様のすぐ前に来るという、あの預言者だ！」と、確信をもって言いました。　41-42 「この方こそキリスト様だ！」と言いきる者もいました。　しかし、「いや、そんなはずはない。　まさかガリラヤみたいな所からキリスト様は出ないだろうよ。キリスト様は、れっきとしたダビデ王の血筋で、ダビデ王の生地ベツレヘムの村に生まれると、聖書（旧約）に、はっきり書いてあるんだからな」と主張する者まで現われました。　43 こんなぐあいで、イエスについての意見はまちまちでした。　44 中には、逮捕したいと思う者さえいましたが、手を出すまでには至りませんでした。
45 　イエスの逮捕に向かった宮の警備員たちは、すごすごと祭司長やパリサイ人たちのところに戻るほかありません。　「どうして、やつをつかまえて来なかったのかっ！」彼らはきびしく問いただしました。
46 　警備員たちは、口ごもりながら答えました。　「は、はい。　でも、あの人の話すことが、とてもすばらしくて......。　なにせ、これまで聞いたこともないようなお話なんですから。」
47 　これを聞くと、パリサイ人たちはあざ笑いました。　「さては、おまえたちも惑わされたな。　48 われわれユダヤ人の議員やパリサイ人の中で、あいつをメシヤ（救い主）だと信じてる者が、一人でもいるか？　49 そりゃあ、無知な連中は頭から信じきってるかもしらんがね。だが、やつらに何がわかるか。　罰あたり者めが。」
50 　その時、ニコデモが口を開きました。　〔そうです。夜ひそかにイエスを訪ねた、あのユダヤ人の指導者です。〕
51 　「おことばですがね、取り調べもしないうちに、有罪だと決めるのは、合法的ではありませんな。」
52 　「おや、あなたも卑しいガリラヤ人なんですか。　まあ、聖書（旧約）を調べることですな。　ガリラヤから預言者など出るはずがないことを、ご自分の目で確かめたらどうです。」
53 　こうして、一同は散会し、めいめい家に帰りました。赦された不倫の女

John 7

1 And after these things Jesus walked in Galilee: for he would not walk in Judaea, because the Jews sought to kill him.2 Now the feast of the Jews, the feast of tabernacles, was at hand.3 His brethren therefore said unto him, Depart hence, and go into Judaea, that thy disciples also may behold thy works which thou doest.4 For no man doeth anything in secret, and himself seeketh to be known openly. If thou doest these things, manifest thyself to the world.5 For even his brethren did not believe on him.6 Jesus therefore saith unto them, My time is not yet come; but your time is always ready.7 The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify of it, that its works are evil.8 Go ye up unto the feast: I go not up unto this feast; because my time is not yet fulfilled.9 And having said these things unto them, he abode still in Galilee.10 But when his brethren were gone up unto the feast, then went he also up, not publicly, but as it were in secret.11 The Jews therefore sought him at the feast, and said, Where is he?12 And there was much murmuring among the multitudes concerning him: some said, He is a good man; others said, Not so, but he leadeth the multitude astray.13 Yet no man spake openly of him for fear of the Jews.14 But when it was now the midst of the feast Jesus went up into the temple, and taught.15 The Jews therefore marvelled, saying, How knoweth this man letters, having never learned?16 Jesus therefore answered them and said, My teaching is not mine, but his that sent me.17 If any man willeth to do his will, he shall know of the teaching, whether it is of God, or whether I speak from myself.18 He that speaketh from himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh the glory of him that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.19 Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you doeth the law? Why seek ye to kill me?20 The multitude answered, Thou hast a demon: who seeketh to kill thee?21 Jesus answered and said unto them, I did one work, and ye all marvel because thereof.22 Moses hath given you circumcision (not that it is of Moses, but of the fathers); and on the sabbath ye circumcise a man.23 If a man receiveth circumcision on the sabbath, that the law of Moses may not be broken; are ye wroth with me, because I made a man every whit whole on the sabbath?24 Judge not according to appearance, but judge righteous judgment.25 Some therefore of them of Jerusalem said, Is not this he whom they seek to kill?26 And lo, he speaketh openly, and they say nothing unto him. Can it be that the rulers indeed know that this is the Christ?27 Howbeit we know this man whence he is: but when the Christ cometh, no one knoweth whence he is.28 Jesus therefore cried in the temple, teaching and saying, Ye both know me, and know whence I am; and I am not come of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom ye know not.29 I know him; because I am from him, and he sent me.30 They sought therefore to take him: and no man laid his hand on him, because his hour was not yet come.31 But of the multitude many believed on him; and they said, When the Christ shall come, will he do more signs than those which this man hath done?32 The Pharisees heard the multitude murmuring these things concerning him; and the chief priests and the Pharisees sent officers to take him.33 Jesus therefore said, Yet a little while am I with you, and I go unto him that sent me.34 Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, ye cannot come.35 The Jews therefore said among themselves, Whither will this man go that we shall not find him? will he go unto the Dispersion among the Greeks, and teach the Greeks?36 What is this word that he said, Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me; and where I am, ye cannot come?37 Now on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me and drink.38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, from within him shall flow rivers of living water.39 But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believed on him were to receive: for the Spirit was not yet given; because Jesus was not yet glorified.40 Some of the multitude therefore, when they heard these words, said, This is of a truth the prophet.41 Others said, This is the Christ. But some said, What, doth the Christ come out of Galilee?42 Hath not the scripture said that the Christ cometh of the seed of David, and from Bethlehem, the village where David was?43 So there arose a division in the multitude because of him.44 And some of them would have taken him; but no man laid hands on him.45 The officers therefore came to the chief priests and Pharisees; and they said unto them, Why did ye not bring him?46 The officers answered, Never a man so spake.47 The Pharisees therefore answered them, Are ye also led astray?48 Hath any of the rulers believed on him, or of the Pharisees?49 But this multitude that knoweth not the law are accursed.50 Nicodemus saith unto them (he that came to him before, being one of them),51 Doth our law judge a man, except it first hear from himself and know what he doeth?52 They answered and said unto him, Art thou also of Galilee? Search, and see that out of Galilee ariseth no prophet.

53 And they went every man unto his own house:
