Ioan 8

1 Isus S-a dus spre Muntele Măslinilor.2 Dis-de-dimineață a venit iarăși în Templu și tot poporul a venit la El. El S-a așezat și a început să-i învețe.3 Cărturariit și fariseii au adus o femeie care fusese prinsă comițând adulter. Au pus-o să stea în mijloc

4 și L-au întrebat:
– Învățătorule, această femeie a fost prinsă chiar în timp ce comitea adulterul.5 În Lege, Moise ne-a poruncit ca pe astfel de femei să le ucidem cu pietre.t Tu deci ce zici?

6 Spuneau lucrul acesta ca să-L pună la încercare, pentru ca să aibă cu ce să-L acuze.
Isus însă S-a aplecat și a început să scrie cu degetul pe pământ.

7 Cum ei continuau să-L întrebe, El S-a ridicat și le-a zis:
– Acela dintre voi care este fără păcat, să arunce primul cu piatra în ea!

8 Apoi S-a aplecat din nou și a continuat să scrie pe pământ.

9 Când au auzit ei aceasta,t au ieșit afară unul câte unul, începând cu cei bătrâni, iar Isus a rămas singur cu femeia care stătea în mijloc.

10 Isus S-a ridicat și a întrebat-o:
– Femeie, unde sunt toți ? Nu te-a condamnat nimeni?

11 Ea a răspuns:
– Nimeni, Doamne!
Isus i-a zis:
– Nici Eu nu te condamn. Du-te și, de acum înainte, să nu mai păcătuiești!)t

Isus, Lumina lumii. Veridicitatea mărturiei lui Isus

12 Isus le-a vorbit din nou:
– Eu sunt lumina lumii. Cel ce Mă urmează pe Mine nu va umbla niciodată în întuneric, ci va avea lumina vieții.

13 Fariseii i-au zis:
– Tu depui mărturie despre Tine Însuți, deci mărturia Ta nu este adevărată.

14 Isus le-a răspuns:
– Chiar dacă Eu depun mărturie despre Mine Însumi, totuși mărturia Mea este adevărată, pentru că Eu știu de unde vin și unde Mă duc, dar voi nu știți nici de unde vin și nici unde Mă duc.15 Voi judecați după standarde omeneștit; Eu nu judec pe nimeni.16 Și chiar dacă aș judeca, judecata Mea este adevărată, pentru că Eu nu sunt singur, ci sunt împreună cu Tatăl Care M-a trimis.17 Chiar în Legea voastră este scris că mărturia a doi oameni este adevărată.t18 Sunt Eu Cel Ce depun mărturie despre Mine Însumi, și despre Mine depune mărturie și Tatăl Care M-a trimis.

19 Atunci I-au zis:
– Unde este Tatăl Tău?
Isus a răspuns:
– Voi nu Mă cunoașteți nici pe Mine și nici pe Tatăl Meu. Dacă M-ați cunoaște pe Mine, L-ați cunoaște și pe Tatăl Meu.

20 Aceste cuvinte le-a spus în vistieriet, în timp ce dădea învățătură în Templu, dar nu L-a arestat nimeni, pentru că încă nu-I venise ceasul.

21 El le-a zis iarăși:
– Eu Mă duc, iar voi Mă veți căuta, însă veți muri în păcatul vostru. Unde Mă duc Eu, voi nu puteți veni.

22 Atunci iudeii au zis: „Doar n-o avea de gând să Se omoare, de zice: «Unde Mă duc Eu, voi nu puteți veni.»?“

23 El le-a zis:
– Voi sunteți de jos; Eu sunt de sus. Voi sunteți din lumea aceasta; Eu nu sunt din lumea aceasta.24 Vă spun că veți muri în păcatele voastre. Căci dacă nu credeți că Eu sunt, veți muri în păcatele voastre.

25 Ei L-au întrebat:
– Cine ești Tu?
Isus le-a răspuns:
– Ceea ce v-am spus de la început.t26 Eu am multe de zis și de condamnat cu privire la voi, însă Cel Ce M-a trimis este adevărat, iar Eu, ceea ce am auzit de la El, aceea spun lumii.

27 Ei nu și-au dat seama că le vorbea despre Tatăl.

28 Isus le-a zis:
– Când Îl veți înălța pe Fiul Omului, atunci veți cunoaște că Eu sunt și că nu fac nimic de la Mine Însumi, ci spun aceste lucruri așa cum M-a învățat Tatăl.29 Iar Cel Ce M-a trimis este cu Mine. El nu M-a lăsat singur, pentru că Eu fac întotdeauna ceea ce-I este plăcut.

30 În timp ce spunea aceste lucruri, mulți au crezut în El.

Urmașii lui Avraam

31 Atunci Isus le-a zis iudeilor care crezuseră în El:
– Dacă rămâneți în Cuvântul Meu, atunci sunteți într-adevăr ucenicii Mei.32 Veți cunoaște adevărul, iar adevărul vă va elibera.

33 Ei I-au răspuns:
– Suntem urmașiit lui Avraam și n-am fost niciodată sclavii nimănui! Deci cum spui Tu: „Veți fi liberi“?!

34 Isus le-a răspuns:
– Adevărat, adevărat vă spun că oricine săvârșește păcatult este sclav al păcatului.35 Și sclavul nu rămâne veșnic în casă, însă fiul rămâne veșnic.36 Deci dacă Fiul vă eliberează, veți fi cu adevărat liberi.37 Știu că sunteți urmașii lui Avraam, dar cu toate acestea căutați să Mă omorâți, pentru că nu pătrunde în voi Cuvântul Meu.38 Eu spun ceea ce am văzut lat Tatăl; iar voi faceți ceea ce ați auzit de la tatăl vostru t.

39 Ei I-au răspuns:
– Tatăl nostru este Avraam!
Isus le-a zis:
– Dacă ați fi copiii lui Avraam, ați facet faptele lui Avraam.40 Însă acum încercați să Mă omorâți, pe Mine, un Om Care v-am spus adevărul pe care l-am auzit de la Dumnezeu. Așa ceva Avraam n-a făcut!

41 Voi faceți deci faptele tatălui vostru!
Atunci I-au zis:
– Noi nu suntem născuți din adulter! Avem un singur Tată: pe Dumnezeu!

42 Isus le-a zis:
– Dacă ar fi Dumnezeu Tatăl vostru, atunci M-ați iubi, pentru că Eu de la Dumnezeu am ieșit și am venit. Căci Eu n-am venit de la Mine Însumi, ci El M-a trimis.43 De ce nu înțelegeți vorbirea Mea? Pentru că nu puteți asculta Cuvântul Meu!44 Voi sunteți de la tatăl vostru, diavolul, și vreți să îndepliniți dorințele tatălui vostru! El de la început a fost ucigaș și n-a stat în adevăr, pentru că în el nu este adevăr. Ori de câte ori spune o minciună, el vorbește din ale lui, pentru că este mincinos și tatăl minciunii!45 Iar pe Mine, pentru că spun adevărul, nu Mă credeți!46 Care dintre voi Mă poate dovedi vinovat de păcat? Dacă spun adevărul, de ce nu Mă credeți?47 Cel ce este din Dumnezeu ascultă cuvintele lui Dumnezeu. Voi de aceea nu ascultați, pentru că nu sunteți din Dumnezeu!

Isus este înainte de Avraam

48 Iudeii I-au răspuns:
– Nu zicem noi bine că ești samariteant și că ai demon?!

49 Isus le-a zis:
– Eu nu am demon, ci Îl onorez pe Tatăl Meu, iar voi Mă dezonorați pe Mine.50 Totuși Eu nu caut slavă pentru Mine; este Unul Care o caută și Care judecă.51 Adevărat, adevărat vă spun că, dacă păzește cineva Cuvântul Meu în veac nu va vedea moartea.

52 Atunci iudeii I-au zis:
– Acum știm că ai demon! Avraam a murit, profeții – de asemenea, și Tu zici: „Dacă păzește cineva Cuvântul Meu, în veac nu va gusta moartea“!53 Doar nu ești Tu mai mare decât tatăl nostru Avraam, care a murit?! Și profeții au murit! Cine Te crezi Tu că ești?!

54 Isus le-a răspuns:
– Dacă Eu Mă slăvesc pe Mine Însumi, slava Mea nu înseamnă nimic. Tatăl Meu este Cel Care Mă slăvește, Cel despre Care voi spuneți: „Este Dumnezeul nostru!“,55 deși nu-L cunoașteți. Eu însă Îl cunosc, iar dacă aș spune că nu-L cunosc, aș fi și Eu un mincinos ca voi. Dar Îl cunosc și păzesc Cuvântul Lui.56 Avraam, tatăl vostru, s-a bucurat nespus de mult că are să vadă ziua Mea; a văzut-o și s-a bucurat.

57 Atunci iudeii I-au zis:
– N-ai nici cincizeci de ani și l-ai văzut pe Avraam?!

58 Isus le-a răspuns:
– Adevărat, adevărat vă spun că, mai înainte să se fi născut Avraam, Eu suntt!

59 Atunci au luat pietre ca să arunce în El. Dar Isus S-a ascuns și a ieșit din Templu.

JOHN 8

1 but Jesus walked out to the Mount of Olives.

2 Then early the next morning he went to the temple. The people came to him, and he sat downt and started teaching them.
3 The Pharisees and the teachers of the Law of Moses brought in a woman who had been caught in bed with a man who wasn't her husband. They made her stand in the middle of the crowd. 4 Then they said, “Teacher, this woman was caught sleeping with a man who isn't her husband.

5 t The Law of Moses teaches that a woman like this should be stoned to death! What do you say?”

6 They asked Jesus this question, because they wanted to test him and bring some charge against him. But Jesus simply bent over and started writing on the ground with his finger.
7  t They kept on asking Jesus about the woman. Finally, he stood up and said, “If any of you have never sinned, then go ahead and throw the first stone at her!” 8 Once again he bent over and began writing on the ground.

9 The people left one by one, beginning with the oldest. Finally, Jesus and the woman were there alone.

10 Jesus stood up and asked her, “Where is everyone? Isn't there anyone left to accuse you?”

11 “No sir,” the woman answered.
Then Jesus told her, “I am not going to accuse you either. You may go now, but don't sin anymore.”t

Jesus Is //the Light for the World

12  t Once again Jesus spoke to the people. This time he said, “I am the light for the world! Follow me, and you won't be walking in the dark. You will have the light that gives life.”

13  t The Pharisees objected, “You are the only one speaking for yourself, and what you say isn't true!”

14 Jesus replied:
Even if I do speak for myself, what I say is true! I know where I came from and where I am going. But you don't know where I am from or where I am going. 15 You judge in the same way that everyone else does, but I don't judge anyone. 16 If I did judge, I would judge fairly, because I would not be doing it alone. The Father who sent me is here with me. 17 t Your Law requires two witnesses to prove that something is true.

18 I am one of my witnesses, and the Father who sent me is the other one.

19 “Where is your Father?” they asked.
“You don't know me or my Father!” Jesus answered. “If you knew me, you would know my Father.”

20 Jesus said this while he was still teaching in the place where the temple treasures were stored. But no one arrested him, because his time had not yet come.t

You Cannot Go Where //I Am Going

21 Jesus also told them, “I am going away, and you will look for me. But you cannot go where I am going, and you will die with your sins unforgiven.”

22 The people asked, “Does he intend to kill himself? Is that what he means by saying we cannot go where he is going?”
23 Jesus answered, “You are from below, but I am from above. You belong to this world, but I don't.

24 This is why I said you will die with your sins unforgiven. If you don't have faith in me for who I am, t you will die, and your sins will not be forgiven.”

25 “Who are you?” they asked Jesus.
Jesus answered, “I am exactly who I told you at the beginning.

26 There is a lot more I could say to condemn you. But the one who sent me is truthful, and I tell the people of this world only what I have heard from him.”

27 No one understood that Jesus was talking to them about the Father.
28 Jesus went on to say, “When you have lifted up the Son of Man, t you will know who I am. You will also know that I don't do anything on my own. I say only what my Father taught me.

29 The one who sent me is with me. I always do what pleases him, and he will never leave me.”

30 After Jesus said this, many of the people put their faith in him.

The Truth Will Set You Free

32 t You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

33  t They answered, “We are Abraham's children! We have never been anyone's slaves. How can you say we will be set free?”

34 Jesus replied:
I tell you for certain that anyone who sins is a slave of sin! 35 And slaves don't stay in the family forever, though the Son will always remain in the family. 36 If the Son gives you freedom, you are free! 37 I know that you are from Abraham's family. Yet you want to kill me, because my message isn't really in your hearts.

38 I am telling you what my Father has shown me, just as you are doing what your father has taught you.

Your Father Is the Devil

39 The people said to Jesus, “Abraham is our father!”
Jesus replied, “If you were Abraham's children, you would do what Abraham did. 40 Instead, you want to kill me for telling you the truth that God gave me. Abraham never did anything like that.

41 But you are doing exactly what your father does.”
“Don't accuse us of having someone else as our father!” they said. “We just have one father, and he is God.”

42 Jesus answered:
If God were your Father, you would love me, because I came from God and now I am here. He sent me. I did not come on my own. 43 Why can't you understand what I am talking about? Can't you stand to hear what I am saying?

44 t Your father is the devil, and you do exactly what he wants. He has always been a murderer and a liar. There is nothing truthful about him. He speaks on his own, and everything he says is a lie. Not only is he a liar himself, but he is also the father of all lies.
45 Everything I have told you is true, and you still refuse to have faith in me. 46 Can any of you accuse me of sin? If you cannot, why won't you have faith in me? After all, I am telling you the truth.

47 Anyone who belongs to God will listen to his message. But you refuse to listen, because you don't belong to God.

Jesus and Abraham

48 The people told Jesus, “We were right to say that you are a Samaritant and that you have a demon in you!”
49 Jesus answered, “I don't have a demon in me. I honor my Father, and you refuse to honor me. 50 I don't want honor for myself. But there is one who wants me to be honored, and he is also the one who judges.

51 I tell you for certain that if you obey my words, you will never die.”
52 Then the people said, “Now we are sure that you have a demon. Abraham is dead, and so are the prophets. How can you say that no one who obeys your words will ever die?

53 Are you greater than our father Abraham? He died, and so did the prophets. Who do you think you are?”
54 Jesus replied, “If I honored myself, it would mean nothing. My Father is the one who honors me. You claim that he is your God, 55 even though you don't really know him. If I said I didn't know him, I would be a liar, just like all of you. But I know him, and I do what he says.

56 Your father Abraham was really glad to see me.”

57 “You are not even 50 years old!” they said. “How could you have seen Abraham?”
58 Jesus answered, “I tell you for certain that even before Abraham was, I was, and I am.”t 59 The people picked up stones to kill Jesus, but he hid and left the temple.
