János 8

A házasságtörő asszony esete

1 Jézus felment az Olajfák hegyére.

2 Korán reggel ismét visszatért a Templom területére. Az emberek mind köré gyűltek, ő pedig leült, és tanította őket.

3 A törvénytanítók és a farizeusok odahoztak Jézushoz egy asszonyt, akit rajtakaptak, hogy házasságtörést követett el. Középre állították,

4 és megkérdezték Jézust: „Mester, ezt az asszonyt tetten érték házasságtörés közben.

5 Mózes a Törvényben azt parancsolta, hogy az ilyen asszonyt kövekkel agyon kell dobálni: így kell megölni. Hát te mit mondasz?”

6 Ezt azért kérdezték, hogy Jézust próbára tegyék, és vádolhassák valamivel. De ő nem válaszolt, csak lehajolt, és az ujjával írni kezdett a földre.

7 Mivel tovább kérdezgették, végre felállt, és azt mondta nekik: „Van itt köztetek olyan, aki még nem követett el bűnt? Ha van, akkor ő dobja az asszonyra az első követ!”

8 Majd újra lehajolt, és tovább írt a földre.

9 Ezt hallva, a törvénytanítók és farizeusok kezdtek elszállingózni. Először az idősebbek távoztak, majd egymás után mind eltűntek. Végül csak Jézus és a középen álló asszony maradt ott.

10 Ekkor Jézus felegyenesedett, és megszólította: „Asszony, hol vannak a vádlóid? Senki nem ítélt el téged?”

11 Az asszony felelt: „Senki, Uram.”
Jézus így felelt: „Én sem ítéllek el. Menj el, de többé ne vétkezz!”

A világ világossága

12 Később Jézus ezt mondta az összegyűlt sokaságnak: „Én vagyok a világ világossága. Aki engem követ, nem a sötétségben él, hanem a világosságban, amely maga az örök élet.”

13 Ekkor a farizeusok megjegyezték: „Amikor magadról tanúskodsz, te vagy az egyetlen, aki azt állítja, hogy ez igaz. Ezért a tanúságod nem érvényes!”

14 Jézus így felelt: „Még ha magamról beszélek, akkor is érvényes a tanúságom, mert én tudom, honnan jöttem, és hová megyek. De ti nem tudjátok, honnan jöttem, és hová megyek.

15 Ti emberi módon, a látszat szerint ítéltek. Én azonban nem ítélek el senkit.

16 De ha mégis ítélek, az ítéletem akkor is érvényes és igazságos. Miért? Azért, mert nem egyedül ítélek. Velem van az Atya, aki elküldött engem.

17 A Törvényetek azt mondja: ha két tanú ugyanazt állítja, akkor el kell fogadnotok, hogy igazat mondanak.

18 Én vagyok az egyik tanú, aki önmagamról tanúskodok, és az Atya a másik tanú, aki engem küldött: ő is tanúskodik rólam.”

19 Megkérdezték tőle: „Ki a te Atyád, és hol van?”
Jézus így válaszolt: „Ti ugyanúgy nem ismertek engem, ahogy Atyámat sem ismeritek. Ha tudnátok, ki vagyok, ismernétek Atyámat is.”

20 Jézus mindezt akkor mondta, amikor a Templom területén tanított, annak a helynek a közelében, ahol az adományokat gyűjtötték. Senki sem tartóztatta le, mert még nem jött el az ideje.

Jézus az Atyától jött, és hozzá megy

21 Azután Jézus ezt mondta: „Én elmegyek, ti pedig keresni fogtok engem. De ahová megyek, oda ti nem jöhettek, és a bűneitekben fogtok meghalni.”

22 Ekkor a zsidó vezetők egymás között tanakodtak: „Talán meg akarja ölni magát, hogy azt mondja: »Ahová én megyek, oda ti nem jöhettek«?”

23 Jézus így folytatta: „Ti innen a földről származtok, én pedig fentről származom. Ti ehhez a világhoz tartoztok, de én nem.

24 Ezért mondtam nektek, hogy a bűneitekben fogtok meghalni. Bizony, ha nem hiszitek, hogy ÉN VAGYOKt, akkor a bűneitekben haltok meg.”

25 Ekkor azok megkérdezték: „Ki vagy te tulajdonképpen?”
Jézus így válaszolt: „Az vagyok, akinek már kezdettől mondom magamat.

26 Sok mindent mondhatnék rólatok, és elítélhetnélek titeket. De én csak azt mondom, amit attól hallottam, aki elküldött engem. És amit ő mond, az igaz!”

27 De azok nem értették meg, hogy az Atyáról beszélt.

28 Jézus így folytatta: „Amikor majd felemelitek az Emberfiát, akkor fogjátok megérteni, hogy én vagyok . Meg fogjátok érteni, hogy amit teszek, azt nem magamtól teszem, és csak azt mondom, amire az Atya tanított.

29 Mert engem ő küldött, és mindig velem van. Nem hagyott egyedül, mert én mindig azt teszem, amit ő szeret.”

30 Amikor ezt mondta, sokan hittek Jézusban.

Az igazság megszabadít

31 Azután Jézus azokhoz fordult, akik hittek benne: „Ha ragaszkodtok tanításomhoz, engedelmeskedtek a szavamnak, és annak megfelelően éltek, akkor valóban a tanítványaim vagytok.

32 Akkor majd megismeritek az igazságot, az igazság pedig megszabadít titeket.”

33 Ekkor a zsidó vezetők ezt mondták: „Mi Ábrahám utódai vagyunk, és soha nem voltunk szolgák! Miért mondod, hogy meg fogunk szabadulni?”

34 Jézus így válaszolt: „Igazán mondom nektek, ha valaki bűnt követ el, az szolgája a bűnnek.

35 De a szolga nem marad örökre a családban, csak a fiú!

36 Ezért ha a Fiú megszabadít titeket, akkor valóban szabadok lesztek! Tudom, hogy Ábrahám utódai vagytok,

37 mégis meg akartok ölni, mert nem fogadjátok el a tanításomat.

38 Én arról beszélek, amit Atyámtól tanultam, és ti is azt teszitek, amit atyátoktól tanultatok.”

39 Azok így feleltek: „A mi atyánk Ábrahám!” Jézus pedig így válaszolt: „Ha valóban Ábrahám gyermekei volnátok, akkor az ő példáját követnétek.

40 De ti meg akartok ölni engem, aki az igazságot mondom nektek, amit Istentől hallottam. Ábrahám nem tett ilyet.

41 Ti valóban azt teszitek, amit atyátok.”
Ők erre így válaszoltak: „Nem vagyunk mi törvénytelen gyermekek! Egy atyánk van, az Isten!”

42 Jézus így válaszolt nekik: „Ha Isten volna az atyátok, szeretnétek és elfogadnátok engem, mert én Istentől jöttem, az ő jelenlétéből. Nem magamtól jöttem, ő küldött el engem.

43 Miért nem értitek, amit mondok? Mert nem fogadjátok el tanításomat!

44 A ti atyátok a Gonosz! Ti pedig örömmel megteszitek, amit ő kíván. Ő kezdettől fogva gyilkos volt, és soha nem állt az igazság oldalán, mert nincs is benne semmi igazság. Amikor hazudik, akkor mutatja meg a valódi természetét: mert hazug, és a hazugságok forrása.

45 Ezzel ellentétben én az igazat mondom, de ti nem hisztek nekem.

46 Kicsoda vádolhatna engem bűnnel közületek? Ha pedig igazat mondok, miért nem hisztek nekem?

47 Aki Istentől származik, az elfogadja, amit Isten mond. Ti pedig azért nem fogadjátok el, mert nem Istentől származtok!”

Jézus és Ábrahám

48 A zsidó vezetők erre azt felelték: „Talán nincs igazunk, amikor azt mondjuk, hogy samáriai vagy, és gonosz szellem van benned?”

49 Jézus így válaszolt: „Nincs bennem gonosz szellem, hanem tisztelem Atyámat, ti pedig gyaláztok engem.

50 Én nem a magam dicsőségét keresem. Van valaki, aki törődik vele, és ő fog ebben ítélni.

51 Igazán mondom nektek: ha valaki engedelmeskedik tanításomnak, és a szerint él, az nem hal meg soha.”

52 Azok így válaszoltak: „Most már biztosan tudjuk, hogy gonosz szellem lakik benned! Hiszen Ábrahám meghalt, a próféták is meghaltak, te mégis azt mondod: »ha valaki engedelmeskedik tanításomnak, és aszerint él, az nem hal meg soha«.

53 Nagyobb vagy, mint atyánk Ábrahám? Ő meghalt, és a próféták is mind meghaltak. Hát mit gondolsz, ki vagy te?!”

54 Jézus erre így válaszolt: „Ha magamat dicsőíteném, akkor a dicsőségem nem érne semmit. Atyám az, aki engem megdicsőít. Őróla azt állítjátok, hogy ő az Istenetek.

55 Pedig soha nem ismertétek meg őt, én viszont ismerem. Ha azt mondanám, hogy nem ismerem, ugyanolyan hazug lennék, mint ti. De én ismerem őt, és engedelmeskedem annak, amit mond.

56 Atyátok, Ábrahám nagyon örült annak a reménynek, hogy meg fogja látni azt a napot, amikor majd eljövök. Látta is, és nagyon örült.”

57 Ekkor a zsidó vezetők azt mondták neki: „Micsoda?! Azt állítod, hogy láttad Ábrahámot? Ez lehetetlen, hiszen még ötven éves sem vagy!”

58 Jézus felelt: „Igazán mondom nektek: mielőtt Ábrahám megszületett, én vagyok .”

59 Ekkor köveket kaptak föl, hogy megdobálják Jézust, de ő eltűnt előlük, és a Templom területéről.

John 8

The Adulterous Woman

1 But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.2 Early in the morning He came again into the temple, and all the people were coming to Him; and He sat down and began to teach them.3 The scribes and the Pharisees *brought a woman caught in adultery, and having set her in the center of the court, 4 they *said to Him, "Teacher, this woman has been caught in adultery, in the very act.5 Now in the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women; what then do You say?"6 They were saying this, testing Him, so that they might have grounds for accusing Him. But Jesus stooped down and with His finger wrote on the ground.7 But when they persisted in asking Him, He straightened up, and said to them, "He who is without sin among you, let him be the first to throw a stone at her."8 Again He stooped down and wrote on the ground.9 When they heard it, they began to go out one by one, beginning with the older ones, and He was left alone, and the woman, where she was, in the center of the court. 10 Straightening up, Jesus said to her, "Woman, where are they? Did no one condemn you?"11 She said, "No one, Lord." And Jesus said, "I do not condemn you, either. Go. From now on sin no more."]

Jesus Is the Light of the World

12 Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, "I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life."13 So the Pharisees said to Him, "You are testifying about Yourself; Your testimony is not true."14 Jesus answered and said to them, "Even if I testify about Myself, My testimony is true, for I know where I came from and where I am going; but you do not know where I come from or where I am going.15 You judge according to the flesh; I am not judging anyone.16 But even if I do judge, My judgment is true; for I am not alone in it, but I and the Father who sent Me.17 Even in your law it has been written that the testimony of two men is true.18 I am He who testifies about Myself, and the Father who sent Me testifies about Me."19 So they were saying to Him, "Where is Your Father?" Jesus answered, "You know neither Me nor My Father; if you knew Me, you would know My Father also."20 These words He spoke in the treasury, as He taught in the temple; and no one seized Him, because His hour had not yet come.

21 Then He said again to them, "I go away, and you will seek Me, and will die in your sin; where I am going, you cannot come."22 So the Jews were saying, "Surely He will not kill Himself, will He, since He says, 'Where I am going, you cannot come'?"23 And He was saying to them, "You are from below, I am from above; you are of this world, I am not of this world.24 Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I am He, you will die in your sins."25 So they were saying to Him, "Who are You?" Jesus said to them, "What have I been saying to you from the beginning?26 I have many things to speak and to judge concerning you, but He who sent Me is true; and the things which I heard from Him, these I speak to the world."27 They did not realize that He had been speaking to them about the Father.28 So Jesus said, "When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and I do nothing on My own initiative, but I speak these things as the Father taught Me.29 And He who sent Me is with Me; He has not left Me alone, for I always do the things that are pleasing to Him."30 As He spoke these things, many came to believe in Him.

The Truth Will Make You Free

31 So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, "If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine;32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free."33 They answered Him, "We are Abraham's descendants and have never yet been enslaved to anyone; how is it that You say, 'You will become free'?"

34 Jesus answered them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is the slave of sin.35 The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son does remain forever.36 So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.37 I know that you are Abraham's descendants; yet you seek to kill Me, because My word has no place in you.38 I speak the things which I have seen with My Father; therefore you also do the things which you heard from your father."

39 They answered and said to Him, "Abraham is our father." Jesus *said to them, "If you are Abraham's children, do the deeds of Abraham.40 But as it is, you are seeking to kill Me, a man who has told you the truth, which I heard from God; this Abraham did not do.41 You are doing the deeds of your father." They said to Him, "We were not born of fornication; we have one Father: God."42 Jesus said to them, "If God were your Father, you would love Me, for I proceeded forth and have come from God, for I have not even come on My own initiative, but He sent Me.43 Why do you not understand what I am saying? It is because you cannot hear My word.44 You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies.45 But because I speak the truth, you do not believe Me.46 Which one of you convicts Me of sin? If I speak truth, why do you not believe Me?47 He who is of God hears the words of God; for this reason you do not hear them, because you are not of God."

48 The Jews answered and said to Him, "Do we not say rightly that You are a Samaritan and have a demon?"49 Jesus answered, "I do not have a demon; but I honor My Father, and you dishonor Me.50 But I do not seek My glory; there is One who seeks and judges.51 Truly, truly, I say to you, if anyone keeps My word he will never see death."52 The Jews said to Him, "Now we know that You have a demon. Abraham died, and the prophets also; and You say, 'If anyone keeps My word, he will never taste of death.'53 Surely You are not greater than our father Abraham, who died? The prophets died too; whom do You make Yourself out to be? "54 Jesus answered, "If I glorify Myself, My glory is nothing; it is My Father who glorifies Me, of whom you say, 'He is our God';55 and you have not come to know Him, but I know Him; and if I say that I do not know Him, I will be a liar like you, but I do know Him and keep His word.56 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day, and he saw it and was glad."57 So the Jews said to Him, "You are not yet fifty years old, and have You seen Abraham?"58 Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am."59 Therefore they picked up stones to throw at Him, but Jesus hid Himself and went out of the temple.
