Johannes 8
1 Jesus aber ging auf den Ölberg.2 Frühmorgens erschien er wieder im Tempel, und alles Volk kam zu ihm. Da setzte er sich nieder und lehrte sie.3 Die Schriftgelehrten aber und die Pharisäer brachten eine Frau zu ihm, die beim Ehebruch ertappt war, und stellten sie mitten auf den Platz.t4 Dann sprachen sie zu ihm: "Meister, diese Frau ist auf frischer Tat beim Ehebruch ertappt.5 Nun hat uns Moses im Gesetz befohlen, eine solche Frau zu steinigen.t Was sagst du dazu?"6 Mit dieser Frage wollten sie ihm eine Falle stellen, damit sie einen Grund zur Anklage gegen ihn hätten.t Jesus aber bückte sich nieder und schrieb mit seinem Finger auf die Erde.t7 Als sie dann ihre Frage mehrfach wiederholten, sah er auf und sprach zu ihnen: "Wer von euch ohne Sünde ist, der werfe den ersten Stein auf sie!"8 Dann bückte er sich wieder und schrieb auf die Erde.9 Sie aber gingen nach dieser Antwort einer nach dem anderen weg, die Ältesten zuerst. Nur Jesus allein blieb da mit der Frau, die mitten auf dem Platz stand.10 Da blickte Jesus auf und sprach zu ihr: "Wo sind deine Ankläger? Hat dich keiner verurteilt?"11 Sie antwortete: "Nein, Herr!" Da sprach er zu ihr: "Auch ich verurteile dich nicht. Geh, sündige hinfort nicht mehr!"12 Dann redete Jesus abermals zu ihnen und sprach: "Ich bin das Licht der Welt.t Wer mir folgt, der wird nicht in der Finsternis wandeln, sondern er wird das Licht des Lebenst haben."13 Da sprachen die Pharisäer zu ihm: "Du legst für dich selbst Zeugnis ab. Darum gilt dein Zeugnis nicht."14 Jesus antwortete ihnen: "Auch wenn ich für mich selbst Zeugnis ablege, so ist mein Zeugnis gültig; denn ich weiß, woher ich gekommen bin oder wohin ich gehe. Ihr aber wißt nicht, woher ich komme oder wohin ich gehe.15 Ihr richtet nach dem äußeren Schein, ich richte niemand.t16 Wenn ich aber richte, so ist mein Urteil recht. Denn ich bin's nicht allein, der richtet, sondern mit mir richtet auch der Vater, der mich gesandt hat.17 Nun steht aber auch in euerm Gesetz geschrieben, daß das Zeugnis zweier gültig ist.t18 Ich lege Zeugnis für mich ab, und auch der Vater, der mich gesandt, legt Zeugnis für mich ab."19 Da sprachen sie zu ihm: "Wo ist denn dein Vater?" Jesus antwortete: "Ihr kennt meinen Vater so wenig wie mich. Kenntet ihr mich, so kenntet ihr auch meinen Vater."20 Diese Worte sprach er in der Nähe des Opferstockes,t als er im Tempel lehrte. Doch niemand legte Hand an ihn, denn seine Stunde war noch nicht gekommen.t21 Noch einmalt sprach er dann zu ihnen:t "Ich will nun weggehen. Ihr werdet mich dann (hilfsverlangend) suchen; doch ihr sollt in eurer Sünde sterben.t Wohin ich gehe, dorthin könnt ihr nicht kommen."22 Da fragten die Juden: "Will er sich etwa das Leben nehmen, weil er sagt: 'Wohin ich gehe, dorthin könnt ihr nicht kommen?"t23 Er antwortete ihnen: "Ihr stammt von unten her; ich stamme von oben her. Ihr gehört zu dieser Welt,t ich gehöre nicht zu dieser Welt.24 Darumt habe ich euch gesagt, daß ihr in euern Sünden sterben sollt. Denn glaubt ihr nicht, daß ich es bin,t so werdet ihr in euern Sünden sterben."25 Da fragten sie ihn: "Wer bist du denn?" Jesus antwortete ihnen: "Überhaupt — warum rede ich nur noch zu euch?t26 Viel habe ich freilich über euch zu reden und zu richten. Docht er, der mich gesandt hat, ist zuverlässig; und was ich von ihm gehört habe, das rede ich nun in der Welt."27 Sie verstanden aber nicht, daß er zu ihnen von dem Vater redete.28 Darum fuhr Jesus fort: "Wenn ihr den Menschensohn erhöht habt,t dann werdet ihr verstehen, daß ich (der Messias) bin. Aus eigener Befugnis tue ich nichts, sondern nach der Unterweisung meines Vaters trage ich meine Lehre vor.29 Und er, der mich gesandt, steht mir zur Seite. Er hat mich nie allein gelassen; denn ich tue allezeit, was ihm gefällt."30 Als er so redete, wurden viele an ihn gläubig.31 Jesus sprach dann zu diesen Juden, die nun an ihn glaubten: "Haltet ihr an meiner Lehre fest, so seid ihr wirklich meine Jünger.32 Dann werdet ihr auch die Wahrheit erkennen, und die Wahrheit wird euch frei machen."33 Da antworteten sie ihm: "Wir sind Abrahams Nachkomment und haben niemals jemand als leibeigene Knechte gedient. Wie kannst du da sagen: 'Ihr sollt frei werden?'"t34 Jesus erwiderte ihnen: "Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch: Wer Sünde tut, der ist der Sünde Knecht.35 Nun hat ein Knecht im Haus (seines Herrn) keine bleibende Wohnstatt;t ein Sohn dagegen hat im Vaterhaus bleibend Recht.t36 Macht euch also der Sohn frei, so werdet ihr wirklich frei sein.37 Ihr seid Abrahams Nachkommen, das weiß ich wohl. Doch ihr steht mir nach dem Leben,t weil mein Wort in euern Herzen keinen Boden findet.t38 Was ich bei meinem Vater gesehen habe, das verkünde ich. Ebenso stimmt euer Tun mit dem, was ihr von euerm Vater gehört habt."39 "Unser Vater", so erwiderten sie ihm, "ist Abraham." Jesus entgegnete ihnen: "Wäret ihr Abrahams Kinder, so tätet ihr auch Abrahams Werke.40 Nun aber sucht ihr mich zu töten, obwohl ich euch die Wahrheit, die ich von Gott gehört, verkündigt habe. So etwast hat Abraham nicht getan.41 Ihr handelt ganz wie euer Vater." Da sprachen sie zu ihm: "Wir sind doch nicht aus Hurerei entsprossen;t Gott allein ist unser Vater."t42 Jesus erwiderte ihnen: "Wäre Gott euer Vater, so hättet ihr mich lieb. Denn ich bin von Gott ausgegangen und gekommen. Ich bin auch nicht eigenmächtig aufgetreten, sondern er hat mich gesandt.43 Warum versteht ihr denn meine Redeweise nicht? Weil ihr nicht fähig seid, meinen Worten voll Empfänglichkeit zu lauschen.44 Ihr habt den Teufel zum Vater, und eure Lust ist, das zu tun, was euerm Vater Freude macht.t Der ist von Anfang ant ein Mörder gewesen,t und er steht nicht in der Wahrheit, weil keine Wahrheit in ihm ist. Wenn er die Lüge redet, so redet er aus seinem eigensten Wesen; denn er ist ein Lügner und der Lüge Vater.45 Ich aber finde keinen Glauben bei euch, weil ich die Wahrheit rede.46 Wer von euch vermag mir eine Sünde nachzuweisen? Wenn ich die Wahrheit rede, warum glaubt ihr mir dann nicht?47 Wer aus Gott ist, der hat ein Ohr für Gottes Worte. Ihr habt kein Ohr dafür, denn ihr seid nicht aus Gott."48 Da antworteten ihm die Juden: "Haben wir nicht recht, wenn wir behaupten: du bist ein Samaritert und von einem bösen Geist besessen?"49 Jesus erwiderte: "Ich bin von keinem bösen Geist besessen, sondern ich ehre meinen Vater, und was tut ihr? Ihr entehrt mich.50 Ich trete nicht für meine Ehre ein; es tritt aber einer dafür ein, und der spricht auch das Urteil.51 Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch: Wer mein Wort befolgt, der wird den Tod in Ewigkeit nicht sehen."52 Da sprachen die Juden zu ihm: "Nun wissen wir bestimmt, daß du von einem bösen Geist besessen bist. Abraham ist gestorben und ebenso die Propheten, und du sagst: 'Wer mein Wort befolgt, der wird den Tod in Ewigkeit nicht schmecken.'53 Bist du denn größer als unser Vater Abraham? Der hat doch sterben müssen. Und auch die Propheten sind gestorben. Was willst du denn sein?"54 Jesus erwiderte: "Wollte ich mich selbst verherrlichen, so wäre es nichts mit meiner Herrlichkeit. Nun ist es aber mein Vater, der mich verherrlicht. Der ist, wie ihr behauptet, euer Gott.55 Und doch kennt ihr ihn nicht. Ich aber kenne ihn. Und wollte ich sagen: 'ich kenne ihn nicht', so wäre ich ein Lügner ebenso wie ihr. Aber ich kenne ihn und folge seinem Wort.56 Euer Vater Abraham frohlocktet in der Hoffnung, meinen Tag zu sehen;t er hat ihn auch gesehent und sich gefreut."57 Da sprachen die Juden zu ihm:t "Du bist noch nicht fünfzig Jahre altt und willst Abraham gesehen haben?"58 Jesus antwortete ihnen: "Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch: Ehe Abraham ward, bin ich!"t59 Da hoben sie Steine auf, um sie auf ihn zu werfen. Jesus aber entzog sich ihren Blicken und verließ den Tempel.

1 but Jesus went unto the mount of Olives.2 And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them.3 And the scribes and the Pharisees bring a woman taken in adultery; and having set her in the midst,4 they say unto him, Teacher, this woman hath been taken in adultery, in the very act.5 Now in the law Moses commanded us to stone such: what then sayest thou of her?6 And this they said, trying him, that they might have whereof to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground.7 But when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.8 And again he stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground.9 And they, when they heard it, went out one by one, beginning from the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman, where she was, in the midst.10 And Jesus lifted up himself, and said unto her, Woman, where are they? did no man condemn thee?11 And she said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said, Neither do I condemn thee: go thy way; from henceforth sin no more.12 Again therefore Jesus spake unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in the darkness, but shall have the light of life.13 The Pharisees therefore said unto him, Thou bearest witness of thyself; thy witness is not true.14 Jesus answered and said unto them, Even if I bear witness of myself, my witness is true; for I know whence I came, and whither I go; but ye know not whence I come, or whither I go.15 Ye judge after the flesh; I judge no man.16 Yea and if I judge, my judgment is true; for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me.17 Yea and in your law it is written, that the witness of two men is true.18 I am he that beareth witness of myself, and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me.19 They said therefore unto him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye know neither me, nor my Father: if ye knew me, ye would know my Father also.20 These words spake he in the treasury, as he taught in the temple: and no man took him; because his hour was not yet come.21 He said therefore again unto them, I go away, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your sin: whither I go, ye cannot come.22 The Jews therefore said, Will he kill himself, that he saith, Whither I go, ye cannot come?23 And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world.24 I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for except ye believe that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.25 They said therefore unto him, Who art thou? Jesus said unto them, Even that which I have also spoken unto you from the beginning.26 I have many things to speak and to judge concerning you: howbeit he that sent me is true; and the things which I heard from him, these speak I unto the world.27 They perceived not that he spake to them of the Father.28 Jesus therefore said, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself, but as the Father taught me, I speak these things.29 And he that sent me is with me; he hath not left me alone; for I do always the things that are pleasing to him.30 As he spake these things, many believed on him.31 Jesus therefore said to those Jews that had believed him, If ye abide in my word, then are ye truly my disciples;32 and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.33 They answered unto him, We are Abraham’s seed, and have never yet been in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free?34 Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Every one that committeth sin is the bondservant of sin.35 And the bondservant abideth not in the house for ever: the son abideth for ever.36 If therefore the Son shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.37 I know that ye are Abraham’s seed: yet ye seek to kill me, because my word hath not free course in you.38 I speak the things which I have seen with my Father: and ye also do the things which ye heard from your father.39 They answered and said unto him, Our father is Abraham. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham’s children, ye would do the works of Abraham.40 But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I heard from God: this did not Abraham.41 Ye do the works of your father. They said unto him, We were not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God.42 Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I came forth and am come from God; for neither have I come of myself, but he sent me.43 Why do ye not understand my speech? Even because ye cannot hear my word.44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father it is your will to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and standeth not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father thereof.45 But because I say the truth, ye believe me not.46 Which of you convicteth me of sin? If I say truth, why do ye not believe me?47 He that is of God heareth the words of God: for this cause ye hear them not, because ye are not of God.48 The Jews answered and said unto him, Say we not well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a demon?49 Jesus answered, I have not a demon; but I honor my Father, and ye dishonor me.50 But I seek not mine own glory: there is one that seeketh and judgeth.51 Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my word, he shall never see death.52 The Jews said unto him, Now we know that thou hast a demon. Abraham died, and the prophets; and thou sayest, If a man keep my word, he shall never taste of death.53 Art thou greater than our father Abraham, who died? and the prophets died: whom makest thou thyself?54 Jesus answered, If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing: it is my Father that glorifieth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God;55 and ye have not known him: but I know him; and if I should say, I know him not, I shall be like unto you, a liar: but I know him, and keep his word.56 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day; and he saw it, and was glad.57 The Jews therefore said unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham?58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was born, I am.59 They took up stones therefore to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple.
