Йоан 8

1 Ісус же пійшов на гору Оливну.2 Вранцї ж ізнов прийшов у церкву, і всї люде приходили до Него; й сївши навчав їх.3 Приводять же письменники та Фарисеї до Него жінку, схоплену в перелюбі, і, поставивши її посерединї,4 кажуть Йому: Учителю, сю жінку схоплено в перелюбі, на самому вчинку.5 В законї ж Мойсей нам звелїв таких каменувати; Ти ж що кажеш?6 Се ж казали, спокушуючи Його, щоб мали чим винувати Його. Ісус же, схилившись до долу, писав пальцем по землї.7 Як же не переставали питати Його, піднявшись рече до них: Хто з вас без гріха, нехай первий кине камінь на неї.8 І, знов, схилившись до долу, писав по землї.9 Вони ж, почувши й докорені совістю, вийшли один за одним, почавши від старших та аж до останнїх; і зоставсь один Ісус та жінка, стоячи посерединї.10 Піднявши ся ж Ісус і нїкого не бачивши, тільки жінку, рече їй: Жінко, де ж ті винувателї твої? нїхто тебе не осудив?11 Вона ж каже: Нїхто, Господи. Рече ж їй Ісус: І я тебе не суджу: йди, і більш не гріши.12 Знов же промовляв їм Ісус, глаголючи: Я сьвітло сьвіту. Хто йде слїдом за мною, не ходити ме в темряві, а мати ме сьвітло життя.13 Казали тодї Йому Фарисеї: Ти про себе сьвідкуєш; сьвідченнє Твоє неправдиве.14 Озвавсь Ісус і рече їм: Хоч я сьвідкую про себе, правдиве сьвідченнє моє; бо я знаю, звідкіля я прийшов, і куди йду.15 Ви по тїлу судите; я не суджу нїкого.16 Коли ж я суджу, суд мій правдивий; бо я не один, а я й пославший мене Отець.17 І в законї ж вашому написано, що двох людей сьвідченнє правдиве.18 Я сьвідкую про себе, й сьвідкує про мене пославший мене Отець.19 Казали тодї Йому: Де Отець Твій? Відказав Ісус: Нї мене не знаєте, нї Отця мого. Коли б мене знали, й Отця мого знали б.20 Такі слова промовив Ісус у скарбницї, навчаючи в церкві; і нїхто не хапав Його; бо ще не прийшла година Його.21 Рече їм тодї знов Ісус: Я йду, й шукати мете мене, і в гріхах ваших повмираєте. Куди ж я йду, ви не можете йти.22 Сказали тодї Жиди: Чи не вбє Він себе, що каже: Куди я йду, ви не можете йти?23 І рече їм: Ви од нижнього, я од вишнього; ви од сьвіту сього, я не од сьвіту сього.24 Тим я сказав вам, що повмираєте в гріхах ваших: коли бо не увіруєте, що се я, повмираєте в гріхах ваших.25 Казали тодї Йому: Хто Ти єси? І рече їм Ісус: Той, що з почину, як і глаголю вам.26 Багато маю про вас глаголати й судити; тільки ж Пославший мене правдивий; і я, що чув від Него, се глаголю в сьвітї.27 Не розуміли, що про Отця їм глаголе.28 Рече ж їм Ісус: Як знесете вгору Сина чоловічого, тодї зрозумієте, що се я, і що від себе не роблю нїчого; тільки, як навчив мене Отець мій, таке глаголю.29 І Пославший мене - зо мною; не зоставив мене одного Отець; бо я роблю всякого часу, що подобаєть ся Йому.30 Як се Він промовляв, многі увірували в Него.31 Рече тодї Ісус до Жидів, що увірували Йому: Коли пробувати мете у слові моєму, справдї ви ученики мої будете,32 і зрозумієте правду, й правда визволить вас.33 Відказали Йому: Ми насїннє Авраамове, й нї в кого не були в неволї нїколи. Як же Ти говориш, що вільнї будете?34 Відказав їм Ісус: Істино, істино глаголю вам: Що всякий, хто робить гріх, невільник гріха.35 Невільник же не пробуває в дому до віку, Син пробуває до віку.36 Коли ж Син визволить вас, справдї вільними будете.37 Знаю, що ви насїннє Авраамове; та шукаєте вбити мене, бо слово моє не містить ся в вас.38 Я, що видїв ув Отця мого, глаголю; а ви, що видїли в отця вашого, робите.39 Озвались вони й казали Йому: Отець наш Авраам. Рече їм Ісус: Коли б ви дїти Авраамові були, дїла Авраамові робили б.40 Тепер же шукаєте вбити мене, чоловіка, що вам правду глаголав, котру чув я від Бога. Сього Авраам не робив.41 Ви робите дїла отця вашого. Казали тодї Йому: Ми не з перелюбу родились: одного Отця маємо, Бога.42 Рече ж їм Ісус: Коли б Бог отець ваш був, любили б ви мене; бо я від Бога вийшов і приходжу, бо не від себе прийшов я, а Він мене післав.43 Чом бесїди моєї не розумієте? Бо не можете слухати слова мого.44 Ви від отця диявола, й хотїння отця вашого диявола хочете робити. Той був душогубцем з почину, й в правдї не встояв; бо нема правди в йому. Коли говорить брехню, із свого говорить; бо він брехун і отець її.45 А що я правду глаголю, не віруєте менї.46 Хто з вас докорить менї за гріх? Коли ж правду глаголю, чому ви не віруєте менї?47 Хто від Бога, слова Божі слухає. Тому ви не слухаєте, що ви не від Бога.48 Озвались тодї Жиди, й казали Йому: Чи не добре ми кажемо, що Самарянин єси Ти, і біса маєш?49 Відказав Ісус: Я біса не маю, а шаную Отця мого; ви ж не шануєте мене.50 Я ж не шукаю моєї слави; єсть, хто шукає й судить.51 Істино, істино глаголю вам: Коли хто слово моє хоронити ме, смерти не побачить по вік.52 Сказали тодї Йому Жиди: Тепер ми знаємо, що Ти біса маєш. Авраам умер і пророки, а Ти кажеш: Коли хто слово моє хоронити ме, не вкусить смерти по вік.53 Хиба Ти більший єси, нїж отець наш Авраам, що вмер? І пророки повмирали. Ким Ти себе робиш?54 Відказав Ісус: Коли я прославляю себе, слава моя нїщо. Єсть Отець мій, що прославляє мене, про котрого ви кажете, що Він Бог ваш.55 І не пізнали Його; я ж знаю Його. А коли я скажу, що не знаю Його, буду подобний вам ложник. Нї, знаю Його, й слово Його хороню.56 Авраам, отець ваш, рад був видїти день мій; та він увидїв, і зрадїв.57 Казали тодї Жиди до Него: Не маєш пятидесяти років ще, і Авраама видїв єси?58 Рече їм Ісус: Істино, істино глаголю вам: Перш нїж Авраамові бути, я був.59 Брали тодї каміннє, щоб кидати на Него; Ісус же сховав ся, і вийшов з церкви, пройшовши посеред них, і пійшов так мимо.

JOHN 8

1 but Jesus walked out to the Mount of Olives.

2 Then early the next morning he went to the temple. The people came to him, and he sat downt and started teaching them.
3 The Pharisees and the teachers of the Law of Moses brought in a woman who had been caught in bed with a man who wasn't her husband. They made her stand in the middle of the crowd. 4 Then they said, “Teacher, this woman was caught sleeping with a man who isn't her husband.

5 t The Law of Moses teaches that a woman like this should be stoned to death! What do you say?”

6 They asked Jesus this question, because they wanted to test him and bring some charge against him. But Jesus simply bent over and started writing on the ground with his finger.
7  t They kept on asking Jesus about the woman. Finally, he stood up and said, “If any of you have never sinned, then go ahead and throw the first stone at her!” 8 Once again he bent over and began writing on the ground.

9 The people left one by one, beginning with the oldest. Finally, Jesus and the woman were there alone.

10 Jesus stood up and asked her, “Where is everyone? Isn't there anyone left to accuse you?”

11 “No sir,” the woman answered.
Then Jesus told her, “I am not going to accuse you either. You may go now, but don't sin anymore.”t

Jesus Is //the Light for the World

12  t Once again Jesus spoke to the people. This time he said, “I am the light for the world! Follow me, and you won't be walking in the dark. You will have the light that gives life.”

13  t The Pharisees objected, “You are the only one speaking for yourself, and what you say isn't true!”

14 Jesus replied:
Even if I do speak for myself, what I say is true! I know where I came from and where I am going. But you don't know where I am from or where I am going. 15 You judge in the same way that everyone else does, but I don't judge anyone. 16 If I did judge, I would judge fairly, because I would not be doing it alone. The Father who sent me is here with me. 17 t Your Law requires two witnesses to prove that something is true.

18 I am one of my witnesses, and the Father who sent me is the other one.

19 “Where is your Father?” they asked.
“You don't know me or my Father!” Jesus answered. “If you knew me, you would know my Father.”

20 Jesus said this while he was still teaching in the place where the temple treasures were stored. But no one arrested him, because his time had not yet come.t

You Cannot Go Where //I Am Going

21 Jesus also told them, “I am going away, and you will look for me. But you cannot go where I am going, and you will die with your sins unforgiven.”

22 The people asked, “Does he intend to kill himself? Is that what he means by saying we cannot go where he is going?”
23 Jesus answered, “You are from below, but I am from above. You belong to this world, but I don't.

24 This is why I said you will die with your sins unforgiven. If you don't have faith in me for who I am, t you will die, and your sins will not be forgiven.”

25 “Who are you?” they asked Jesus.
Jesus answered, “I am exactly who I told you at the beginning.

26 There is a lot more I could say to condemn you. But the one who sent me is truthful, and I tell the people of this world only what I have heard from him.”

27 No one understood that Jesus was talking to them about the Father.
28 Jesus went on to say, “When you have lifted up the Son of Man, t you will know who I am. You will also know that I don't do anything on my own. I say only what my Father taught me.

29 The one who sent me is with me. I always do what pleases him, and he will never leave me.”

30 After Jesus said this, many of the people put their faith in him.

The Truth Will Set You Free

32 t You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

33  t They answered, “We are Abraham's children! We have never been anyone's slaves. How can you say we will be set free?”

34 Jesus replied:
I tell you for certain that anyone who sins is a slave of sin! 35 And slaves don't stay in the family forever, though the Son will always remain in the family. 36 If the Son gives you freedom, you are free! 37 I know that you are from Abraham's family. Yet you want to kill me, because my message isn't really in your hearts.

38 I am telling you what my Father has shown me, just as you are doing what your father has taught you.

Your Father Is the Devil

39 The people said to Jesus, “Abraham is our father!”
Jesus replied, “If you were Abraham's children, you would do what Abraham did. 40 Instead, you want to kill me for telling you the truth that God gave me. Abraham never did anything like that.

41 But you are doing exactly what your father does.”
“Don't accuse us of having someone else as our father!” they said. “We just have one father, and he is God.”

42 Jesus answered:
If God were your Father, you would love me, because I came from God and now I am here. He sent me. I did not come on my own. 43 Why can't you understand what I am talking about? Can't you stand to hear what I am saying?

44 t Your father is the devil, and you do exactly what he wants. He has always been a murderer and a liar. There is nothing truthful about him. He speaks on his own, and everything he says is a lie. Not only is he a liar himself, but he is also the father of all lies.
45 Everything I have told you is true, and you still refuse to have faith in me. 46 Can any of you accuse me of sin? If you cannot, why won't you have faith in me? After all, I am telling you the truth.

47 Anyone who belongs to God will listen to his message. But you refuse to listen, because you don't belong to God.

Jesus and Abraham

48 The people told Jesus, “We were right to say that you are a Samaritant and that you have a demon in you!”
49 Jesus answered, “I don't have a demon in me. I honor my Father, and you refuse to honor me. 50 I don't want honor for myself. But there is one who wants me to be honored, and he is also the one who judges.

51 I tell you for certain that if you obey my words, you will never die.”
52 Then the people said, “Now we are sure that you have a demon. Abraham is dead, and so are the prophets. How can you say that no one who obeys your words will ever die?

53 Are you greater than our father Abraham? He died, and so did the prophets. Who do you think you are?”
54 Jesus replied, “If I honored myself, it would mean nothing. My Father is the one who honors me. You claim that he is your God, 55 even though you don't really know him. If I said I didn't know him, I would be a liar, just like all of you. But I know him, and I do what he says.

56 Your father Abraham was really glad to see me.”

57 “You are not even 50 years old!” they said. “How could you have seen Abraham?”
58 Jesus answered, “I tell you for certain that even before Abraham was, I was, and I am.”t 59 The people picked up stones to kill Jesus, but he hid and left the temple.
